May depend on how you're 'importing' a video. How mb-large is the video your importing? If you import it as 'event', it isn't actually imported 'into' the project, it's an external link (and thus, the video would have to be distributed with the published project). If you're doing that, the file size of the project shouldn't increase much at all. If you're importing it as a multi-slide vido, however, you are actually importing the video into the project and it's taking up significant tineline space, likely across multiple slides. That's great for timing other objects to video progress, but definitely increases the size of the overall project. Best solution is to put the video on a streaming server and use a webobject to reference and load-in that video...except you lose direct timing between the video and other screen elements.

To the main question, if you want to convert an MP3 to an MP4, you could use Captivate - import the audio track to the first slide, run it the duration of the timeline...and have the stage be small/nothing, or add an image, or series of images along the timeline... Then publish as MP4. If you want the MP3 to be an MP4 *before* you bring it in to Captivate, you need to use some other program. If you have Creative Cloud, you could certainly use Premiere. But there are other 'conversion' tools out there, though be wary of spyware.

Agreed. I've not seen this before and I would suspect something with the PPT deck. For example, if you edit an image in Photoshop that has perfectly reasonable screen dimensions (i.e. 800x600) but is at 300 DPI (as opposed to 72 or 90), the image is going to render HUGE on a web browser due to that DPI. I'm not sure if there's something similar in PPT but maybe. How about making a copy of the project, remove the PPT emeds, and replace with two example screens where you simply copy/paste two slides of content from PPT into those CP slides, publish, and test. Still huge? Likely something with the PPT content itself. Not huge? Something funky with the PPT settings (like, maybe it was designed at a Large size but is being viewed at a scaled-down 50% in PPT itself so it's not noticable? I think you can save PPT as HTML, no? Right from PPT Save-As...? If so, maybe try that and load from a generic webserver and see if the same issues persist?

First question, with what product does the TD group use? For example, I'm pretty sure InDesign can create some pretty nice, and even somewhat interactive, HTML output. If that's what the team is using, you could possibly load that output into your CP shell, then create more complex interactivities around it, then publish as a full lesson. Or just do a lot of copy/paste but that's a maintenance nightmare. Creating a standardization document is not only a great idea but a critical one! Good call.

You're not relying on the LMS to make the launch but is your custom system using the imsmanifest file at all? If so, then Rod's reply above could be spot-on on the Flash aspect. I'm still unsure how the JSON capabilities of the server affect a CP project, but it sure can't hurt to ensure your Windows server has JSON support enabled. Otherwise, if your system is definitely launching the index.html file, then it should HTML. So next question is, how are you embedding the PPTs into CP? A direct import...? And the project plays as expected when previewed? Or are you loading them as, perhaps, a webObject?

Well, I'm not sure that's quite accurate, is it? I mean, if you setup the project as described (correctly) above, in Captivate, then publish to SCORM. The PDF should be moved to the created .zip folder automatically, and thus when you upload the .zip SCO, the LMS will unpack it and the PDF will be there as expected... ...right? Or does CSOD do it differently? Why unzip, place the PDF, and re-zip...when you have to edit the CP project to place the proper path for the PDF in the project, then republish (to SCORM/zip) anyway?

Not to deflate any sails, but this is a good point. 'Rollover' type interactives really should be avoided entirely if the project will be available on a mobile device (phone/tablet). There's really not a huge difference between 'click to show' and 'rollover to show'...so in all our projects that call for such things, we use 'click to show' instead of rollover just to avoid any possible difficulties with mobile devices. Otherwise, yes, this is a good solution...as long as you can properly time the duration the rollovers stay visible on the screen, as needed

Once you navigate to the PDF via the 'Open URL' option, navigate to the PDF on your machine (making sure its in the root or subfolder of the directory where you're published project will go), then when you 'ok' and you see the path in the dialog...edit it so it's just ./nameof.pdf or ./subdirectory/nameof.pdf Publish and see if that works (you may still get an alert cause a web-based project is trying to open a file on your local machine)

The start of the mouse path is based on the end point of the mouse path on the previous slide. If there is no mouse on the previous slide, I believe the mouse will either start from top-left by default, or possibly from where the cursor was last show on any previous slide that did display the mouse (though I'm pretty sure it's the first; top-left). You have to be sure 'show cursor' is enabled for any slide you want the cursor to be visible, and in order for the mouse path to be shown. Right click the slide in the filmstrip and check the cursor/mouse options. Caption show/hide timings are dependent on the start/stop times of those objects on the timeline. If you need the second caption to delay a bit longer so the first can finish displaying, move that second caption object further down the timeline.

I believe AME is waiting for you to select a preset. Select a preset with an MP4 output option then hit the 'convert' (or 'go' or whatever the action button is) and the video should convert, then take you back to Captivate. If it's not that easy, then lookup how to use Adobe Media Encoder. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I've not had to do this process in a long while. For past several years, I've ensured all videos I bring into CP are already MP4 - for one reason, to avoid this process entirely (plus, it happens *every time* you publish which is a huge time waster). I recommend using AME, or whatever video production/conversion too you prefer, to convert any non-MP4 videos to MP4, then import them into the CP project and get rid of those non-MP4 videos from your library entirely.

I don't think Adobe has improved Captivate's built-in support for streaming since moving away from Flash Video. There's a discussion here from a couple years ago but that was limited to (iirc) FLV. More recently when I've needed streaming video in a CP project, I've used the Web Object to load the actual video URL from our streaming server...but yeah, the timeline is still not interlaced with the performance at all. If the video pauses, the timeline has no idea and keeps playing. Fortunately, with the streaming server, such interruptions are rare. You could try a similar approach by possibly uploading the video to a private YouTube channel and use CP's YouTube widget and see if performance is at least better...but that won't resolve the lack of sync between it and the CP timeline

Can you play the videos from your server, directly, outside of the project? Do they perform the same way? Video is bandwidth-intensive, especially large files. If the server does not actively support video streaming, your video only plays at the speed the download can handle. Flash had a decent preload system. HTML does not yet (that i'm aware of). You're going to be pretty dependent on bandwidth and server capabilities for any decent performance. (this is not any sort of official Adobe response )

This is an LMS option/setting (per SCORM). As others have stated, CP will send the score when it's completed. It's up to your LMS settings to determine how to behave on the course - take first score and set course to 'review only', then subsequent takes shouldn't save the score to the LMS...but depends on how the LMS handles it. I'm pretty sure there's no way to force the CP project itself to determine whether the score should be passed or not based on a previous result.

Video in itself, for now, is not 'interactive'. To do what you want, you need some sort of overlay on top of the video to be clickable. That overlay used to be done via Flash. I would't do that anymore with Flash/SWF support being dropped. So now the way to do that is with HTML overlay. Pretty sure that's how YouTube does it. Camtasia can likely do it with HTML output, just be sure not to use the SWF output. Adobe Edge, similarly, can definitely be used to output with such HTML layover. (as others have mentioned, just illustrating more the underlying requirements/solutions)

"i cant see it anywhere" You mean you can't see the audio layer on the timeline? That seems odd... If you CAN, bump the audio up a bit on the timeline and save as a new file, then export. If that works, just pushing forward the timing of the audio track - great, just be sure it's in a duplicate file so it doesn't affect all the other versions on later publishing. If you can't see the audio track for some reason, and can't figure out how to adjust it at all in the course, two options: 1. Create a new project with the same overall project settings. Copy/paste all the content from the original into the new file, save, and publish. Maybe it's just something odd in the original file throwing off the timing, which happens. 2. Open the published video in something like Camtasia or Premiere and adjust the audio track to the video (i.e. bump the video track up a little) and republish the video. In other words, adjust the A/V sync in post-production

Agreed with the previous reply - the first step is always to put together a portfolio so you can show examples of you work. Doing so for your church, or whatever group, organization, etc. that you have insight and experience with is good. Maybe your employer also needs help with fliers, posters, or their website that you can volunteer your services for. Once you have some decent examples (and even including just 'art' that you like, if it applies)....then knock on doors. Maybe visit other churches - asking if they need any help with their website or fliers (i.e. I help my church design their twice-annual charity auction/potluck fliers - very simple, but being able to give them a nice layout as a PDF for the printer is appreciated).... Side-hustles take a lot of work and networking, don't expect paying jobs quickly...but you may get lucky!

I agree with Rod, but I'm also curious why Cornerstone would even ask that... so i searched and there is apparently a 'launch type' parameter associated with SCORM in some way. I think this is SCORM Cloud/engine specific, but I'm not sure. i've not see it in the imsmanifest for a typical SCORM course and, again, I agree with Rod that this is more likely an LMS setting (though if so, Cornerstone should know that). Here are a couple links to review, maybe they'll give a clue?
