Well, I was a nervous wreck today ( this morning up to now ....cause now its BEER THIRTY YIPEE ! TIME to relax )
Reason for nervous wrecklessness is I went to micro center in MN. area to pick out new computer components and see if they could build it for me, and be within my tight budget.
It took about 3 hours . But luckily the sales guy I met up with was fantastic and very cool.. and knew a LOT of stuff about high end machines and monitors etc.. through his own computer use ( serious gamer but aware of video editing and photoshop on pro level ). He did a lot to lessen my anxiety... and between us we think we got a good system for starting out. I can add stuff ( drives and better monitor(s) later as needed ).
This is what I got...and I will pick it up in 3-4 days from now...and it will weigh about 40 pounds ! Yikes ! It's HUGE !
After I pick it up and bring home I'm gonna install cs6 hard copy creative suite... update both windows and CS6 to newest versions and patches and fixes and whatever... and then unplug the ( disable ) new computer from internet.
We figured on 1 SSD for OS
1 SSD for scratch disk ( cs6 ) and probably those temp rendered files etc that PR likes...
2 Hard drives in raid 1 for source material
1 Hard drive for exports.
Then I can use my ext hd graid for backup of exports or for transit.
I'm probably gonna need help getting this set up right and adobe loaded properly.. and hope this thread can do that even though we are in lounge and typically dont deal with tech issues... I'll see how that goes down the road.
I really don't wanna spread myself all over the map and share posts with people who are frankly a bit less than interested in trying to eek out the best 'pro' system I can get going with this startup system...with an eye for adding to it later ( like when I get a client for example.. which would be nice at some point.. duh )
Anyway, regardless, it's BEER THIRTY ! YIPPEEE !
AND I GOT A NEW COMPUTER ( almost )

Since you seem to have come to a conclusion on the name, a quick aside on your labor talks.
The entire city of Oakland is on strike, or rather, the city employees. I took a couple of hundred pictures yesterday and not a one is interesting enough to post for any artistic reason unless I crop something maybe, but I have quite a few that I could post for political reasons were I so inclined. There is one that bothers me a lot. It is wrong on so many levels with just that large dose of truth to make it convincing for the masses. I shot a picture of a sign that indicates that these folks in Oakland really need to get their act together and consolidate their message.
I will not post the picture here but you can find it through the following link.
It has a profanity in it, so be aware.

I won't check that link right now..but have to say right off the bat a very important thing...
first off a union of per diem employees ( crafts people and motion pic mechanics , cameramen etc ) is VERY VERY different than ANY OTHER UNION. Both private sector and public sector unions are NOTHING like what freelance workers have ( basically per diem means 'per day ' and is weird...as it's like freelance but you are in fact an employee for the length of that particular movie etc... per day )
This distinction is EXTREMELY important to recognize right off the bat. Unfortunately when people hear the word 'union' they think it is like one giant same thing... every union is now basically the same... This couldn't be further than the truth.
Likewise, it is silly to say all corporations or govt. entities are the SAME in terms of their employees etc.... it's just plain dumb.
That said, it is my personal opinion that union and or labor in general should never be at odds with the employer in terms of doing the very best jobs for the lowest costs. Unfortunately this whole thing gets very complex in a social context ( hourly rates, straight time weeks, pooling resources for pension and healthcare plans, and tons of issues including child labor and equal pay and etc etc ad nauseum )
And THAT said, the current practice of civil unions ( govt workers ) to vote into office those polititicians who will in turn VOTE for and LEGISLATE in favor of the " union "... is practically speaking very mean to the tax payers who are really the 'employer".. in other words, the tax payers ( citizens ) who are the real employers, are being ignored and bypassed by the union affecting to such great extent the voting success for the politician. The politician is NOT the employer , for civil union ( public sector ). I personally think that civilians should get way more active at their council meetings and town hall meetings etc. so that the voices of the people are paramount to what is done with their taxes etc.
As long as people don't even recognize the 'differences' between unions and what thier influence is, this will never change..

yeah, Steve, that sign is basically the age old rant of the old " anarchist ".. which was real popular back in the 1800's especially in Europe. Umberto Eco's book, ' The Prague Cemetary" has a lot of great references to that sort of stuff ( it is basically a book of factual things with a main fictional character to tell the story )... not only the anarchy thing..but also the racism and some other weird stuff that flew around the edges of that whole mess ( like secret societies and religions etc ...some very messed up stuff ).
Instead of realizing self worth and assertion of self within the system to make good changes and help others, the anarchist hates everything and does nothing. At best they throw bombs to destroy things. Might as well not go here... as it will only get crazy and next thing you know I'll be ranting and raving and running amok and scaring Bill....who watches my back and keeps me sane.

I have no objection to people who believe that nonsense. I just think that Strike organizers would want to be careful about the people on the fringes who subvert the message.
In this case, the city workers don't have a contract, so they have every right to strike. Or find another, more lucrative, job in the private sector.

well, they have a contract, but it's the old one that expired and no new one has been forthcoming ...probably some demands by city want them to give up some stuff or not give them raises over the life of new contract or whatever. If they wanted to they could have kept working and deal with the same stipulations in the old contract that expired I think...and keep trying to negotiate.. through the labor board and arbitration etc... whatever. I hate that stuff. Like I said though, it's important to get the actual citizens involved ( the tax payers )...
If, for example, the economy is not doing well and most of the people in the city are making ends meet with tough times, and their employees ( the one's they pay to supply services through their govt administration are making way more than THEY are, something has to give.... ... I mean lets face it, you need someone to keep garbage collection operating smoothly so the govt is the best place to keep that organized and functioning .... but the point is that it's not the politician who should speak with the employees, but the citizens instead.
" Say, Joe, I wish you could get a 5% raise so your base salary goes up to X , but that means a tax rate rise of X for me and my neighbors, and we are struggling right now, due to economy and my own salary has actually declined in the past 5 years.. so can't we kinda get together on this and work out something that is kinda fair to all of us ??"
It sure is a pain and sloppy and full of problems dealing with these things...especially complex cause more and more people are feeling the pain of scrimping and stagnation.
Nothing as bad as Europe yet... but certainly not good.

Rodney,
How can you possibly edit with that rig? You didn not go with the cooling fans, with the pulsing, multi-colored LED's!
Now, if you can hook up that liquid cooler, so that if first runs through your beer box, you will set up. Maybe get one of these, and run the cooling tubes to it?
Looks like a good system. I would have gone one size up on that second SSD, but maybe that is just me?
Enjoy, and let us know of your progress.

sadly, no....maybe the next project ....
Yesterday my boating trip got cancelled due to bad weather, so I did test ( yet another test ...must be up to about a gazillion tests by now for the past 2 years ? )...
using prPro cs6 standalone program ( ver 6.0.3 ) and pig...I did a title, rolling title, stuck in some mov h264 from nikon, and a few maps with overlays ( adjusting opacity and levels as needed )... basically have old plats from original usgs survey and put that over current maps to show how accurate they were. unfortunately lake minnetonka area is so big it takes 2 plats to cover the whole lake..and the seam ( stitched plats ) is just barely east of Mound.....so it got tricky stitching stuff and lining up the overlays....
But anyway, I just wanted to test the export really... see if the tweening is better than cs3 was...and in general see how the titles look etc...
I put a wav file in ( moulin rouge ) just to have some sound ( stereo ).
all in all I was happy with result and program and pig...got red line when I added something ( forget what...cause I ended up deleting that )...some effect...but even with red line there wasnt any stuttering of playback etc.
but no babies on skates yet...

“For each additional year of work, the risk of getting dementia is reduced by 3.2 percent,” said Carole Dufouil, a scientist at INSERM, the French government’s health research agency.
scary snakes, documentaries about angelic communities, Godzilla in space, shark hurricanes, bloomberg in power, all these things lead to a better life ! All you have to do is keep living and the French Republic has declared that sex and wine is the BEST way to accomplish that as you shop for diapers over 70 !

One good thing about dating Ms. Lagarde, is that she can pick up the tab. Of course, she's innocent, but I understand that her checking account just expanded by about $60M. Let her buy.

hehe.. wedding video...good idea !...
I like the idea of maybe getting a big fan with camera attached to blade...and get pics of people throwing rice at us...but I'm afraid someone will have left the fan setting on HIGH...and the rice hits the fan ...and like little rice ROCKETS the stuff flies into everyone's eyes, temporarily blinding them...and then the camera string breaks ( that keeps it from swinging way out )...and it ends up getting smashed into a tree and then camera parts go ROCKETING off the blade and whacks people in the head, knocking them out...etc...
Bill, she can pick up the tab easy enough...but the problem is actually having the date without interruption. Sheesh... every time I start to lean over to give her a little peck on the cheek someone comes up and says to her, " Hey you, sign this quick or Italy will go bankrupt " or else, " Hey you, take this phone call from the President of X, or else the the western hemisphere markets will go into a nose dive ! "
always something....
