The problem I have is that I am composing all the pic in a A3 artwork, but as far as I have many pics before using it I want to have all stacked outside the artwork. When I drag them out I lost them. They go black. Regarding the option bar I can select the artwork in my layer panel but I do not have access to the option bar with the portrait or landscape symbol

This is a very beginner question but in the web I did not find the answer. How can I insert several pictures in the screen ,and stack them in the screen out of my paper work, so I can select one by one to make a composition an edit them in the paper work. As much as I intent this all the pics disappear whey I drag out of the paper work. And my second question how can I rotate the paper work between portrait and landscape.

I use illustrator to edit some PDF I original produce with CAD programs, like Archicad, Revit Autocad, Rhino... Sometimes this programs produce PDF with overlapped lines. Is there a way I can control this issue with filters containing tolerances to decide with lines I can erase.

Thank Doug, very useful method and very understanding blog for the use of color paint groups. Regarding my drawing, is there a way where I can separate first between the original fillings in grey (opacity 15%) of the strokes and then convert only the strokes (contours) to color live paint group and work with the contours?

Not exactly, I need to choose to select between the red line or the grey filling wich border is coincident with the red line. By the other hand how can you select the filling without selecting the borders, I place the white arrow on the filling and nothing happens.

I do the following 1 Embedded the drawing, I asume is the same that expand 2 Ungroup if so 3 Unclip mask 4 Create live color group. As I result I lost opacity is there a better way to do it? I enclose the file with what I am trying to do

Regarding the referenced questions Question number 1, no matter you use smart guides only snaps to the end of segments or intersection between smart guides, never to mid point. Can you confirm this? 2 I choose an object and select all with the same filling and selects all the drawing even lines with no fill ins. I can double click the selected magic wand and then what? 3 for question number 3 I wonder if there is. way to toggle the arrow and select between both entities like in other design programs you can do. I enclose image of what I am saying.

The problem is that I can only work with live paint if I convert the drawing to a live paint group, for that I must turn back the cut mask. Then I experience issues with the opacity, all those grey fillings (15% opacity) changes to black. Is there a way to solve it? I can save the file, do my work on another file and then copy and paste, but when you are in a hurry and you have to make many fillings this is quite annoying and risky.

I find live paint group very useful, but sometimes it doesn't work. I can't find out why sometimes it work and sometimes it doesn't. I am aware that it doesn't work with text and other entities but in this drawing I only have lines and fill ins. I enclose a screen shot.

I open a file and I can select some entities they are highlighted in blue, but when I try to identify like fill in or lines apparently they have no fill in nor line condition. Can anyone clarify this?

I am proficient user of other design programs and have a questions regarding the use of illustrator. 1. Does it have snaps point, so I can draw a line or an entity from the mid point of another entity? 2. Is it possible to use filters to select entities, like select entities with determined properties inside a selection window. This is very useful to select certain entities in a area of the drawing to change properties without changing the properties to all the same entities in the whole drawing. 3. How can I select a shaded area instead of boundary if they share their limits.
