Hi Kevin, I've been trying to post this answer for hours, but keep getting a bogus error message about "post flooding." I had tried two different Pr 15.2 projects with Sony .MXF and a Sony FS9 .MXF sources from different shooters. Just this morning, I updated Pr to 15.4, loaded a project with Canon .MXF, and that's when I got the Event errors and kernel panic, almost immediately. I was able to do captions on two 15.2 projects by importing an H264 / MP4 exported from Pr 14.x. The ability to Save an SRT from the Captions Tab was still broken (Save button grayed out), but I was able to make them with the old-school Export Movie / Captions function. So, you may be onto something associating the issue with certain footage types, namely .MXF. BTW, I know the drill with Pr, and I've done the troubleshooting routine: delete prefs, reinstall apps multiple times, reinstall OS, trash cache, previews, etc. Thanks for your interest. I get hundreds of insances of this Event in the Event tab whenever I try to edit in Pr 2021 15.4, and it was happening in 15.2. And, I've gotten several Kernel Panics when clicking on the Timeline, or clicking a Project item. Pr 2021 looks like garbage to me - useless, except for making captions. What's going on? I can work with Pr 2020 14.9 with hardly any issues.

I inherited a multicam project from a beginning editor. I already started editing without checking the Multi clips, which was a big mistake, because several of the audio and video tracks are slightly out of sync. There are five cameras, five speakers in a panel discussion, recorded double system. They synced the clips by having the panel moderator clap his hands after an hour long discussion. For some reason, they gave me THIRTY TWO audio tracks, half of which are silent. Anyway... after dragging a Multi Clip to the Timeline, I can see the audio tracks separated, and move them around individually, but the video is one multi-cam clip. How can I "step in" (Avid term) to the video Multi-cam clip and resync some of the video tracks? OR, do I just need to create a new Multi-Cam Multi and do it right, and start editing from scratch again?

I noticed the same thing. You can find that note character on Macs using the System Prefs > Keyboard > Show Emoji and symbols. Copy and paste. There's a key combo for Windows, too, and you can find it in a web search.

Issue is in the subject line. Refers to exporting from the new Text / Captions tab. I can export SRTs the old-fashioned way by using Export and adding captions in the Export dialog. I can speed this up by exporting captions and audio only, after muting audio (to reduce audio mixdown time). The export feature was working in the last build of Pr (15.0, I presume). Other than that, this new caption scheme is a big improvement on the 14.x and prior builds, IMO.

I was cutting my first project - a long one: 35 minutes - on Pr 15.0 (OSX), and noticed that all 256G of my RAM was being used. I haven't seen that in Pr for years, but apparently, having to purge RAM is back. I also see my CPU meter for my 24 cores pegging the display when doing routine playback with Canon MXF source footage. That's a change from 14.9 as well. My bet is these are bugs that no workaround, other than reverting to a previous build of Pr, can solve.

I'm a one-person shop. I've also dipped my toes into 15.0 and haven't even tried opening more than one project. Thank you for replying.

I want to use this new build because the H264 exports are way faster. Nice. BUT, there are two steps backward. If I have my PGM set to display time-codes, they disappear after I apply the Timecode effect to clips. I need to see both to ensure I have the right settings on the effect clip. This is a biggie: When I export a movie, my third party audio track effects are IGNORED. This is a deal-breaker. Back to Pr 2020 until these are fixed. I discovered both these bugs in the first hour of using Pr 2021. No telling how many other bugs it has. Anybody else? I didn't know about that Restore Open Sequences pref before. Good to know it's there, because it's super annoying for multiple sequences to open when I open an older project. Thanks for that. I'll give it a try. But, if that's the issue, it points to a bug in the app. Here's what didn't work: deleting prefs & media caches, reinstall of Pr. The hanging at the 75 to 80% behavior continues. I suspect that's about when the audio plug-ins are loaded. I use PSP Vintage Warmer 2 on my VO tracks almost exclusively. It requires an iLok dongle.

My progress bar stops at around 80% when I attempt to open a second project, and I've created a New Production, I attempt to add a Project to it. I can open any one project fine. The issue occurs when I try to open more than one, or import a Project into a Prouction (which is a feature I just auditioned because I have a project that I'm going to need to use several other projects as assets). I can open two projects if I open the larger one first, and the smaller one second, but I cannot do the inverse. I also just noticed that Pr is creating a new file in my Pr project folder, named, "project title.prlock". This has coincided with my attempted use of the Productions feature. This is new behavior in Pr starting around 14.5. This is not a RAM issue. I have 256 GB installed. Is anybody else getting this, or know how to workaround it? I surmise that whatever it is about project that Pr loads last is causing the hangs. Often, right after I use the Force Quit procedure, for less than a second, the progress bar completes before the app exits. OSX 10.15.7

You could take a look at this third-party product. I haven't used it yet. You can download a demo. Also look at their Warping Wheels product. https://picture-instruments.com/products/index.php?id=10&back=1 I've started a post here asking if there are any extensions or plug-ins for Pr that bring it to parity with Resolve's color capabilities, and I've done some research, and this looks the most promising. I'd love to hear some feedback from some Resolve experts who've tried these with Pr. I continue to mostly use Lumetri over some of the third-party color plugs I've purchased because the GPU accelleration. Red Giant claims Colorista is accellerated, but I'm not seeing it. In fact most of the third party effects I have in which the developers claim to be GPU accellerated still show the red needs rendering stripe in the Pr timeline.

I very often have to make changes to the movies I rendered in Ae and imported into Pr. What makes this process go faster is to go to the Render Queue in Ae, and dupe the render Item by Cmd-Shift-D (Mac), and then double-click it, which will open the Comp for the changes. What Cmd-Shift-D does is allows you to overwrite the previous movie file with the same name, so that after rendering, it appears automatically updated in Pr. Two things to keep in mind. Your CTI should not be over any part of the movie clip you are going to re-render, because that may produce an error. Another thing to avoid is switching back to Pr during the Ae render, or you will get the Media Offline message, and you'll have to relink the media again after the render is complete. If you want to keep working in Pr while Ae is rendering, then you might want to skip this method, and just use Pr's Replace Footage command to link to the newly rendered file.

I've seen a similar issue that was tracked down to the GPU. You could try turning the Project Settings > Renderer to Software Only (Exports will be slower), or reinstall your graphics card driver (if that's even possible), which may have become corrupted, or replace your GPU. Sadly, that was the only fix on the trash can MacPros that had artifacts on exports and playback because of a whole generation of new Macs that were sold with defective GPUs.

DL works best for me when the linked Ae Comps are very simple. If they have Motion Blur, or other blurs, my supermacho MacPro7,1 24-Core will not play them without frame skipping. Plus, the links get lost by Pr frequently, requiring me to Link Media. As R_Neal suggests, rendering Comps in Ae, and importing into Pr is the most efficient overall process. The command in Pr to make an Ae Comp out of clips is the most useful feature, IMO. But, then rendering in Ae and replacing the DL Comp in Pr with the rendered movie is the key to keep working more efficiently. It's a matter of rendering now or rendering later. So, I go with the process that's going to save the most time.

Hey experts: I have the FilmImpact transition suite, and they are excellent and a must have, IMO. I love that many of their transitions have easing in and out. I use their Impact Push a lot. It's FAR superior to Pr's native linear only push. I use Pr's native Wipe because it has a BORDER control, BUT it's linear only. What I'm asking is if anybody knows about a third party plug-in / effect or package for Pr that has a WIPE effect that has BOTH a BORDER control AND EASING. I have asked FilmImpact. net to add a border to their WipeImpact, and they replied and said they'd consider it, but so far, no dice. They have a blurry drop shadow type edge, but I must use a solid border for this particular client, because we've built that look into the branding. I've figured out a way to use their wipe effect, and animate a border over the top with a thin black solid and the ImpactTween effect (That's a great tool!), but it's kind of clunky.

I've searched and searched, but haven't found any color tools that have features not in Lumetri, outside of things like a skin tone overlay (useful), guided color correcting (as in RG Colorista IV, which is a bit of a kludge if you've got the basics covered). There's a wealth of "look" generating plugs, and that's not what I'm asking about. I want to know if there's a tool that puts the basic tools of color correction on par with Resolve, to do that work you do before you start adding looks. I've read many forums, and the consensus is that Resolve simply has better tools than Premiere. If that's so, and Premiere is extensible with third party plug-ins and extensions, it should be feasable to make Pr into a competitive product, color-correction-wise, right? So, is there anything out there that I've missed? Is there a developer willing to take on this challenge, and make one? I think the Four Way Color tool in Magic Bullet Looks would be great to have as a stand-alone plug-in. Looks is pretty cool, but it's very limited for doing shot to shot color correction, and wasn't built for that. You can't do shot comparisons or send the video to a second display without an external video card. Hi Neil, I just found this post and the link to your site and tutorials. Yours are the best tutorials I've yet found for the Lumetri panel, and have given me some excellent insight and new tricks to try. I'd never have thought to start in the Creative section and ignoring the Temp and Tint sliders in favor of the Shadow and Hightlight Tint wheels to white balance, but I just tried it on a few clips and I love the results. Thanks for posting the tutorials and sharing your knowledge.

I still haven't seen anybody from Adobe piping up here and acknowledging whether the company is working on better compatibility with Metal, which is inextricably tied to their and third party developer's movement towards more GPU processing. One can infer superiority as being the antonym to "deprecate." That's Apple's and Adobe's language, not ours. Features and apps are only "deprecated" after a reputed superior replacement technology is introduced, or a product has reached End of Life.

If that's the case, then Apple must believe that Metal is superior. And, if that's the case, why has Adobe apparently dropped the ball on optimizing what's claimed by Apple to be a superior technology, if it's also true that Adobe has dropped the ball. Frankly, with the new MacPro I have, rendering isn't much of an issue on my mostly short projects, and other than the yellow/red color in the timeline indicating real-time vs. needs rendering, I can't report a drastic difference between the two renderers. I usually keep my Projects in Open CL mode to not have to look at the red timeline stripes. But, my argument remains that, if Metal is a superior technology, and claimed by Adobe to be "Recommended," the app should reflect a superiority, which it doesn't. A related issue I've noticed is that many of the Boris Continuum Complete and Red Giant effects and the FilmImpact transitions have been marketed as being GPU accellerated, yet none of their products show anything other than red in the timeline no matter which renderer is selected. I don't know whether this is another Adobe issue, or one by the third-party developers.

I'm wondering why in the last few announcements to new features in Premiere that there's been no mention of improvments to the Mercury (Recommended) renderer. On 14.3.0, I'm still getting a red bar on my timeline with some third party effects that show the yellow bar with the OpenCL (Deprecated). And, I get far better real-time before rendering with the OpenCL renderer selected in my Project Settings. My inquiries in other forums have produced opinions that optimizing Premiere for the OSX Metal renderer is an Adobe, not an Apple issue. Is Adobe even working on this? Seems like, if past is prologue, Adobe is subject to drop OpenCL entirely before Metal is the superior renderer. Can any of you Adobe insiders comment on this? Since I'm kind of winging here, I would like to compliment the engineering team on making Premiere more stable. I hardly get crashes any more. That's a huge improvment over, say, two years ago.

The mask tracker is working properly and as expected again on a new Project. So, I surmise that project or sequence corruption was the cause of the erratic mask traking behavior.

I got an auto-email from Adobe asking me to mark the correct answer. There isn't one. This is no fault of the User Community. Despite all my reinstallations, the mask tracker continues to malfunction on my set-up. I may have to delete everything Adobe related on my system and do a clean install from scratch. Unlike some people, I continue to have work during this pandemic, and will have to wait until I run out of work to do.

I couldn't agree more. Given that nearly EVERY Pr x.0.0 release has had crippling bugs, it's inexcusable not to have a downgrading option built into the app. This is hubris from Adobe. I doubly agree with your sentiment "They really need to put a pause on adding shiny new crap and instead make these applications work together like a proper ecosystem." Dynamic Link shows such promise, but even the latest builds of Pr and Ae still lose the links. I'm constantly having to Relink Ae Comps in Pr that get lost when I reopen a Pr project with Linked Comps, or just save my Project in Ae, and switch back to Pr. And half the time I reopen an a Pr Project with Links, if the Links are still working, they've become unrendered.

I reinstalled 14.0.4, and now when I tracked a mask backwards with the CTI in the middle of the clip, the progress bar displayed progress, a bunch of keyframes were generated, but the mask didn't move at all. Then I tracked forward from the same point, the progess bar displayed, then NO keyframes were generated. However, one thing did change: when I moved the CTI to the end of the clip and moved the mask, it generated a keyframe as it should, and the mask interpolated from my first keyframe to the new one, as it should. So, some of my tracking problems are solved, but not all. Reinstalled again, after deleting my 14.0 User folder. Now it will track in reverse, but when tracking forward, the progress bar sticks around 95% just hangs. After I Cancel, the Mask (x) and Mask Path parameters are grayed out. I can only delete the mask or effect at that point.
