I have the exact same issue with different MacBooks on different screens. It seems to be a very common problem (which Adobe, as usual, doesn’t care to fix). I know at least three people with the same issue. Deactivating the GPU, as mentioned, helps. However, you don’t have to deactivate it in your preferences. You can leave it activated and press Shift + E to switch between CPU and GPU Preview. This is my workaround until I restart InDesign. The bug seems to be triggered when InDesign is open while connecting a second screen. Restarting InDesign with the screen already connected should fix it, but sometimes you don’t want to restart, so Shift + E is a helpful alternative. Wouldn’t hope for a fix anytime soon. As usual, you just need to find workarounds to deal with Adobe’s broken software.

If you don't have access to the original vector logo, I recommend trying https://vectorizer.ai/. It isn't free, though. Unfortunately, it is much better than Illustrator's auto trace, especially for logo files or anything with precise lines. In Illustator you always need to fix so many anchors, that most of the time it's easier to just redraw a logo by hand.

When hovering over the "InDesign" menu (top of the screen), you can see “Preferences” as expected. However, when you hover over “File” or any other menu item and go back to"InDesign", the entry “Preferences” disappears, as shown in the screen capture. I thought I was going crazy as I couldn’t find my preferences until I realized that this is a glitch.
The “About InDesign” option also disappears.
I am using the newest Sonoma version 14.5 (23F79) and InDesign 19.4 on a MacBook Pro M3 Max. The bug is reproducible on a MacBook Pro M3 Pro running Sonoma version 14.1.2. <Title renamed by moderator>

If a similar problem with Variable Fonts via my Monotype Fonts subscription. Fonts work fine in InDesign 2023. In 2024 the fonts are missing and when adjusting any parameter of any variable font it breaks.

I have the same issue on different machines (all Macs) with multiple versions of Acrobat. It's an old bug that seems to get triggered (or is at least more likely to get triggered) by using an external display or unusual resolutions. My Acrobat Pro is on Version 2023.006.20320. I'm using a MacBook Pro 16" 2019 (2,4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB, Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB, 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4) running MacOS 13.5.2 (22G91) and a LG 28MQ780 (SDQHD 2560x2880) 16:18 display. All of this does not matter, as I encountered this problem on many different machines running different versions. And if Amal. is still watching this thread: no I won't reinstall or reboot or do as any of those copy+paste answers request. It's a bug, which existed for years. Please let the engineer fix it. There must be at least one engineer, who uses a Mac at Adobe.

huid31332308 Seems to work for me as well! Thank you! The CEPHtmlEngine Helper (there are still multiple; the one with the highest percentage) now needs about 6-7% with some higher peaks as of now. Hope what ever you did will end in the next update. francob2k I still can access the CC Libraries in PS, AI and InDesign after the hotfix.

I'm having the same problem with InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. I'm using OSX. The only solution I know of at the moment is to shut down all processes called "CEPHtmlEngine" (not CEPHtmlEngine Helper; those will shut down with the CEPHtmlEngine) by using the Activity Monitor.

Thank you huid31332308 for asking! The CPU load rises immediately after launching InDesign and stays between 80–100+ until I shut down the task or the application. JensSeidel You need to kill the task "CEPHtmlEngine" not the "Helper". When I shut down the CEPHtmlEngine the Helper shuts down with it. When i try to kill the "CEPHtmlEngine Helper" it always starts again within a second. Also It could be a problem with the german version of CC…

@JensSeidel Do you know when the problem occurred to you the first time? I'm pretty sure I see this behavior since the last few days. The only way at the moment seems to kill the CEPHtmlEngine right after launching the application and avoid restarting it. Annoying but certainly less of a hassle than reinstalling the applications multiple times without any effect.

@Steve Werner As you can see in my screenshots one of those processes always need extreme cpu usage (above 100%). You can hear the fans of the laptop going wild until I kill the process with the Activity Monitor. After killing it the fans go silent. Besides the fan noises it lowers the performance of my whole system and drains the battery. There is something going on there. Also these processes doesn't seem to be necessary at all as I can kill them right after launching the applications and they won't restart themselves.

Here is a screenshot oft the CEPhtmlEngine task after launching InDesign: It does constantly use above 100% CPU usage when InDesign is focused (it get's below 100% when it is minimized). This has only begun for me recently… maybe since a week ago. Everytime I startk InDesign I have to manually shut down the CEPhtmlEngine via Activity Monitor. I'm using CC2015.2 (InDesign 11.2.0.99) on OSX 10.11.3 on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15", Late 2013), 2,6 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. EDIT: The problem also occurs after opening other CC2015.2 applications: Here a screenshot just after opening Illustrator CC 2015.2: Here after opening Photoshop CC2015.2: Interestingly the tasks also shows up (with just below 100% CPU usage) after opening AfterEffects CC 2015.2 but disappears after the new splash screen / opening dialogue is closed (doesn't help with the other applications like PS, AI or InDesign): Could it be GUI related? It certainly never happened to me before the updated GUI.
