Appreciate that, but a support community with the 'correct answer' not being correct is kind of not helpful. Almost the opposite of what the support community is striving for! Also, this is NOT the correct answer!!! For me the link just directs to a list of adobe applications. When going down the help pages rabbit hole this kind of thing is sub-optimal. Also, does anyone know why it periodically switches back to the 'wrong' way? Been using Adobe for decades, this recent changing of my type preferences without me requesting it is infuriating. Thanks but not helpful at all to suggest to learn a new software because the current one decides to change a small but frequently used function. You are also assuming that another image editing software would not make any changes to its operating functionality that would impair productivity in future. I feel this is bad advice and a sorry attitude, basically saying suck up all the rubbish updates and if you can't go somewhere else, as opposed to questioning the validity, reasoning or purpose behind the change. It's just lazy and accepting of terrible UX. This is a change incidentally which makes it inconsistent to other Adobe software overnight and for no good reason. Hi this answer doesn't work for me as I work in various different agencies and can't be messing with code. Surely in preferences Adobe could help their users out by putting a little check-box for having this new function turned on or off? I'd like to introduce Adobe to a little saying that is helpful at times and would save their paying customers time: If it aint broke, don't fix it. I have now spent 30 minutes of my work day trying to revert this back so it matches my other software without success. What exactly drives these maddeningly un-intuitive 'developments'? Yes, I have set it in the Character Window and the Character Styles options Panel under Advanced Character Formats - it's called [Normal Character Style] not default though. I also changed the language in the [Normal Paragraph Styles] yet it still reverts to USA when I reopen the template file or create a new document using the UK option I created. My system and software are all up-to-date so I'm baffled by this! I really appreciate your help Monika, I'll try and engage an IT support service to see if there's anything they can suggest. Hi Monika, thanks for all your help so far. I'm still struggling however and wondering if it's because I'm using CC not an older version of Illustrator as the path to find the correct folder doesn't work for me. I've attached a picture of what I can see in my system window: I have found where to save a New Document Profile (see below). But when I create a new document, set all preferences and save it into this folder and open it from the Illustrator homescreen it defaults back to English: USA in the character pallet. I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the box but for a business that never uses English: USA it would be amazing if I could easily default to English: UK by just pressing a button!
