I am assuming that your media exists on your local hard drive - if it doesn't that is already an issue Try moving the media for this session to another location (it wouldn't hurt to make a backup of the session just in case) and then try and open the session. If the session opens then close it without saving the session and then copy SOME of the audio back to the original location. What generally happens in this case is that there has been some "issue" - usually a local one eg a crash or system reboot or (insert whatever...). Then what happens is that when you (not necessarily you) open the session and a message pops up saying (and I don't recall exactly) something like there is an existing 'previous' file or session and do you want to continue or delete it. Now this is where you do two crucial things... 1. Backup the sesx file you are attempting open as well as any and all automatic backups 2. You answer 'delete' - yes this is counter-intuitive but to continue is where it all can turn to custard as the state of that 'previous' session is unknown and in some sort of nether region of memory and while continuing 'looks' like all is well it generally is not and this is where the session can get corrupted and eventially all of your backups. This may or may not be your circumstance so YMMV but it is certainly a situation that has reared its ugly head in the past. The lesson here - if you are working on a session that is of some importance (and aren't they all?)  then back it up (locally and remotely but not cloud related) before and after you work on it (with different names obviously!) and do NOT rely on anyone else including Adobe (not because you can't trust Adobe to do so but this way you can only blame yourself). AAF is a joke that AVID played on the Audio community and they are the only ones laughing. I've been interrogating and converting AAFs since the late 1990s and I still come across rougue AAF variants. A simple google search will show you just how many daws can't open AAFs from other daws and even if they do either one of them won't fully support the details contained within (if they even contain them at all). If Adobe was to even try and meaningfully support AAF they will not only be digging a whole and throwing all their development funds down it but they will then find that the posts on this forum will be filled with the complaints of unsuspecting fools screaming about all the things they haven't covered or that don't work. DO NOT have your session (and more importantly your media) on an external drive 2. Have your session (and more importantly your media) on the fastest internal drive available 3. Don't for one minute think that there is any such thing as a 'standard' AAF so which version of AAF - ProTools, Media Composer, DaVincie, Premiere, etc, etc? AAF is a self proclaimed standard that never should have been created. Sure, the container format is always a standard but the methods for describing data within the container are not. They each have multiple ways of describing the same thing and since everyone has a slightly different way of doing things within the containers to call it any kind of standard is crazy. While OMF, being literally a format within a container format, is bad enough, AAF and MXF are much worse because they are a format within a container within a structured storage format.
