Aha! OK thanks for that Steve. I just tried changing the settings to the pic below. But still, for some reason, it is lowering the levels of audio much higher than -40 dB. I undid and then redid and I could see the waveform of a word that is -9 dB being reduced by like half! I don't know what parameter is causing that. The way I thought I had it set, it should only apply reduction to stuff below -40 dB. Again, I must be missing something. Thoughts?

Wow. That's amazing that such a simple action is so hard to do. I appreciate you taking a crack at it. One thing that I must also be missing is how to change the parameters in the presets of Dynamics Processor. It seems the only way I can change things like threshold is to drag the dots and lines on the graph. I can't seem to find these as available settings to change just by typing them. There are some settings on the Settings tab. But I can't seem to find the MAIN ones - like, as I mentioned, threshold. Am I just overlooking something there? In the old AA, I could just change all that stuff in the little boxes by typing in the targets I wanted. If it were easier to change those settings I could probably make the noise gate work in Dynamics Process.

How can I completely silence the sections between vocal phrases? I find myself doing this manually, which as you can imagine, takes forever. And I did try the noise gate(s) in the Dynamics Processing section. But that was much too complicated, and it seemed to affect all audio (I saw even the vocal parts come down in volume when I applied one of the presets). All I would like to do is select any area of the recording that is less than, say, -30 or -40 dB, and completely silence it, leaving the actual vocals alone. This sounds like a traditional gate. But I'm having trouble finding anything that simple in AA just now. I must be missing something. Thanks! Ken

I just installed a 3rd-party VST effect bundle - Accusonus ERA. I am using these tools quite a lot, but in order to access them, I have to go through multiple layers of directories in the Effect menu. For example, I open the Effect dropdown. Then I hover over "VST," they I hover over "Restoration," then I hover over "Accusonus," then I hover over the actual effect I want to open it. That's pretty darned involved and takes up precious time. Is there a way I can set up a shortcut to go straight into the Accusonus folder and see all those tools? Or maybe to actually just open the ERA Noise Remover, for example. I don't want to APPLY the effect via a shortcut (as each file will often need different treatment). So "Recording" a FAvorite wound't work. But I'd love to be able to just directly open either the main Accusonus folder to see the tools, and then click on one, or to have a different shortcut for each of the 6 ERA tools. Is this do-able? Thanks Steve, I tried dragging the timescale underneath, which worked great in 3.0, but does nothing in CC. Here is a video of me trying - 2018-12-20_1601 assuming I'm doing the right thing. Ctrl + < or > does work. Thanks for that! I wish I had more control over how fast I could move left or right. But I guess this will do. Is it me? Or did things get much more difficult from 3.0 to CC?

How can I advance through audio slowly when I am very zoomed in? I need to find transient noises like mouth clicks that are only milliseconds long, but when I am that zoomed in, I can't figure out how to move my view left and right. The little handle in the timeline at the top works fine when I am NOT zoomed in, because it is large enough to grab with my mouse. But when I am that zoomed in, the handle in the timeline becomes so small that I cannot make fine movements. In Audition 3.0, I could just drag the bottom of the main audio edit screen. So this is another growing pain from moving to CC. Maybe this picture will make it more clear Thoughts? Thanks! Ken

Thanks. I see the Keyboard Shortcuts window. But I still can't figure out how to add a shortcut to "Graphic Equalizer (30 bands)." Can you point me in the right direction? I mean, I have found the command. And I see the "modifiers" window right next to it all under the keyboard layout for (Custom). But I can't figure out what to do from here.

How can I add just the opening of an effect window to Favorites? For example, I just want to open the Noise Reduction effect with one click. Then I will do the actions of capturing the noise print and picking the level on NR, etc. from there. So far, I've only seen how to "record" a favorite, which seems only to apply a very specific action of applying an effect without letting me choose settings, etc. If I've misread this, please set me straight. Thanks!

After applying the default Noise Reduction, the noise is still very audible at the tail end of every phrase (spoken word). I'm not sure why the noise isn't being eliminated at those points. How can I get the Noise Reduction process to eliminate all noise, even the noise at the end of a phrase? Thanks!

Thanks Jeff. I don't think this was it. It is MUCH simpler than all the seemingly (to me, anyway) complex stuff need for a displacement map. The tutorial I saw was pretty straightforward. I just don't remember the name/terminology. When I find it, I'll reply with the info.

I don't know the right terminology for this, which is probably why my searches have failed. I need to take a rectangular 2D image, and map it onto an image like a box or flag or some other shape that appears to turn corners, etc. I would use the term "3D," but that seems to mean something very specific these days and usually leads to the wrong advice. I have often wanted to take a 2D picture and place it onto something that technically is also a 2D image, but appears to be 3D (does that make sense?), like a wrinkled up piece of paper, landscape, car, box, mountainside, etc. This particular project is to put a book cover onto a 3D mockup of a magazine that is tilted and a bit curled. I'm using the latest CC version of Photoshop and was actually prompted for a tutorial for doing EXACTLY this a couple of weeks ago. But I didn't have time and thought I could just look it up later. Sigh. Now is "later," and I can't find it now. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Just to be extra sure, I double-checked Reaper. Then I opened RX7 and changed it to ASIO (it's new and was not using ASIO). It also is pristine playback with no pops and crackles. This only just started happening with Audition about a month ago. I'm starting to suspect some sort of problem with Windows 10 and Adobe Audition. Should I submit a ticket direct to Adobe, do you think? Thanks!

I contacted Focurite and they asked if this crackling was happening in any other program. And you know what? It isn't. It's working fine in Reaper - no issues there. So they are saying the problem is almost certainly with Adobe Audition, which kinda makes sense if I'm not having these issues with Reaper doesn't it? But still, at this point I'm running a DPC latency test at their request to rule that out as a potential cause. I'll update if/when I have any answers.

I just updated my ASIO driver for my Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 (1st Gen). Not 100% sure that's the cause of this problem, but suddenly I'm getting intermittent crackling when trying to edit audio. It isn't in the actual recording. I'll listen to a phrase and hear crackling. Then listen the that same phrase again and no crackling can be heard. It's like it's something in the playback that isn't matching up. Any idea what could be causing this? Thanks! BTW - this is happening in both the CC version of Audition and my old standalone 3.0 version.

Steve, if this were for me, yeah. Obviously I already have RX. But this is for a student. He doesn't have AA or RX :-P. HOWEVER... I discovered a way to do this in Reaper using a stock plugin - the EQ! Someone on the Reaper forum, in an unrelated thread of mine, offered correction of asymmetrical voice recordings as a way to help get a more "in yer face" effect. He said phase rotation is essentially an all pass filter, which can sort of randomize the phase issues. So I chose a single band in the EQ (which is a parametric EQ), and selected "All pass" as the band type. Left the single target frequency at 1KHz and the Gain adjustment at 0 dB and bingo! It had the same effect as the RX tool! Now I need to see if I can do that in Audition, just for my own edification.

Just wanted to let you know I tried PhaseNudge and watched the video on the AirWindows site. Interesting but it does not do what I am looking to do. The phase rotation in RX seems to do just what I need and I don't know exactly why PhaseNudge doesn't do the same thing. But the inner workings of both effects are a bit beyond me :-).

Thanks Steve. That does make sense from a theoretical point of view. But I've not seen it to quite this degree before. Like you say, though, it isn't a problem from an audio quality standpoint. The only real issue is like you said, it limits how much headroom you have to play with for normalizing, say. And also as you said, that can always be dealt with by a little dynamics adjustment. But I recently bit the bullet and purchased iZotope RX 6 and used the Phase tool to "rotate the signal phase." Their preset of "adaptive phase rotation" makes the audio symmetrical with no audible artifacts. That leaves a more balanced amount of space on BOTH sides to use for level increases if desired. I wondered if Audition had a similar tool to RX's phase rotation tool? BTW, just for context, this is not my vocal. I help VO folks with home recording and of all the files I've worked with, I've not seen one this off-center to date. Thanks!
