Lens Correction settings on RAW files from Canon R6 mkiii

When importing RAW files from my Canon R6 mkiii, Lightroom automatically applies “Remove chromatic aberration” and “Enable profile corrections”.

This is all very good, as I do normally tick these settings. However, this has become a problem when using my Sigma 12-24mm lens as I’m not able to adjust the amount of distortion I need.

I previously shot with a Canon 5d mkiv, and Lightroom would not automatically apply these settings. I would then tick the boxes to apply the settings, and had adjusted the default for the lens to also apply a specific amount of distortion. I was very happy with this.

I now find that the photos with said lens have too much distortion, and I can't correct it properly.

In camera, I have all the “Lens aberration correction” settings disabled.

Anyone know how to prevent Lightroom from automatically applying “Remove chromatic aberration” and “Enable profile corrections” to imported photos?

This can be done in the preferences in Lightroom. Create a preset in which the lens corrrection is disabled and  assgin it to the appropriate camera model.

Hi AxelMatt, thanks for taking the time to answer. I’ve tried what you suggested and unfortunately that doesn't seem to work. The preset doesn't apply when importing the photos. Perhaps I’m missing a step somewhere, but I have to choose the preset in the import window. In either case, this doesn't give me the amount of distortion control that I was getting when shooting with my 5d mk iv and the same lens. Perhaps it’s a Canon problem rather than an Adobe problem?

Ok. The Sigma 12-24 is a EF lens and on using your 5D there’s no converter between lens and camera. The R6 has a RF mount and you have to use a converter. I’ve heard it’s problematic of using some Sigma EF lenses on RF cameras.

Does Lightroom identifiying this combination (R& and Sigma) correctly?

What happened if you choose the settings manually in the lens correction section?

Yes Lightroom recognises the lens for what it is. I’d also heard that it can be a problem for some lenses using the RF adapter but was more to do with auto focusing.

Yes it’s possible to adjust things manually in the “Manual” window within the “Lens Corrections” but this has an undesired effect of cropping the image.

Hopefully the following images will illustrate my problem. The image of the window is taken with the R6. The image of the tree with a 5D. Both with the 12-24 lens. Hopefully you can see the difference in the amount of distortion control between the images. There is a screen shot of each image with minimum and maximum distortion control. In the window image from the R6, the difference between maximum and minimum is barely perceptible. While in the tree image the difference is quite marked.

This poses a problem for me because I shoot a lot of interiors with the 12-24 and need to adjust the vertical lines.
