LR, PS and sidecars
Relatively new to both PS and LR after migrating from using Elements for about 1.5 years.
I am trying to understand when and how LR and PS work together, and especially what is destructive edit versus non-destructive editing.
To me it appears that the Develop module in LR is similar if not the same as the "Camera Raw" mode of PS. If I use the develop module in LR, it doesn't appear to be creating a .xmp side car. So it it performing a destructive edit? Is there some preference setting that I haven't found? Or are those adjustments just save in the catalog?
So after modifying a photo in develop and then I open it in PS it appears that the changes I made are migrated and visible in PS. But I no longer seem to have have those same type of adjustments available in PS. I there a way to get those options?
I did find out how to open a jpeg file in PS, such that it will open in PS Camera raw and get the basic adjustments (eg. tlemp, exposure) when I first open it. After making those adjustments are they then saved in a sidecar/xmp file?
I realize that layers and adjustment layers can only be saved from PS as a PSD (and maybe TIFF) format. But what if I did something like a spot heal or clone stamp to touch up photo, is there then a way to save the adjusted/new pixels as part of the raw file? Or is the only option at that point to save the psd file?
Seems like I have to save as jpeg and "rename" and then I have to re-import to get the jpeg files back into LR.
TIA
Frank
