thanks for the reply guys. I definitely haven't always had to do this so something isn't right.. The audio files are 48000Hz and so is the timeline.. I'm not sure how to tell if either are 16bit. I have a feeling I set my DR-10 recorder to 24bit so could it be that that is 24bit and the timeline is 16bit?

I've noticed that if I cut a sound file or put 2 sound files next to eachother (or to video files with sound for that matter) when playing back I hear a small click sound. I never used to worry about it as when I exported it, it was not there, however I've recently noticed that the exported file still has it. The only solution is putting a tiny crossfade between ALL audio files. This doesnt seem right?

thanks for taking the time to reply Neil. Sadly I do only use alphanumeric titles and I use 1920 25p (although its exported as 25i through the bluray preset) so I don't think either of those were causing the issue. Since switching to TMPGEnc Plugin I have been pretty successful other than a recent hiccup which sorted itself with a few restarts (this always scares the hell out of me..)

sorry to come back to this but i dont know where to post. TMPGEnc export for bluray discs has, after months of working perfectly, totally screwed up today and is now (despite showing a green tick in adobe media encoder) not exporting the full timeline, but instead only a second or two of it. I cant even work out how to open the TMPGEnc settings to see whether its deactivated itself or something like that. Can anyone advise or help? also, whilst I'm here, is it normal that I have to click "renew licence" almost weekly on the TMPGENC screen when starting up premiere?

Averdahl I can't thank you enough you really are teaching me a whole lot of stuff that, quite frankly, I should have known years ago! Ok so I've just imported 3 files. The TMPGEnc created file, a file exported using the method before I had to do this whole intermediate high quality file export from CC2017 and a file created after that point. The TMPGEnc is the only one that says "Don't Transcode". The other two both say "Untranscoded" so obviously there in lies the problem. Now I need to get to the bottom of what I'm doing wrong in my export settings for BluRay that's causing Encore to need to Transcode. You can see my export settings above. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

ah.. so i've had a bit of a breakthrough I tried TMPGEnc and initially thought the quality was still terrible, then I realised I had the option to change to upper fields first to progressive. When i change this the interlaced flickering is obviously all gone (I didn't realise thats what was causing it) Anybody know why I don't seem to have the option to export progressive when using a preset under the MPEG-BluRay or H264-BluRay headings?

yeah I'm a pal guy too but I have never even clicked the multiplexer tab before.. for dfownscaling the footage I just go to effects controls and type 50 in the scale box (to bring 4k footage down to 1080p). Would you say this is incorrect? I even tried exporting the drone shot on its own as a 1080p file and re-importing it into the 1080p timeline so no downscaling was required but the aliasing and moire when burned to the bluray was even worse

ok so not remotely linked to the initial post but I'd just like to come back here to ask a question. Since your recommendation of using mpeg2 dvd export from the original high quality (now a DNX file) I've noticed the quality of my DVD footage has MASSIVELY improved so thank you for that. My issue now is that my bluray footage is awful! It's fine, except for example 4k drone shots downscaled to 1080p timeline. They look fine on the 1080p USB file and also (now, thanks to you) on the DVD, but the bluray looks massively aliasy. Is that even a word? It flickers and looks awful anyway. Too much detail.. I use the h264 BluRay export. Am I doing this wrong?!

haha yeah i get that. I thought you meant you'd been using the trial period the whole time and didnt have to buy it. To be honest I begrudge paying for something that premiere should be able to do right out of the box (and used to do fine with no issues in my experience!) With every upgrade of premiere comes a load more headaches..

what are the trial limitations of the TMPGenc plugin? The only encoding related issues other than this I have is that DVD authoring seems very low quality when I do it in encore. I had a trial of mediazilla and their DVD's looked SO much better when their own encoding methods were used instead.

ok thanks. I just did a test export and it worked well quality wise. The only issue is that the 5.1 audio tracks all export as individual tracks instead of one file for audio so it just means i'll need to create a template project with the different audio tracks mapped to the right speakers. however, if this gets me better quality in the finished product then it's certainly worth it. I'll do some tests with the fade ins and see if this helps it... thank you

thats mid way through a fade in, you can see the pixelation around the image. The problem is that it flickers and comes and goes as it fades in making it really distracting and noticeable and more like a glitch than just pixelation

the high res h264 is because of a bug that was recently discovered meaning that if you export a h-264 bluray file from cc 2018 and try to author a bluray with encore, you get an error. The only way to fix this is to export an intermediate file from 2018 and then import and re-export in 2017. You're right though I should be using the highest quality export setting I can, but I only ever use h264 so I just went for that with maxed out bitrate settings. I'll try with a CineForm file but it wont fix this issue. I'll try to get a screenshot and post it

I've noticed that on every keyframe opacity fade in I have a glitch at the start. Due to a different premiere bug related to encore authoring, my workflow is this: Export high quality h.264 import that into premiere cc 2017 export that as lower bitrate h264 BOTH the high quality h264 file exported in cc 2018 and the lower bitrate version exported in cc 2017 have the same pixelation/glitch at the start and also at any point during where I fade in. has anyone tried to import an m4v created using the h264-bluray preset back into premiere cc 2018? I have tried using the one I created in cc2018 and cc2017 and both of them crash premiere. Is this just my system?

thank you Ann. I did too. I suggest others do if they have the time. So there is no option for 5.1 audio with the mov-cineform export so I am now doing this exporting a 5.1 h264 mp4 file at 25mbps (the same rate that I set my encore bluray project to) also exporting a 5.1 h264 at 14mbps for my USB delivery Then importing the 25mbps mp4 into premiere cc 2017 and exporting it using my h264-bluray preset. It's a real shame we have to take additional lengthy steps and I really hope adobe fix this asap.

problem I have is that the cc2018 project wont open in cc2017 so it involves exporting, then importing in 2017 and exporting again. Extra work that we shouldn't be doing. Does anyone know if Adobe are aware of this and addressing it? Seems like a pretty major issue to me but I know they are absolutely dire at doing anything about bugs based on my past experience.

this is madness. Ive never had an issue cause me so much of a headache and lose me so much time. I just exported 4 files from PP2017 using all of the same settings. 3 import into premiere and one says "the software that used to decode the media is not available on this system" It imports the sound for that file but not the video. What the hell?!

i'm installing 2017 now. The issue is I dont think my projects will open will they? If made in CC 2018. I just installed Encore CS6 and got the exact same error. If this is an adobe bug I am seriously going to lose my &hit with them. Can you link me to where people posted about these issues?

So, where do I start. The error I get in all instances (Unless I import an mpeg instead of h264 bluray file, in which case I get a different error about the video properties not being the same as the timeline) is this:
Blu-ray Error; "device not ready", Code; "3" "File can not open. and then the file path and it points to \AuthorScriptHDMVSessions\Filename.m4v.21_35_15 etc etc (more numbers) UTC+01_00DST.ves)-
I have spent no less than 12 hours trying to solve this today.
It started occuring since upgrading premiere CC to the latest version (12.2). I had various issues with this before I'd even noticed the encore issue so I rolled it back to 12.1.
Now the files from my h,264 bluray preset (5.1 sound using surcode, level 4.1, 21mbps bitrate, 1080p25) throw up this error.
I have tried:
- restarting
-reinstalling encore
- exporting new files with varying different paramaters changed. For example I exported a small section of a timeline in my normal preset and it errored. I changed to level 4.1 to 4.0 and exported it. it worked! I then exported all of the files required for my bluray in that same style level 4.0 set, however it still errored.
All i can get to work is to export a stereo mp4 file but I'd like it in 5.1
In fact, I've forgotten everything I've tried so i can't be of much help but if you can think of it, chances are I've tried it.
I'm now installing Encore CS6 (I was on CS5) to see if that works. If it does, great, but there is SOMETHING in the premiere 12.2 update that causes encore HELL. Do not update if you use Encore cs5.
