Hi,I'm building a new computer for basic 4K video editing, and am stuck on whether to go with a 5820K or a 6700K. I prefer the latter if the performance difference won't be too great, due to the lower power / cooler running of Skylake, plus the Z170's newer tech (not a huge difference, but things like native USB 3.1 and M.2 support feel good). However, the current supply shortage has made me antsy, and I've begun to wonder whether I should go with Haswell-E or not.The main things I'd like to improve over my current system (i7-920, 12GB RAM -- 6+ years old) are:1. Warp Stabilizer speed (super slow on my current machine, and sometimes I have nothing else to do so just have to wait);2. Rendering (either in AE, or AME);3. Faster preview framerates without creating proxies (now they're about 1 or 2fps).I would probably moderately OC both: the 5820K to around 4 GHz, and the 6700K to around 4.5GHz. The system will have 32GB RAM. For GPU, I was thinking of using the built-in one with the 6700K

I'm on a "gaming" Win laptop using one of the latest nVidia GPU's, the GTX 880M. Being new--year old really new?--, I had to add it to the list contained in cuda_supported_cards.txt for Pr, AE and AME. With the newest CC 2014 update, these .txt files are no longer present in their respective program folders.Does this mean that the programs no longer differentiate? If they see CUDA cores they enable the acceleration? Or does this mean they stopped the end-user from by-passing their filters? How to verify if I'm getting the acceleration? I recall having the feature greyed out in previous versions of these programs if I hadn't yet edited the list, and at the moment they are not greyed out despite not having found a list to edit.I've searched for mention of this change in newest version but have yet found a discussion.Thanks in advance,Andrew

Guess what is new in Premiere CC 2014 8.1 release?No more "cuda_supported_cards.txt" or "opencl_supported_cards.txt" files!Both this laptop and my main editing computer with so called "unsupported" GPU's (GTX 765M and GTX970) are working fine and even opening an older CS6 project I did not get the "unsupported" message.  I believe it did come up initially and I just breezed by it but now opening a third older CS6 project that had a much older GPU when it was last opened did not give me the message.  Evidently, once Premiere 8.1.0.81 learns that it is a hardware accelerated usable GPU never asks you again.  I further tried installing a second GPU a GTX 770 Sc along with the GTX 970 Sc and Premiere saw it immediately.  Congratulations again to Adobe on this great improvement for Premiere.

How do you set up your editing machine in terms of disks for maximum performance and reliability? (SSD's are left out here.)This is a question that often arises and all too often one sees that initial settings are really suboptimal. These rules are intended to help you decide how to setup your disks to get the best response times. Of course the only disks in an editing machine must be 7200 RPM types or faster. I have recently had a new high spec edit PC built. It comes with 4 drives as follows:Drive 1 - 250Gb SSD currently the root drive. This drive is dual boot partitioned with a 50/50 split of the 250Gb. On one partition is Windows 7, on the other Windows 10. We recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (clean install), added two SSD drives (one as a system drive, one for Adobe cache, etc.), and the system has a 10TB RAID for media.  The system is a dual proc Xeon machine.  We also upgraded from the Quatro 4000 to the M5000 (properly connected and supplied with the additional power required, latest drivers installed).  The problem is that I notice no difference in the slugish performance I see in Premiere and in rendering.  I've attached a screen capture that shows almost no GPU usage and the render of a 24 second clip taking nearly an hour with long gaps between frames in which the computer seems to do nothing.  And why is CPU utilization so hight?  There are a few effects applied to the footage, mainly MagicBullet Denoiser II as well as some Grad filters. Raw footage is BMCC DNG image sequence.  I understand that Denoiser II is slow, but I'm not understanding why it is so slow on such an expensive s

I am trying to purchase a PC laptop to use with Creative Cloud - mostly to use Photoshop with basic photo editing; Indesign, Illustrator and Acrobat.  I don't do any 3-d work or crazy intensive graphics.  Between Nvidia and Adobe I can not get a clear answer as to what I need as far as a graphic card - I was told 'they are different cards for different purposes' which doesn't really help... I am very frustrated .  I need to know whether I can use an Nvidia GTX (gaming) card or if I have to upgrade to the Quadro line. The low end/cheaper Quadro cards (k620 or m1100) are more expensive and slower than the Geforce 975M (or higher) cards, but I don't know if there is something the Quadro cards have that the gaming GTX cards do not have that I may need to do my work.  Can anyone explain the real world differences between the Quadro and Geforce cards in understandable terms?  I read something about Open GL and also about the system not being able to switch to the mem

I'm ordering a new Mac Pro for editing 4K footage and I have the following CPU options available to choose from: 3.5GHz 6-core with 12MB of L3 cache, 3.0GHz 8-core with 25MB of L3 cache2.7GHz 12-core with 30MB of L3 cache.  I don't want to order one with a slower clock speed if Premiere Pro doesn't utilize 12 cores, or even 8 cores.  I guess there's a trade off between clock speed and processing cores and I'm trying to find the sweet spot.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hi, I need to build a new POWERFUL video editing machine for After Effects/Premiere and could need some input as I am low on time.The machine must be really fast in video editing/rendering, and I will be working both 1920x1080, 3840x2160 (24p) and 4K x 4K resolution projects. Today I acquired an eVGA GeForce 960 FTW card with 2GB of GDDR5 VRAM to test against my main PC's existing GeForce GTX 750 Ti (also with 2GB of GDDR5 VRAM).But first, here's my impetus:Despite the fact that the GTX 750 Ti was newer than my now-sold GTX 660, I felt that the GTX 750 Ti was a sizable downgrade from the GTX 660 in some ways, and equal to the GTX 660 in others. I just want to throw the computer and Premiere out of the window. I'm so frustrated that I want to stop doing video work for good! Once a year I have to edit large instructional DVDs for a dance camp. This year I'm having major issues that kill my life and my health. I have spent more than 3 weeks on that issue without any result.Problem: When I export a section of the Premiere timeline the kernel graphics card driver crashes. About 1 to 10 minutes into exports (direct export, no queued AME) the screen goes black and Windows reports a NVidia driver kernel error. The driver is recovered and Premiere hangs. This only happens on CUDA export not with the software option of Mercury. The error is not related to a certain clip or portion of it. If it crashes on a certain clip and I restart Premiere this clip will be rendered fine the next time. The crashes happen always after a certain but varying time somewhere during the rendering.Since the source material is 2K I need to scale it for DVD o

What is the best PC hardware for video editing in Premiere pro ?

Hello, I'm slightly frustrated. I'm using an aging Mac Pro currently and I'm planning to build a custom made workstation to replace it. Since I've began using some Windows Only applications in my workflow Mac isn't in the picture right now.As of right now Intel has two types of i7 based CPU's on the market utilizing the 2011 V2 chipset. Quad Core CPU's that have excellent single thread performance and marginal relative multithreading performance and 6 and 8 core CPU's that offer better multi threading support but lack the single thread performance the quad cores achieve.I'm trying to figure out what configuration would be better for Premiere Pro and After Effects with my workflow which is mostly 2k footage but I'm beginning to use 5k and 6k downscaled.  My current Mac pro (a 2010 6 Core unit) has trouble running more than one 2k stream even when utilizing ram preview and SSD swap storage. the 680 has well over 1500 cuda cores, while the Quadro has 256 per.  Im not very hip to the new video in computers but do understand that the purposes of these cards are very different. Would it be better to buy a Quadro or a gtx 680? going in to a  SR-X mobo w/48 gb ram and  4( by 4) HDD arrays on independant sas raid cards.Im building a new system cuz my SR-2 isnt cutting it, keeps crashing after adding the second raid card to it.thanks in advance.
