Spicing up rendering times (without breaking the bank)

I’ve got this rig:

MSI Z79-G45 Gaming (MS-7821)

Socket 1150 LGA

Intel Core i7 4790 K @4Ghz

DDR3 Dual channel NON ECC 16 GB max 32 GB

Nvidia Geforce GTX 670.

What are my options qua hardware to speed up rendering times?

A 30 sec. clip 1080p in AE with lots of effects  takes about 30 minutes.
Note: I don’t do video on a daily basis as a pro.

Here's what's wrong with your approach:

Any incremental improvement in your system will cost you far more money than what miniscule real-world improvement in performance justifies.

That is one of the reasons why we strongly recommend an entire new system at this point instead of wasting any of your hard-earned money big time.

Now, if you have to do only a selective upgrade, I'd recommend replacing the CPU, motherboard and RAM all at once. You cannot reuse your existing RAM at all in any new build because it is both physically and electrically incompatible with any newer motherboards.

You would need to change more than it would be worth (CPU. mobo, RAM, graphics card, possibly more disks).

You would be better off saving the money for a more powerful computer.

I don’t do new computers. My tower is 40 years old and I change components when needed. The sys hd is an ssd and there‘s abundant HD space available, so that’s not it. So the reply is not what I’m looking for.

I don't think any one thing will significantly improve rendering.  The system is fairly well balanced, except for perhaps the video card.  Any changes to make dramatic improvements will require a complete rebuild.
