There shouldn't be any fundamental problem with that. I think you just need to adjust the glow 'threshold (lower threshold to include more colour range), radius and intensity. One extra tip with Glow: If you set your project to 32 bit: File menu > Project settings > Color > Depth, or Alt click on the '8 bpc' at the bottom of the project panel to cycle through 8 / 16 / 32 bpc - you'll get a much stronger Glow effect.

Find the preview panel - and drag the lower edge downward to see all the options. Check the frame rate of the preview matches the frame rate of your comp - if not set it to 'Auto' to match. Having that set incorrectly would cause a fast, or slow, preview.

Rather than trying to change the colour of the solid itself, apply a 'fill' effect to the solid and change the colour of that. I think your expression above will work if you remove the 255* on the last line and apply it to the fill effect > colour property. Eg: samplePoint = thisComp.layer("target layer").effect("Point Control")("Point"); sampleRadius = [100,100]; averageColor = thisComp.layer("target layer").sampleImage(samplePoint, sampleRadius); Colours are measured on a normalised 0-1 scale in expressions so no need for the 255 multiplier.

I would second Roei's suggestions. It's difficult to see the quality of your video and the amount of motion blur etc, but you might find that tracking a smaller area that is more stable - say the forehead, perhaps including the eyebrows and the edge of the hairline - might give you a better result. Less may be more.

I can see that your 'white line' layer is a child of (parented to) Null 1. Is Null 1 is non-uniformly scaled by any chance? That will distort your pasted path. A Parent object passes Position, Scale and Rotation values to its children. See if it works with that null at 100% scale on both x and y axis.

OP: You may also want to check... Preferences > Previews > "Mute audio when preview is not realtime" If this is on, your audio won't play if AE is building a preview (ie 'building the green line') and therefore likely playing less than full frame rate. When the preview is stored to RAM and playing back at full speed the audio will play. That maybe why it seems to be playing sometimes, but not others. This is a helpful feature - but it can trip you up if you don't understand how the AE previewing system works.

I'm not a Newton user myself - so I'm not sure if this is possible in Newton, others will have to advise on that. However, I think you might be able to get close to this using the native 'foam' effect with a flow map. That effect does take some setup, so you'd certainly need to read the help info: Using simulation effects in After Effects

A work around solution - that might be quicker than animating each individual letter: Set up your type in it's two kerned states in Illustrator. Create outlines, blend them, expand the blend and import the result as an image sequence into After Effects. There are a few steps involved in this, but it's pretty quick once you understand the method. We'd need to see more detail to be sure - hit UU on the keyboard and screenshot as much of the timeline vertically as you can for the relevant layers. But here's a guess: Remove your transition effect. Precompose your layer. Reapply your transition effect on the new 'comp layer'. Does that help? At this stage my guess is that this is an issue with the footage - that the file metadata is somehow corrupted or incorrect in someway. It might be worth a final try importing them into something else. Have you tried them in Premiere Pro? But I don't hold much hope of success TBH. As A.I.1 suggests, Handbrake might also be worth a try as a conversion utility : handbrake.fr You might also want to download and try MediaInfo While this software won't solve the issue, it is a useful tool to examine media / video files, so at least you could see if the file itself reports the correct frame size or not.

Jeff, Many thanks for the response and advice. The top left origin makes sense, but I still couldn't get it to do what I wanted. It was a bit of an unusual requirement - I was trying to reverse engineer and re-draw in vector an existing seamless pattern. The tool just doesn't seem set up for that. For one thing there didn't seen any way I could find to draw a pattern while having an underlying template layer for reference. I ended up creating it with old-school step and repeat plus some tweaks.

Here is my 1,000px x 1,000 px document. It has a 500px square - centered on the artboard showing the base color of the square tile I want to repeat. The two brown shapes are the first two shapes in the pattern. Simples... Even if I just have the green square visible and selected, then go Object > Pattern > Make. I get this: Everything is shifted off-center to some unknown location. Why? And how can I get everything to remain centered? This off-center situation means I can't position my other shapes accurately. Any advice appreciated!

In that case I think it's likely to be a non-square pixel file that AE is misinterpreting. Try different interpretation settings in the interpret footage dialog.

Are they rotating? If so, that may easily cause them to intersect if they are close in position. One way to check is to find a spot in your timeline where they clearly visually intersect, then at the bottom of the composition window use the menu that says 'Active Camera' and select 'Custom View 1'. You'll then be able to see your scene from a different angle. Find the 'Unified Camera tool' in the toolbox and you'll be able to drag around in your scene to see it from different viewpoints. Return to 'Active Camera' and the standard selection tool when finished.

Don't think about it too literally? Consider the paper stacks as just three basic animated shapes - front, side and top. Think of the 'papers sticking out from the stack' as simple triangle shapes animated with opacity.

One other option that may help : You could copy the path (which would be without rounding), paste it into Illustrator, apply rounding there, then copy and paste it back into AE.

A guess: Check your composition settings > Basic tab > Pixel Aspect Ratio. Is that set to 'Square pixels' ? If not - you'll need to give us more of a clue...

Just checked this on my Win 10 box with 3 monitors - and I see the same issue. I can get preview on one monitor, but not the other. The check mark in the preferences reverts to 'the other monitor' when I try. However - I am running three GPU's with 2 monitors connected to one, and the other monitor connected to another... So maybe I shouldn't be surprised...
