Handling of missing links HAS changed, and in my opinion for the worse, but at the request of users, so that missing links no longer open the Links panel automatically or ask you to update on opening as they used to, though you should still receive a warning that the links are missing UNLESS YOU HAVE TURNED IT OFF IN YOUR PREFERENCES. It's on by default and you will find the option under the file handling section. The rationale is that many workflows do not require that links be intact to accomplish the current editing, and longer documents with hundreds of missing links used to take many minutes to open while ID searched, essentially costing those users lots of money. IF you have stored the links in the same directory as the .indd file, and IF you have moved the entire directory and IF you have enabled finding missing links when opening files, InDesign will find and update the locations for the links when the file is opened. If ID is unable to locate a link, because it is not in the current directory or a subfolder, you will see a warning message (in the past you would have had the option to browse for the missing files), and you must open the links panel if you wish to fix them manually. In my opinion this is a very acceptable situation, and a great benefit to all types of workflows. I need to know links are modified or missing, so I've left that enabled. Those who don't need to know are no longer bothered or delayed. I suggest you pay a visit to the preferences and make sure that missing/modified checks are enabled, and if you are still having problems then your links aren't stored in the same directory, and that has always been an issue in ID when things get moved. ... In Acrobat, File > Document Properties > Initial View tab. Set the view to two-up facing pages and set whatever magnification you want them to have when the file opens, then save. Users can change this on their end after they open the file, but it will open however you set it. You didn't mention you originally that you want them to print the spreads on their end. That's a problem, since Acrobat doesn't have that option. For the time being, if you need them to have printable spreads you need to get things into a single document. One way to do this is to export the book to PDF, then open a new ID document and use the script to place the PDF into multiple pages, then export that as spreads. For online publication you generally don't try to figure out how the user will print the booklet, if at all. Simply export a regular consecutive pages PDF. If they want to print it, they'll probably just print 8 pages and forget about folding and stapling. If you insist on giving them a printer's spreads version (and by the way, the "spreads" checkbox in the print and export dialogs is NOT a way to make printer's spreads -- it's a way to put your reader's spreads on a single sheet for proofing or viewing as it would appear after binding), use Print Booklet as before, but instead of choosing your printer, print to PDF. You can then post the PDF and users can print the spreads and fold, but they'll have a heck of a time working with your information unless they do that since page 8 will be next to page 1, page 2 will be next to page 7 and page 6 will be next to page 3 on the same sheet of paper. Your page size should be the same as a single page in the booklet, i.e. on half or the size of the folded sheet, and the page count should be the total number of pages, in this case 8. You'll set them up as portrait orientation, facing pages, and print on a landscape orientation sheet twice the size, with a total of 4 pages per sheet -- two on each side. Print Booklet does the arranging of the pages on the larger sheet for you. If I have the relationship right (I'm in the US), that means you make an 8 page A5 book and print onto two A4 sheets. The out of memory message could be indicative of a virus or spyware, so you should check. If that isn't it, perhaps uninstall and reinstall again. The default view setting is typical display, unless you change it, but it also allows object level display settings, so that could be the source of your gray boxes. CS4 files cannot be opened direct in CS3, and there will be no update to allow that. The closest you can come is to export the file from CS4 as .inx (interchange format) and open that in CS3 (which must be patched to the latest version). victor, since you are seeing the default [Paper], [Black] and [Registration] swatches, it's possible that the others were deleted with nothing open, making that the new default state. (You can't delete the "special" default swatches.) Replacing your preferences should fix that, or if you have an existing document that still has the swatches in it, you can load them from the swatches panel flyout menu with nothing open and they should be restored.
