Proportional scale doesn't seem to be working either with or without holding shift key. With the free transform tool, it is possible to select to constrain proportions, but when using the regular select tool there doesn't seem to be any constraining of proportions, whether holding the shift key or not holding it. I've hunted through settings for anything that could be affecting it, I've reset preferences and restarted, but nothing seems to work.

I've found it's not just when pasting ... if I highlight a block of text and then start to type over it, my first keystroke gets missed. Only in InDesign (on Mac) as far as I've found. Apparently a nearly identical issue arose with InDesign on Windows back in 2018.

Hi, yea it is a large canvas document, but I haven't noticed this on others that I've been working on. I have restarted the computer as well, but still the same.

As you can see in the attached screenshot, my character panel shows the font size as 7.2, but when I click on the 3 dots that open more information the second panel shows the font size as 72. I'm guessing I've accidentally turned something on somewhere that means I'm working at some kind of 1:10 scale but I can't see/find how to turn it off and go back to just working 1:1.

This may be the technically "correct" explanation and behaviour, but I really don't think it's the "expected" behaviour and I would argue that truly intuitive software should respond to the user in the "expected" manner and so this qualifies as a bug with a workaround, not a true solution. What are the arguments for why manually selecting the characters of text using the type tool is preferable to simply selecting the entire text item with the select tool before applying a fill? Why can't using the select tool apply a fill to the entire text item, with the alternative of using the type tool to select specific characters when you don't want to apply the fill to the whole item? (and the same for grouped objects!) I am almost certain that this always used to be the behaviour in Illustrator and it baffles me why they have changed it for this non-intuitive and incredibly frustrating alternative. The fact that so many people keep asking the same question demonstrates that this action is not the expected behaviour for many users.

It's only been 20 months since this post … why was I expecting that it would have been fixed by now??
