Any recent change? Logged out many times a day

Starting today at some indeterminate time, I have been logged out of the forums in less that one hour periods. Firefox/Mac, Safari/Vista, Explorer/Vista.

This topic has been closed for replies.

When the change occured months ago with the log out routine I have stayed logged in for many days at a time, despite shutting off my computer each night.

I changed my screen name last week, and now each morning I have to log in.  Interesting.

Before the change, I stayed logged for months. After the change, I have rarely stayed logged for more than 24 hours, and there are periods, such as now, when I am logged out after a couple of hours of inactivity. And, although I can change my email address, my Adobe ID remains unchanged. Also interesting.

May I ask you if your Adobe ID is an email address?

My ID is my email address, but I have not changed that.  I re-checked the "remember me box" on the log-in page, will let you know it that changes anything.

I too get logged out after long periods of inactivity.

I've not been logged out for several weeks now on IE6. Too ba

d the rest of the problems remain (like that fun line break, for example).

(And while the speed is turgid compared to what it was before the 'improvements', it is no where near as slow as some people have reported.)

Well, it does seem to be a problem with my main account (this one). My Adobe ID is NOT my email address, but when trying to log in, I am prompted with my email address. If I try to log in with my email address, I am told that my Adobe ID and password do not match, but they do when I use my non email address.

I therefore tried changing both my email address and my Adobe ID, to a new email address. It didn't work; although the system accepts my new email address, it does not take it as my Adobe ID. I then changed back to my old email address, checking the box saying that I want to use my email address as my Adobe ID. Same story again: my "new" email address is accepted, but my Adobe ID is still my non email address.

    Too complicated for me.

It's now some days since I started again to been logged out after relatively short periods of inactivity (a few hours) in spite of not restarting my browser... Apart from some failed attempts to change my Adobe ID to an email address, I havent changed anything in any of my computers/browsers.

    January 14, 2010

I am able to log in and post here. Very time consuming. Time for lunch now.

Sorry to butt in and return to the original topic, specially considering that most probably JC won't be around

    here until after January 1st,

so this is just for the record.

Out of town, on somebody else's computer, Explorer/XP, completely different ISP, cable connection.

Logged in less than 12 hour ago, just came in after about 6 hours of inactivity only to find that I had been logged out.

All extra linefeeds kindly provided by the software.

You Just proved its defect at a

dobe and not at your end.  Sounds like the database

adobe use for user information has some defaults in it.

And if that is the case they they need to wre-write that portion of the database.

    Interesting.

In spite of following all the required/suggested precautions before logging in these forums, today I have been logged out in all three browsers after just a few hours of inactivity, and less than 12 hours after logging in. Before anyone asks, I have NOT been in the forums in more than one browser at a time.

I am beginning to think that my problem may be related with my two identities. I say this because, when I first log in after logging out (just an extra precaution), deleting cookies, and restarting browser, the Adobe ID box in the login window is blank. However, if I just re-log in (as I have just done to post this message), the box shows my email address which, to the best of my knowledge and as I have said several times, I have NEVER used as my Adobe ID. Not even on a temporary basis.

I therefore have a question (for JC). As said, my present ID is not my email address. Would the system allow me to change this ID to a different one (but still not an email address), and then back to my present one?

    Claudio,

I am going to ask a really stupid question.

Why is it, you do not wish to use an email address with the ID you want to use?

Phillip, for a very stupid reason. In spite of JC assuring us that such is not the case, I cannot help feeling that using an email address as one's Adobe ID can lead to trouble at the time one needs to change that address. Same as you did, by the way; we have already posted about this.

    Claudio,

If the issue has now been reduced to your having to log in at every browser start, as I understand from post #23, there may be a solution at least for FF under Enabling and disabling cookies (Help term): cookies are kept until expiring by default, which I have, but there is the option of only keeping them until closing FF. I believe this possibility has not been mentioned before.

Jacob, you are right, it seems I have reduced my problem to have to log in every time I start a browser. Thanks for your advise; I'll try following it as soon as I can.

Here is a report of another case of the automatic log out: 141.

OK, I think I am fixed - thank you Claudio and Philip!

I have always used CCleaner to control cookies, and no 'adobe.com' cookies showed up in there at all.

The cookies must have been corrupted, as they did show in Firefox (dozens and dozens of them).  I deleted them all from Firefox, recycled FF, and logged in again.  Recycled FF again, and I am still logged in.  Also, the 'adobe.com' and 'forums.adobe.com' cookies now show in CCleaner (now exempt from CCleaner deletion).

Pat, I am glad you finally solved your problem. Unfortunately, I haven't solved mine yet, but keep on trying.

I have just found the reason for the difference in behavior between my Mac and Win machines. I am ashamed to say I had completely forgotten that, when one closes a browser window in Windows, one also closes the browser, while in the Mac, this closes the window, but not the browser. This is why I was been logged out so soon in Win (I was always closing my browsers) while I remained logged in Mac (I was not closing the browser). I have just tried quitting Firefox in my Mac, and I was at once logged out of the forums.

One less mystery for me, although this may have been obvious for others following this thread. My apologies.

Except that I use a Mac and quit my Browser, in fact I quit my computer overnight. and  sometimes if I go out somewhere I quit my Browser and Computer. Some days I do this several times. I don't log out. I just quit, browser, or going to another website or then shut down.

Your not loging out everytime are you?? when you log out your logged out.

These cookies as long as you do not make an effort to Log out is supposed to keep you logged in.

No, Phillip, I am not doing that.

It seems I can no longer express myself very clearyl, but what I am experi

encig -and have experienced most of the time since the trial vers

ion of these new forums was implemented- is that I am automatically logged out of these forums every time I close whatever browser I am using.

All extra linefeeds gently added by the software (this seems to be worse in Explorer, which I'm using right now)
