...and now the responsiveness is pretty darned good

    September 26, 2009

For now it is faster. Until the caffeine IV runs out.

    September 26, 2009

I'm going to keep bumping this thread till the slowness gets fixed!

At the time of writing this the forums are not slow – they are unusable!

Normally, my download times are between 8 and 14 seconds (as compared to the well less than a second in the old forums), and today I am getting times in the high end of this range, so I see nothing "unusual". Some 12 hours ago, however, times were about 50% longer for a while.

    September 26, 2009

It took 8 seconds for the reply box to appear.

It took 13-14 seconds for the main forum list to appear when I click on the "Forum Comments" link in the breadcrumb trail.

This really slow on my fast computer, I can only imagine what it's like on my "slow" one ...

    Jay,

I am from the future. Do not complain, as the forum will go off-line on Sept 03, and not be back up until the morning of Sept 04.

Just be happy that you have, what you have.

PS - since it was locked, when I first saw it, welcome to the Adobe fora!

PPS - if your interests are Photoshop (where your post got moved to), or video production, there is a good "Community" at Muvipix. It is not Adobe-centric, per se, though many of the Adobe products for the above operations are featured. It's muli-level in that anyone can post/read, and with a subscription, much Functional Content, like stock video footage, etc. is available. There are many sub-fora, some Adobe, and some other suppliers. It's all about helping folk get the most from either still image manipulation, or video production. The "Water Cooler," is equal to the Lounges here, but without the association with particular programs.

Really slow today...site not loading... pages not loading. Site unavailable messages, etc. Wonder if some 'upgrade' is taking place and they didn't inform us... Or maybe it's a downgrade... most likely an upgrade downgrade... anyway... Tried logging in first about 5 hours ago... 08:00GMT... just got in and still crawling...

This Jive driven forum shure ain't jivin' in one sense of the word but more than jivin' in other senses of the word!

    Cheers...

Sorry, I spent the money given to me to pay the server bill on beer. I was thirsty. It won't happen again.

extra slow page reload and login as of 12:20 EDT, northeast PA.

    August 29, 2009

This evening its over 30 seconds a page. That really is unacceptable on a high speed connection.

    September 1, 2009

Today its even slower than the last time I complained. This is really sucky.

This reminds me of being connected to a 28.8 modem and waiting forever for a page to load.

but that was 17 years ago.

The forums are still very slow and getting slower every day.

Is adobe really so short of cash that they can't afford decent servers and a webmaster who could clean out the ballast from this appallingly bad site?

Maybe we should have a whip round!

    August 21, 2009

They're probably getting slower because the Jiveware database and app server can't handle the load.  All the extra crap back and forth data with "points", extra posts because search is practically useless, extra clicks because the back button doesn't always work the way it should, etc.

Ah, who am I kidding... nobody's using this stupid software heavily anymore.  It's slow because it's Jive, only explanation.

I am measuring a 9% slowdown over optimal performance. Not something really noticeable without measurement tools.

If your experiences are different, could you please quantify them? There is a a new FAQ entry How should I report forum performance issues? which explains how to report performance issues in a way that we can validate and escalate them

    I don't think you understand.

"Optimal performance" is a pathetic crawl anyway, so what's the point of quantifying something slower than pathetic?

I visit dozens of web sites in a day and not one is as slow as the adobe snail.

page loading on these forums is like using Photoshop on a 20MHz computer. do something and go make a cup of coffee, the task maybe done when you get back. The shear simplicity of the fair WebCrossing forums when a slow page load was 3 or 4 seconds.

    August 12, 2009

I am sure that not all the slow loading of pages is caused by Jive.

Can adobe not do something to improve things?

    August 13, 2009

So did they fix anything while the forums were unavailable?

    August 11, 2009

I can log in now but it is not as snappy. Clicking on something still results in lag.

    August 11, 2009

These Jive based forums have been consistently slower than the old WebX forums since they were introduced.

Slower by a considerable factor and not helped by the underlying adobe page junk either.

The ColdFusion based forums were always slug-like.

I am not basing this on random observations but on daily use.

    August 10, 2009

PJ it's probably Adobe's servers, especially with that temp login problem announcement they just had up, they must have something jiving them up.

It's been slower for me too, even with Chrome.  Not only that but I think the slowness is causing lots of other strange behavior and weird bugs to occur.  Like: clicking on page links either seems to do nothing or takes forever to change, or hitting the back button from say page 2 or 3 brings you back to a post you had previously responded to instead of the previous page--or even page 1.  (Or is that the "normal" behavior?)

Yep, extra Jived up forums, today.
