Forums HORRIBLE March 14 2011

  • March 14, 2011

Started 9AM West Coast USA - several "false" logouts
.
I had a message all ready to go, and between composing and clicking post... I was logged out
.
I have been a member of the Adobe forums since Premiere 6x days, to learn and help when I can
.
Now, due to either a lack of resources provided by Adobe... or the Jive software... the forums are part of the problem, instead of being the solution
.
It is really frustrating to take 30+ seconds to get to a forum, or a message inside a forum... and then find out I have been logged out when the screen finally opens
.
This problem has been here for several weeks, off and on, and it seems nobody is able to fix this problem... not a good public face for Adobe

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this but I went to the message page from one of my email notifications and the message was not posted on the thread. I refreshed the thread, but nothing. So I closed that window and opened a new one; same thing. So I went to the Flash Player Forum from the Forum drop down menu and finally was able to see the post on the thread in question.

Now, I posted a message on a different thread and got the "unexpected error". Refreshed, but nothing. Used the back arrow and it brought the thread up and I saw my message posted.

A different thread, the same thing happened "unexpected error". This time the above didn't work, so I opened a new window and used the "Use Recovered" & most of my message came up. I added what didn't and clicked on Post Message and again received the "unexpected error". Did the whole thing again with a comment on what had happened and clicked on Post Message and got the same thing "unexpected error"

This just started happening since about 9:30 EDT. Don't know what to make of it yet. I hope we aren't starting another issue.

    Thanks,

Yes Claudio has already posted a message about this similar/related matter at this link:

    <http://forums.adobe.com/thread/842399?tstart=0>

Dreamweaver is also crippled for sometime now.  I am getting emails to notify me of new messages but they are not reflected on the forum.

    Something is happening today.

Yes, you are right, Bill.  There's definitely more than one way to do just about everything!

    Noel,

Seems that it worked regardless, based on the reply below yours, and above mine.

In the end, it's whatever does the job...

PS - I was about to start a Wacom Fund in The Lounge.

This forum system is just crap.

How is possible that a basic feature like research doesn't work... :-\

Even when it "works" the UI is ridicolous and lacks some basic functionalities.

From Adobe I'd expect something way better... What's happening there?

    >What's happening there?

Two plus years ago Adobe switched from their previous forum software to Jive

Forums gone for several minutes starting some 5 minutes ago...

It's taking me about 10 seconds to load any page of these forums, as compared with the little over 2 seconds of yesterday.

Also, I've just noticed that the «Updated» flag normally shown on threads with unread new messages is gone in all forums at this time.

Tai, you are not the only affected participant:

    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3570542#3570542

I am getting it in Firefox/Mac and Explorer/Win.

Also, loading times today seem to be twice as long as "normal".

Just in case someone is interested: I have just installed Firefox 4 in my Mac, and loading times for all sites have shortened noticeably. In these forums, for example, they have gone down from the "normal" of about 5 seconds to a "blazing" little over 2 secons (all times measured with the second hand of a normal analog watch).

Ah, that's better.  The responsiveness is in an unusual state:  pretty responsive

    Bob,

I also seem to have the forums back, and functioning, as of Wed. 23, 2011, and 7:00AM PDT (-8 GMT).

The morning dawned clear and bright, so it's fitting that the forum is also "back." Man, it was a couple of really horrible days.

Just an update on my last post. After that starting glitch, it appears that the Flash Player Forum is working as it should. Everything going thru, so that is very nice!!

Sort of a strange experience though

This is a "Saved" message that I tried to post here at 11:45AM EDT after getting a "an unexpected error has occurred". No,

it was not "unexpected" to me, since I saved it beforehand:

Different problems today on the Flash Player Forum, so far anyway. Thread opened, but not correctly. No way possible to type a message as the message are didn't open fully.  Only showed the title of the thread and "Post message"

Different problems occur, so when one seems to be working, a new one pops up. Then if that one is "solved", then it starts all over again with something else.

Very frustrating, not only for those of us that help on the Forums, but the users as well. 18 to 20 minutes yesterday to get a message to go thru isn't working very well at all.

Granted I don't know what is causing these major issues, but we certainly see the effects.

...and the responsiveness of the Adobe Forum servers is still much, much worse than any site I regularly use...

Alas, I see no signs of lasting progress.

The forums seem to be even worse the morning of March 22

    .
1-sometimes VERY slow to load pages
2-sometimes pages won't load on the 1st try
3-even more logouts than when I started this thread
4-reclicking login somestimes stays on page, sometimes goes the forum index
    .
IF someone is trying to do a fix... it isn't working
    March 22, 2011

Hi John, I'm not having much of #1,2. But #3,4 yes. I've sent 3 messages since before 3PM EDT. I am seeing that after I compose my message (using the Ctrl+C first) it never goes thru the first time, always logs me off. Then my problem is having the message saved and then trying to remember which thread it is for Then when I paste the message after finding the thread, it goes thru.

I haven't been here as long as you and others, but I've never seen anything like this on the Internet at all. And I certainly don't understand what is happening and why it can't be fixed.

Haven't heard from anyone but "us" either.

Where do they PUT 6,000 spam posts?  Surely you don't have THAT many different forums.

If you're getting spammers making accounts at a rate fast enough that you can't keep up with them, doesn't that say that you need new account opening policies?

Surely there must be a method by which the "normal" behavior of reasonable participants can be monitored and differentiated from that of spammers.  It certainly seems possible for a human to tell whether someone's makig a reasonable post or just a trash post to get an account established.  I report all of those that I see.
