The error message said the files in question were "Missing". Did you delete them separately in the operating system? When file are missing from a Lightroom Classic folder, just right click on the folder and choose "Synchronize Folder". Lightroom Classic will then remove all references to the missing files.

That's not something you have to worry about as long as you get in the habit of turning the camera off before inserting or removing a memory card. The cards and the slots they are used in are designed for thousands of insertions. In the 14 years I have been doing digital photography, I have never had a corrupted card due to putting it in and out of the camera. If your time is important to you, taking the card out of the camera and using a card reader to transfer photos is far faster than transferring directly from the camera.

Then, I suggest you do an uninstall and reinstall of LrC. You do that through the Creative Cloud App. Uninstall, restart your computer and then reinstall. The other thing to try is to reset the LrC preferences. They do not get reset during a re-install, you have to do that manually.

Did you try Jao vdl's suggestion to create a new catalog and start from scratch with that group of photos? You can do that by holding the Option key while starting Lightroom Classic. On the screen that pops up, at the bottom, you have the choice of starting a new catalog.

Have you tried just closing and restarting Lightroom Classic when it gets slow? A couple of things to check: Any other apps running? Try using your computer with only Lightroom Classic running. In my case, I have similar specs, even with chrome and Photoshop running, I see no noticible slowdown. Is your anti virus set to ignore Lightroom Classice file access?

In "Preferences" -> General Tab, do you have "Show import dialog when memory card detected" checked? Are you connecting a memory card or other device while in the Develop mode? If one is connected, check to see if the connection is somehow intermittent.

What is the exact version of your operating system? Windows or Mac? It looks like your Lightroom Classic installation is defective or missing components. Perhaps damaged by a disk flaw. Reinstall as recommended. Use the Creative Cloud app to uninstall the existing app then, restart the computer and reinstall.

Were all the missing folders/images from the very most recent shoots? What you describe is the classic symptom of opening an older catalog. Is that a possiblilty?

There should be no reason to make Lightroom Classic aware of your backup drive. As you are seeing, that makes for a confusing situation. I would not even connect it when Lightroom Classic is running. Connect it when you intend to backup your recent files from the "Archive" drive to it. It's an excellent idea to maintain the exact same folder/file structure on the backup as the Archive where the originals are located. In case of failure of the Archive drive, you can switch to the backup drive quickly and easily.

Ref: Corrupt Catalog... A sure sign of a corrupt catalog is that LrC will not start. Good catalog backup procedures and optimizing help prevent issues like a corrupt catalog. However, the only time in 18 years of using Lr/LrC was this year when my new home built PC had defective ram that corrupted the catalog. Since I optimize and backup the catalog on each LrC exit, I was back in business when the replacement ram arrived overnight from the Amazon warehouse that is a mile away from our home. 🙂

Not true. My LrC catalog references 180,000 images. Most of those are high resolution 45mp images that are almost 7TB on two different hard drives and LrC runs just fine. It's really preferable to have the LrC catalog located on the fastest drive (preferably a SSD) in your computer.

What type of drive is the Lacie Big Dock? Is that a new catalog location for you? What is the size and space available on that drive? And, What is the connection interface? The initial slow loading/startup of Lightroom Classic make me think the speed of that drive and the connection is slow.

Do you think that the "50" setting is an adjusted ISO? That's not what the 50 means. It's a percentage of the range of the Denoise effect. Adjust it to your desired result/look.

Try resetting the Lightroom Classic preferences. That often works when Lightroom Classic starts doing unusual things. The preferences do not get reset with an uninstall and reinstall.

In the main screen, very far bottom, right hand corner, the small Camera icon. Does that work for you? I like to shoot in DNG in the Lightroom mobile app. Those get sent to my Lightroom Classic app where I can work on them the way I like.
