Just checked this on my Win 10 box with 3 monitors - and I see the same issue. I can get preview on one monitor, but not the other. The check mark in the preferences reverts to 'the other monitor' when I try. However - I am running three GPU's with 2 monitors connected to one, and the other monitor connected to another... So maybe I shouldn't be surprised...

Switch 3D on for your shape layer (set composition to Cinema 4D mode in the advanced tab of the composition settings). Extrude your shape into 3D, add light(s) and camera as required. Select your 3D, lights and camera layers and go to Layer menu > Precompose. You'll now have a (2D) comp-layer in your main comp which you will be able to set to screen mode.

If I'm understanding what you're wanting to do... In Comp 1 set the Saber / Black solid to normal blending mode. In the Saber effect, twirl down Render Settings and set Composite Settings to Transparent. In your comp 2 - leave the comp layer set to normal.

I think this is happening because the lower layer is time reversed and you're using opacity. Rather than time reversing the entire layer, could you select the relevant keyframes of your animation and : Keyframe assistant > Time reverse keyframes ?

You have some crazy settings in your Character palette. Look in the top right corner of both the Character and Paragraph palettes - in each there is the panel menu - three horizontal lines. At the bottom of those menus is an an option to 'Reset Character' and 'Reset Paragraph' respectively. Select those Does that fix it?

Some effects - and this is one, are constrained by the size of the layer on which they are applied. There are two easy solutions: 1. Search for and apply the 'Grow Bounds' effect and apply that above Scatterize - setting the 'pixels' value to be at least the width of your comp. or: 2. Remove the Scatterize effect from your layer temporarily by cutting it to the clipboard (Ctrl / Cmd X). Precompose the layer : Layer > Precompose, and select the 'Move all attributes' option. Paste the Scatterize effect back onto your new 'Comp layer'.

Create layers as follows and arrange in the layer order as shown: 1. A duplicate of the layer 2 square with a stroke but no fill 2. A square shape (shape layer with fill only ) to act as a track matte 3. A duplicate copy of your text - but in solid colour. 4. Your text in outline. Make an alpha track matte between layers 2 and 3. Make layer 1 a child of layer 2. Animate layer 2 to move your square around the text as required.

Open up the layer, then mask subsection in the timeline. Check that the menu to the right of the mask says 'Add' and that the inverted ckeckbox is not checked.

Create a black solid the size of your composition. Layer > New > Solid. Drag it underneath your video layer. Select your video layer. Using either one of the shape tools - rectangle, ellipse etc - or the pen tool, draw a closed shape around your spinning object. This will mask it out. Twirl down the timeline for your video layer. Find the masks section. Twirl that open to find "mask 1". Adjust the mask feather value to give a soft edge to your mask.

Could you use the point tracker to track the elements in your reference video layer. Apply that track to a null object - and then parent the puppet pin to that null as suggested by Szalam.

Un-tick "Show Animated Properties" - the second entry in your second screenshot. With this on, all animated properties for that layer will show in the graph editor, whether or not the keyframes are selected.

Looking at your example: look in the top left an consider the word "DEGREE". Essentially it's flowing around two sides of a cube. Decide on the size of the cube sides - say 720px x 720px. Create a new comp which is twice the width of this: eg 720px high x 1440px wide. Animate your text moving through this comp from left to right. Precompose this comp - make it 3D Duplicate it. Name the two precomposed comps 'front' and 'side'. Now mask the 'front' comp to just show the left hand side (720px x 720px), and mask the 'side' comp to just show the right hand side (720px x 720px). Arrange your two comps to form the two sides of a box in 3D space. Job done for that text.

Yes - I understand where you're coming from : ) That is the 'parent and link' pickwhip, and yes you can extract the line cap / join data - but you can't do anythng with it in terms of expressions as the propety isn't keyframable.

No, I don't believe it is, but as an alternative you could go into preferences > appearance and set the brightness value to something different. Yes that does affect the entire interface, but it also affects the brightness of the canvas, so that might help - at least on a temporary basis.

As Angie says - it's simply a limitation of the CS6 version, you can't do this with multiple layers selected. One other thing to consider: Why do you want to convert these to shape layers? Are you planning on extruding them into 3d? If so, be aware that CS6 only has "Ray Traced 3D" as an extrusion option - this is both very slow and no longer supported with recent graphics cards. If so you might want to try out the "Ray Traced 3D" with some after effects text - to see if it works acceptably for you on your machine. If you're not extruding - could you do your planned animation simply with the layers as Ai layers?

I have no problem making the motion, but when I hit playback JPEG2 is never visible, even though there it is, sitting on the timeline. It's just black in the composition panel. Check the opacity property of the 'underneath layer'.

The code does work - it's from Mr. Dan Ebberts : ) No need to concern yourself with nulls, parenting and rotation in this case - simply create the layer you want to be in orbit, Alt click on the stopwatch for position and paste in that code in the box to the right (overwrite the code that is in there by default). Change the number on the first line to adjust the orbit frequency, and change w and h in a 1 to 0.75 ratio to get your required eccentricity.

Try and isolate the group that contains the part of the outline with a double stroke by switch the visibility eyeballs on and off. The likelyhood is that group has strokes in it - delete those, or switch their visibility off.
