Using latest version of Dreamweaver. Today, I successfully connected to the server via FTP within DW. Selected two folders of images to be uploaded into the Images folder on the server. There was no indication that either folder was put into the destination. Checked the FTP log, no data. Checked other folders around the Images folder to see if they went into the wrong one but not there either. Now, both folders appear to have been deleted from the Local files and are not in the Recycle Bin. Anyone experience this? Ideas where the folders might have gone? Never had anything like this happen before. Don't have a backup, as they were just created. Thanks for any info. DW Help was no help. Chris

In case anyone is interested, just read that MS has effectively set end of life dates for IE11 and Legacy Edge. Here's the link to the MS post: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-365-blog/microsoft-365-apps-say-farewell-to-internet-explorer-11-and/ba-p/1591666 And here's the link to the ZDNet article--which provides a few additional clarifications--that brought this news to my attention: https://www.zdnet.com/article/microsoft-outlines-its-ie-legacy-edge-phase-out-timetable/ Chris

I suspect you will be as thwarted trying to install CS4 as you were with your CS6 key. CS4 reached its end of life a long, long time ago, and any servers needed to finalize the installation that would have been active when CS4 was have long been turned off, for one, and for two, your current computer operating system will most likely not be compatible with the software and disallow the installation. For three, your CS6 key is unique to your copy of CS6--which also has basically passed end of life. Most likely, your only real option is a Creative Cloud subscription or switching to the free but bloated Brackets or maybe Wappler. Chris

Microsoft ceased support of Windows 8 in January 2018--two years ago--which is why the error message is being received. Your user would best be advised to upgrade to the current Windows 10 which is constantly upgraded to combat trojans and other malware. Chris

Check the file extensions for the pages in your Expressions created website. Unless the extensions are proprietary to Expressions, any HTML, PHP, et al documents should be editable using Dreamweaver. Follow the rules to define your website in Dreamweaver and then copy the Expression files to that folder. Chris

Os, I cast my mind back to when I was playing with One Drive, and I think the reason I didn't do more with it was for the same "slow" assessment you cite. And I also seem to recall that it didn't like large files. Now, WeTransfer is great for sharing larger files or even whole projects. Use it all the time. Chris

Saving your files to the desktop may make it easier to find them, but be careful if you do because it may also wreck havoc with your system. The best practice I was given to understand a long time ago is to use the desktop only for shortcuts, especially if you are Mac OS because of how the computer maps and remembers pathways. As for my DW projects, I have one folder ("Websites") on my desktop hard drive in which all current projects reside. Each project, in turn, is separate folder ("Client-Name") within that primary one and will contain subfolders to organize any files I wish to keep that are not required for the active website ("Archive," "NewContent_ddMmmyyyy" e.g.). And the folder holding the files for the active website is the one named in the site definition (usually some form of the URL). Everything is backed up onto one or more external drives and/or CDs or DVDs. (I like the latter two options because the discs can be formatted for "Read Only," thus preventing accidental overwriting.) I also duplicate the PC folder on a laptop in the event of an in person client meeting or need to update a site while away on vacation. I have sort of half-heartedly played with One Drive, but I confess I rarely think of trying to use it. Chris

Every hosting service generally offers the same functionality in several configurations to meet a client's needs. I have successfully placed clients and managed their sites with NewTek, HostMonster, and NetworkSolutions. Have also worked with GoDaddy as a hosting service. There are many others, and I encourage you to do some research and due diligence in order to find one that suits your needs and fits your budget.

I do not specifically recall what I wrote originally, but the gist of it was a) there should be some available guide to help forum members figure out how to use the new interface and b) that the default "relevance" listing order was no different than "latest" posts [each started out with the OP "welcome" post and the next was dated August 12th--later explained by you that posts for a certain period had been lost]. Later, I also posted a reply to WolfShade's OP about the forum which is not here. Can't recall now, but there may have been a day between my reply of the 12th and the one to WolfShade.

On my first visit after the changeover, I posted two replies to the overly cheerful "Welcome" post. To my knowledge, neither ever made it to publication. Was I too critical? I don't think so. Mainly complained that the "new" forum was not intuitive to use (and that some sort of manual or guide would be helpful) and that switching from "relevance" to "latest" returned the exact same listings--with the latest being the "welcome" message followed by one from August 20th, as I recall. I shall give it some time, but in all honesty, the way the forum is today does not entice me to be a participant. Chris

I posted two comments yesterday on this thread, Peran, and I still don't see them. Am I to surmise that due to their critical nature of the new forum that the administaters chose not to approve?

I do not know the quality or quantity of the current tutorials, but you might try Lynda.com. It has always offered an excellent library of tutorials for a plethora of programs. You may find something there that meets your needs. Just know, however, that Lynda is not a free service, but it won't hurt to check it out. Chris

Elena, I apologize for the tardiness in responding to your specific request of me. I just saw it today. I expect to be logged into the forum each time I visit, and periodically the sign in is automatically logged off. I don't always notice when that happens, as I don't post/respond very much, just mainly read and learn. In any case, Nancy O'Shea answered the question you posed to me, and you can trust every word she writes in this forum. Chris

Elena, My guess is that the servers which were once operational to finalize permanent license software registrations/installations have long been shut down, meaning there is no way to validate either of your known serial numbers to activate the installation. Both CS4 and GoLive are extremely old. In fact, I'd be surprised if current operating systems would even allow either to run. To get an active version of Dreamweaver on your new computer you may likely have only the option of a Creative Cloud subscription. From what little you wrote, I suspect a CC subscription would be overkill for your purposes and skill level. If I am wrong and you are an adept hand coder, there are other options you can explore as you don't really need something like Dreamweaver--which in its current incarnation is light years different from the CS4 you know and be a steep learning curve for you. If you are not a good hand coder, you may want to migrate to one of the free web building platforms like Wix or Squarespace. Chris

If you haven't already, you might want to try using an earlier installed version of DW CC which allowed you to use the Extend extensions without difficulty. Chris

My guess is that the reason your installations do not verify is that the Adobe servers which originally operated the verification process have been permanently retired. (That's how old those versions are.) Without being able to close that loop, your installations fail. Likely, your only recourse is to choose one of the subscription plans Adobe now offers. Chris

Did you try doing a global [entire current site] find/replace? Open, say your index.html page--you only need open one page, any one will do--, highlight and copy the relevant portion of the copyright phrase, then Command-F to open the Find dialogue box. Select the Find/Replace option, and paste the clipboard text in the "replace" area. Edit that to change 2018 to 2019. Set the function to be applied to entire current site, and commit the action. That will permanently change each unopened page automatically, but you will need to save the open document to commit the change. Chris

It likely depends upon what your current computer operating system is. If you are running Windows 10 or the latest or fairly recent Mac OS, there is a good possibility that your operating system will not be compatible with CS3. If you are still running an older system, the answer is still maybe, yet again unlikely, because the install process will attempt (and fail) to connect with Adobe servers that have been retired. The reason it stays fixed is that you have not coded any media queries or styles that establish how to handle the image. What you do have is four linked css files which show html code but no style codes, and the css you did embed in the head of the index file contains nothing that tells the browser how to handle to your image. Out of curiosity is there some reason you included all of the conditionals for earlier versions of IE? I personally wouldn't bother because of how old they are. Chris

OK, so I opened the documents up on my laptop using ID 2017. "W" weights were all perfectly normal. Opened it up on my desktop using ID 2018, and again the "w" weights were perfectly fine and on the exported PDFs. So, I've uploaded those PDFs to the publisher and now await its proof to see if all is well. Weights using ID 2017 on my desktop are still "weak," so I guess we all know what's going to happen to that installation. 🙂

Thanks for the reply. No, the "w" weight looks different in InDesign, on the PDF that was submitted to the publisher, and on the PDF proof that the publisher returned. Someone suggested that I test the document on another computer, which I'm going to do as soon as I can get the programs and document to load. Will keep you posted.
