Video Hardware

Right now I'm editing video on my 2015 13 inch macbook pro. It has 512 gbs of storage, so I imported about 200 gb the other day and got to editing. The computer handles it pretty well, but recently I've heard that importing all the footage to the drive on the computer is not that efficient. Can you edit video straight from an external ssd or hdd, and if you can, how does the speed compare to using the native drive on the macbook? Thanks[Moderator note: moved to best forum]

Hello,I am looking into building/ getting a PC for mainly render only purposes. I have been trying to figure out whether a good GPU is much of use on After Effects (and ideally on Premiere as well). I am a bit of a beginner in terms of computer structure, but so far I've been looking into the other elements being CPU i5 8600k, 16-32 GB DDR4 RAM and in terms of GPU was looking at 1080 GTX, but is it necessary?I want to also mention that a variety of budgets would be ideal, just so I know what the potential is out there.Any advice on what would work best for a pc for best render on AE and Premiere overall would be much appreciated! Hello!I am currently working on several complex projects in Premiere Pro and After Effects, and I'm concerned that I'm not getting the performance I should be getting out of my computer. Specifically, I don't think Premiere Pro is using the GPU the way it's supposed to.I've already covered the basics of troubleshooting—Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Media Encoder are all set to use the CUDA version of the Mercury Playback Engine, and GPUSniffer correctly identifies my GPU.Now I'm ready to embark on more serious testing. Hiya. It took me a whole day to install the drivers for the card - mini monitor 4k- (installed in PCI-x8 slot ) and get the card recognized by WIN 7 pro. Newest BM driver worked.. just had to keep clicking 'install' about 10 times. Got signal on reference monitor … Lilliput FA10113/S … field monitor ( 10.1" ). When making new project in CS6 I have several choices. The monitor is only good for full HD, like 24 fps which is what I shoot anyway.I have a MSI graphics card in PCI X 16 slot, with Nvidia Cuda, and 2 monitors connected via DVI, and now the BM card.When I set up a test project to get the ref monitor to work I chose Blackmagic playback and both monitors hooked up to graphics card.Also chose Blackmagic preset ( full hd progressive 23.97 fps) and put some junk video in timeline to test signal.I got signal, via SDI, and got sound ( chose BM sound preference ) but got black screen. My 2 monitors ...got basic GUI of cs6 on monitor 1 and got full screen playback on monitor 2.Any insig

Hey guys - Admittedly, I am not great on the hardware side of things (nor am I looking to be, I just want to edit/render videos with ease and quick turn around, but recently learned about this system.  It is enticing to me and seems as though it would be suitable for editing video for a few years.  I like its portability because it would allow me to carry my workflow with me from jobsite to home or if I have to travel.  I understand that I have to purchase ram and ssd hard drive, which I'm ok with.Intel NUC 8 Premium VR Capable Mini PC Kit NUC8i7HVK - Newegg.com I will primarily be working with 1080p.Can I get some input form my fellow Adobe friends on this system?  I really want to avoid having to piece together a custom computer and this seems like a compromise.  Any suggestions on RAM or SSD Hard drive?Thanks in advance!!!Matt

My current spec- don't laugh - is an i7 2600, GT520, 16GB RAM, and 3 internal drives (128GB SSD, 1.5TB and 2TB). Its actually held up remarkably well for danged well nearly a DECADE, which is longer than I've ever owned any single computer and ever expected to. It actually still performs well enough for virtually all of my work even today, especially since I'm still working primarily in 1080p timelines, but I'm starting to shoot more footage in 4k since some of the more modern cameras do better in that scaled down to 1080 than they take in 1080p natively. With 4k, my system is finally showing its age, though. I'm wondering what I can do to improve performance without investing too much into this- I'm currently saving up for some camera gear which would actually improve my workflow, so anything over $500 might need to wait until later. Lately I have just been a slow down on my Desktop computer, which is equipped with an i7-5820K, GTX 1080, 32GB RAM, and many SSD's. Though my Laptop has an i7-7700HQ, 16GB RAM, and a GTX 1060. But when editing in either Premiere Pro, or After Effects, it feels that If doing things such as scrubbing on the timeline, doing renders on the timeline, and just previewing footage feels faster, and smootherFrom my Laptop, and I am unsure why? I know that my Laptop has a newer generation processor, which I get, but I don't think that would make much of a difference when compared to My Desktop. However, the only HUGE difference between my Desktop and Laptop is that my Laptop has a 250 GB PCIe SSD has the boot drive, and my Desktop just has an 850 Evo, however the Media is always being previewed from an External Hard Drive, or another internal 850 Evo. Lately I have tried doing everything that I could possibly think of to try and speed up the performance of my Desktop, which would be hard to list

So I just got hired into a hospital system as the AV coordinator. I have been given the liberty of upgrading the current editing station (Dell XPS) with the following specs:i7-4790 CPU 3.6Ghz16GB RAM1TB HDDRendering with this machine has been a pain. I just wanted to know what pre-built workstation would be best to purchase in 2018. Debating on Dells 7900, HP Z8, and or Alienware 51 (i9 X series). I have an entirely new PC. Specs:AMD Threadripper 1960x 16-coreGeforce GTX 8GB graphics card48gb DDR4 memory2x SSD Samsung EVO 500gbStill Premiere stutters while playing back. It stutters in 4K, but has the same exact stutter when editing HD or even lower.. There's definetely a problem in software or collaboration with one of my hardware parts.. Who has/had the same and can help me?!

I'm looking to buy a new PC laptop for Premiere Pro.  The NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics card is offered on a lot of new Core i7 machines, but I don't see that exact graphics card in Adobe's system requirements list.  Is their list not updated frequently?  Is it safe for me to assume that any new laptop with a Core i7 processor, any new NVIDIA GeForce graphics card, 16 GBs of RAM, etc... will be a good machine to run Premiere Pro on?[Moderator note: moved to best forum.]

Working on two separate projects with different types of footage, they both are causing the Premiere interface to be slow and laggy. Clicking the playhead on the timeline requires a half second to a second for the playhead to jump to that position...dragging clips lags behind the mouse by a second or two...it's making editing very difficult.I originally thought it was Lumetri effects but I have removed all effects from the timeline and the interface remains slow and laggy.I've also tried deleting all the Media Cache.The footage and Cache folder are on an SSD RAID which the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test puts at about 960 MB/sec read speed, so it can't be a media bottleneck.I'm on a Mac Pro 5,1 with OS 10.13.2, 96 GB RAM, 3.33Ghz 12-core, GTX 1080Ti, using OpenCL.[Moderator note: moved to Hardware forum hoping for help to OP.]

I work primarily in Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop. I have started using Dimension more recently as well. I would like to fluidly (as much as possible) be able to work with 3D spaces as well as the occasional 4k footage, which has caused my (NEW) workstation to crash on more than one occasion. First off my system consists of this:CPU: Core I7 8700KRAM: 32GB 2400MHz DDR4GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1080STORAGE:500GB  Crucial MX500 SSD (system and apps)500GB Samsung 970 Pro NVMe SSD (Premiere project & content)500GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD (scratch disk)I have a sub 2min 4K Premiere project with little more than Lumetri colour adjustments that is taking 1 hour 45 min to export in .mp4  and I'm seeing CPU performance bounce between 20 – 30%.I have tried Bill Gehrke's benchmarks as best I can given they're meant for PC not MAC. Unfortunately I can't create an output.csv to show exact results but it was pretty obvious it was the Disk test that was crazy slow (over 11 minutes). Bill Gehrke​Any suggestions?

Hi there,About six months ago I asked a question on these forums about Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2018 not importing video correctly, but the audio from the file worked fine. I was told by multiple people that not only does my computer not have enough RAM, but my processor is inadequate for the requirements to run the program. I've tried doing research on this and I do think that with an investment, it might be possible to change my processor and buy RAM so that I will be able to use the software. However, I wanted to double check here and make it super clear exactly what I'm looking to do. so i want to get a new computer. im looking at the 2011 21.5in imac. but im not sure if it will be good for video editing. here are the specs of the machine 201121.5 in screen sizeintel core i7 2.8ghz  8gb of ram (Should i upgrade the ram?) 1tb of hdd storage OS X High Sierrais this good enough for editing 1080p videos or should i look at something different. or just upgrade certain parts like ram  

Just building a new pc...and all over the Internet I keep reading and hearing about having multiple SSD's for OS, Scratch disks, Media and Project files etc. etc.But I'm curious has anyone ever actually tested this? Or is this just what everyone keeps telling everyone else?ie. I wonder if purchasing one high quality SSD and then a large Media Regular HDD...would effectively do just as well as these multi SSD setups?Has anyone here actually compared the performance?
