Increasingly there appear questions about which laptop to get for CS5/6.First, the question is why a laptop and why not a desktop?Laptops are always at least 2 to 3 times slower than a desktop, they are significantly more expensive than a desktop with the same or better performance and they need a wall outlet to use. Introduction:     Hello, I ran some tests today to see if RAM speed really made any difference when it comes to After Effects. In short, my finding are that, no, it doesn't make any difference. At least not for the type of project I tested it with. Below are my findings, but first, my system specs.System Specs:Water Cooled Intel Core i7-3930K (4.3GHz OC)120GB Sata II SSD for OS and Programs256GB Sata III SSD for Project Files and After Effects Disk Cache16GB (4x4GB) Corsair Vengeance RAM (Stock timings are 1600MHz @ 8,8,8,24)1GB Nvidia GTX 460 SETest Project:     The project consisted of 6 AVCHD videos played simultaneously and some very basic effects like corner pinning and cc wire removal. Ive got the Creative Cloud deal, so my software is up to date (CS6) as of 8/16/12, and after installing my new GTX 680 4GB card and enabling it in Premiere and After Effects, I see a nice performance gain over my older GTX 550 ti 1.5GB. When I drop a finished H.264 Blu-ray file into a sequence and export it from Premiere into AME, my graphics card shows about 40-60% regular usage throughout the encoding, no matter what format I am exporting to. But if I just drop the same original H.264 file into AME and set it to the exact same encode output preset, then the graphics card is not used at all.Also, when you run GPUSniffer in the Encore program folder, you can see that it will not accept this card for GPU utilization. Ive looked all around for the Encore list of cards database it is pulling from, and Ive concluded that it must be in a compiled DLL file, so unlike Premiere, you cant modify it to detect the GPU. Hello all!I have repurposed my home office HP Elite MiniTower 8300 into an editing rig. It already had an i7 so all I did was bump the RAM to 16GB and replace the system drive with a shiny new fast 512GB SSD from Transcend. Added 2x 3TB WD Black Drives for storage. But now the video card...I can afford the PNY K600 with 1GB or stretch the budget a little extra and get a Palit GTX 560 Ti with 2GB RAM for another 50 $I know this question has been flogged to death between the Quadro and Gaming cards but the new Qudro K series - do they change the playing field?Which card will give Premiere and PhotoShop the most bang?Many thanks for any pointers!

In a previous thread, I had asked about video cards for CS6, and the result was that I had pretty much decided the GTX 570 with 2.5GB VRAM was the sweet spot for me, at around $300. But today I was just reading about the GTX 660 Ti, which is also around $300 and seems like competition for the 570.But some things seem better on the 570, like 2.5 GB of 320-bit VRAM versus 2GB of 192-bit VRAM on the 660. Also, the EVGA GTX 570 comes with a Lifetime warranty but the GTX 660 Ti only has a 3-Year warranty. Hmm...But other things seem better on the 660 Ti, like 1344 CUDA cores versus 480 CUDA cores on the 570. Also the 660 TI's core clock speed is 915 MHz versus the 570's 732 MHz.But tech specs are one thing - I'm really more interested in real-world performance and bang for the buck.Given that the two cards are both about $300, my gut says to go for the newer technology and lower power usage of the 660 Ti.Thoughts?P.S. Hello folks. Been searching for help on this issue for awhile, and just went through a long RMA process with ASUS only to find that the issue still exists.Basic problem -- The USB 3.0 ports on the back of the motherboard will not work in with USB3.0 devices.  They work just fine with USB 2.0 devices though.  The USB 3.0 ports on the front of the PC work just fine.  I'm running windows 7 64 bit.The way the problem presents.  I plugin my 2 Seagate 3TB external drives and after awhile they aren't recognized any more (this is after a fresh, up to date driver install and re-setting the bios).  My Kingston USB 3.0 card reader also is not recognized.  I have one unknown device in the device manager.  If I plug the 2x 3TB backup drives into the USB 2.0 slots, everything works just fine.  If I plug USB2.0 devices into the USB 3.0 plugs - those items work fine.  This is the second MB to do this.  It seems to me like it is a driver issue, but ther

Good afternoon!Two years ago you guys (especially Harm) helped me to build a PC for Premiere. After two years I had to update my disks setup and decided to buy a Samsung 830 SSD for OS. Now, after I've read tons of informations about how to setup the drive, I know nothing...As I remember, and as I checked on this forum, if you have 4 disks setup, you should set your pagefile on any other disk but OS disk - especially if You work in Photoshop, which uses pagefile a lot. I have found the GeForce GTX 650 Ti card quite cheap, but i need to know, does the Premiere Pro CS5.5 Mecury GPU Playback engine support this card? Harm, I don't know if you remember me as I haven't been here since Premiere Pro 6.0, but I just upgraded to CS3 and now CS6.  These Adobe forums are so over-produced I can't find the correct place to post this question so I hope you will forgive me.  How do you get Premiere Pro CS6 to output to an NTSC monitor.  I was outputting to this monitor under CS3 by using a Grass Valley conterter box coming out of the system firewire, but it doesn't seem to work under CS6.  Thanks, Jamesjjaeger@mecfilms.com610-688-9212

Hi there,Have been doing a ton of reading on different forums and everyone has come to similar conclusions that this is about as hard as it gets, but seeing as I will be moving around a lot in the next year and my organization has agreed to pay $2500ish for one here we are... I recently upgraded my video card from a GTX 580 to a GTX 680. At first, PP did not recognize the card and I had to manually add it to the config(?) file.My problem is that PP CS6 makes very poor use of my new card. My render times are slower than before. When I check the GPU usage, it keeps jumping up and down. It never reaches above 40 odd percent.Am I doing something wrong?

That's why I'm having this question for Mac only.I'm on a Mac Pro, Snow Leopard CS5.5 , and I want to re-instal a clean new system with Lion and CS6... mostly to edit 5K footage from the Epic (+ VFX and grading)... So it is mostly about PPro and AE (not quite sure about Speed Grad, still have to try it out).What are my best options, as of today, in terms of graphic cards... ?
