Hello AE forum!

Was wondering if anyone knew how this specific effect (squiggly shapes) was created @ 02:09 in the following animation.

TED-Ed – The Ethical Dilemma of Self-driving Cars on Vimeo

Was it created in AE with shape layers, masks?

Or was it animated n Photoshop and then brought into AE?

Thank you in advance!

Roei, thanks for your reply. I have tried the Photoshop cell animation style, and I must admit it's trick. The most tricky part is having smooth animation (not all jumpy).

Bao plug in looks good, there's also this one:

Hi. for less jumpy, you need more frames. Photoshop has onion skin, this should help you. but it is a lot of work.  for photoshop animation lessons, you might want to take a look at this: Photoshop Animation Basics - YouTube

this looks like either frame by frame a-la-cell animation in photoshop or other 2d animation App or by the looks of the whole animation this was done in a 3D app and later cartoon filtered to look more 2d-ish.

this doesn't mean you can't recreate some of this in Ae with shape strokes, using roughen edges to get a more sketchy appearance, and a trim path animation. but these won't be textured...

you can also try the new BAO BOA plugin that can distort layers along a path - a long awaited feature now available in Ae via this 3rd party plugin.
