Well I'm back! - Thanks again for helping me so far. I've just spent several hours on this again - and right at the end....RESULT! Here's what I did today; I disconnected every device attached to the computer, stream deck, hard drives, label printer... everything. I rebooted in safe mode I deleted or turned off all virus guards etc... the one I use is 'Bitdefender' it's worked flawlessly with Adobe until now. Booting in safe mode today anyway - so these apps weren't turned on from the start. I created a new LRC catalogue. And then 'nothing' as usual.... BUT..... I did get that error again a couple of times: AgPathUtils.getStandardFilePath: can't create directory at: /Users spiketrain/Movies. Error message = %@ SO.... (in case you care and are actually still reading this....) 'spiketrain' is obviously my home folder.... and I'm not sure what 'movies' has to do with anything... and the error message =%@ means nothing to me. All permissions, for every account are read/write. But this time I decided to go into the spiketrain folder to look at 'Movies' to see why it would be 'a thing'. There wasn't a folder there called 'Movies' but there was a file called Movies. It was a locked alias file..... with 65 bytes of size. There was a 'Music' one too. I'd never noticed them before so I deleted them. And, as soon as I did, everything worked again! Thanks again for helping me guys - it was a weird one. I'm not sure I really understand what happened... but it only took me days of work to fix it! I'm a bit annoyed with myself, coz the image I posted right at the start of the thread mentions this 'Movies' folder/file thing and I had completely ignored it.

Yes! - did this. And I was indeed able to import without issue - when I was 'someone else'. Also able to import in the main catalog. So we're getting there!

Thanks again @Ian Lyons . I've just gone into Finder and put all permissions to read and write as instructed. I right clicked the folders and selected get info.... then chose read & write for all - then I wiped the LR folder above in Caches. No dice! Still unresponsive. Must.... go..... deeper! (Except I don't really want to of course!) Please don't give up on me!

Also - here's some additional info... I did create another user for my Mac. Then signed in and opened LRC and it worked! - So I can import photos / videos provided I'm logged in as someone else on my IMac! I'm sure that'll help you guys to know. Also, this trouble started to happen round about the time I installed the Beta version of Photoshop with AI etc. - Not sure there's a connection, but thought I'd mention.

Well.... it seems as though everyone has left me! - I could really do with someone with a bit more internal knowledge of weird system hiccups like this. I'm not overly excited about the kind of solutions that suggest things like 'wipe everything you've ever seen from your machine then start entering raw code into it using deep programming language! - I actually just need the import photos button to work!

Thanks so much for these tips. I've tried some of them so far... a little hesitiant to wipe my entire Creative Cloud stuff off my machine since I have so many personal preferences and plugins etc. - So it'll be a horrible event to have to go through that. Everything I've tried so far has been no help.... It really is an unusual one. Can't find anyone, anywhere else with this same issue. I have been able to import images by either using the same catalog on my laptop or the auto-import feature which does still work. I'm really hampered with this. Every other menu and action inside LRC seems to be working fine.

Hi @DdeGannes - I just tried this and a bunch of other things. It just doesn't do anything. There's no dialogue box opening, no change in the screen at all.... meanwhile, the rest of the app continues to work fine.

Oh... actually it isn't actually greyed out... (sorry thought it was!) - In any case.... nothing happens! - The option to import is completely turned off! - Never seen it before anywhere... and there don't appear to be any threads around with other people complaining about this... so it looks like I'm the only one in the world!

Hi team... and thanks John. Here's an update today: I ensured that LRC has full disk access. It does. It always has. So here's what I did today: I shut everything down and I opened the LRC catalog on my laptop instead of desktop (my entire catalog file architecture is saved to a SanDisk 4TB Extreme which I connected to the laptop first). Everything came up fine - and I can import images in this catalog on my laptop... yay! - So we're getting somewhere. Back to my iMac and I unistalled LRC completely then reinstalled it. I checked disk access and all preferences were re-set. I then unplugged all my external drives (I have 8 or 9) and rebooted. Then I created a competely new catalog with no images in it. And I'm still unable to import. You can see it greyed out in this screenshot So this is definately a tricky one! - There's something going on that I haven't considered... it looks like it's hardware related... but I can't be sure... what would it be, do you think, that would prevent this basic and intrinsic part of the app from activating at all? - I'm scuppered!

Hi, My Lightroom Classic has been behaving reasonably well until today. Now I can't import photos - at all. When I select File/Import Photos and Video it just does nothing at all. No splash screen, no dialogue box... nothing. Here's what I've tried before I came to you guys: 1. I restarted the computer 2. I created a new Catalog with no photos from scratch... I did at least get this error when I did this: So at least there was that. I then went into the library folder and checked all permissions for all operators on this machine... IE me! - and I checked they were all set to read/write. I restarted again and - just nothing. I can't drag images into the thumbnail grid view from Finder.... and I can't.... well do anything else! Everything else currently seems to work ok. No new photos in my catalog... or any catalog for me!

Thanks very much for explaining this. It doesn't really help since I can save collections in sets in LRC - so it behaves like folders in that way.... and I can save collections in actual folders in Adobe PS LR. - so I can mimick the set names in LRC with the folder names in LR and then things look roughly the same in both apps - but my whinge was that I shouldn't have to do this at all... If I save a collection in a set in LRC then it makes sense that both the collection and the set that I put it in should appear the same in LR. I get that it doesn't work.... my gripe was that it should.

Hi, Wondering if the glorious community will come to my aid! I'm using the HSL secondary feature in Lumetri - but it's not selecting the area I've zeroed in on - it still changes the colour settings for the entire video. I recorded me trying it here..... can anyone spot what I'm doing wrong? All the best.... and many thanks in advance

Thank you so much Conrad C - a very thorough reply. So, basically, although I HAVE to keep using Classic because it does things that Photoshop LR can't do... I am effectively penalised by Adobe for not migrating over fully to one platform. Even though I pay them epic tons of money every year for their services and need both LRC and LR. I mean I DO get it... that they appear to be literally creating (and then holding) a dichotomy in their hands of sizable proportion with both these diverent apps.... but Adobe also are not a small company, and Lightroom is not a niche app for a few people... so I would be inclided to say to them 'fix this now please!' especially since I (and presumeably thousands of others around the world) are having to do these work arounds every day because of this bi-app existence that they themselves created. And meantime, I can't find my images on a standard keyword search using my phone! - It's madness! If it took a team of programmers two years of coding to re-write the system from the ground up (which it surely wouldn't do) it would still be an investment going forward for Adobe - and then we could have one program that did both jobs. I simply can't see why this isn't an urgent goal for them. It's especially frustrating for me becuase I originally came from the Apple Aperture system which completely screwed me when Apple decided that it wouldn't continue with the program. I had to take all my images and completely re order and re-do everything... it was a huge undertaking and one I'm still suffering from now seven years later.

You can of course put photograph collections in an 'organised folder structure' - and to prove it.... in both Lightroom Classic and Adobe Lightroom, I do so here if you're interested. Hi Guys! - Please help me iron out my slightly maddening workflow! Context... Adobe have two apps that they both call 'Lightroom'. In my opinion this is already a bit of a head scratcher to me! Well... Lightroom Classic is always called Lightroom Classic... but Lightroom is sometimes called Adobe Photoshop Lightroom... other times it's called Lightroom Mobile... and on my phone, it's just called Lightroom. I do however undertand both these apps (mostly). I use them both and I need them both. I've fallen a few times into some weird places regarding the differences between these two programs. For example... if you create a collection in LR Classic, put it in an organised folder structure and sync it to the cloud then it syncs with Photoshop LR.... IE LR Mobile. The only thing is that you then need to go into PS LR Mobile and then re-create the folder structure. If you don't then the new collection will just appear flat in the directory and you won't be able to find it. This is to say that images will sync across both apps - but the single file structure you've created in Classic won't. I'm dealing with this... but am happy to take advice if you think I'm missing a trick here. Also for context it might help to know that I'm a photographer and have a current catalogue of over 120,000 images - with many hundreds of personalised synced collections in my library. Proper filing is important. Which is why, I currently make the effort to create folders twice each time to get over this odd 'feature'. I'm happy to keep doing this I guess. I find the naming of indivdual people using facial recognition quite a laborious process since it slows the computer down - despite the speed of my computers at home, it always seems to take too long to populate this feature... so I use people's names in the Keyword Tags part of each picture's metadata. This works with great success and I have a very detailed (and much needed) keyword search habit when I'm trying find a particular image or collate a certain person's shots over a period of years etc. But this does not seem to transfer to my collections if I choose to view or search for specifics within PS LR Mobile. There is occasional keyword data on some of my images viewable in LR Mobile, but, if I sync them first, then add the keywords later, as I often do, then these won't sync. If I DO choose to use the facial recognition thing, well this doesn't sync either! - I've Googled this and have had it explained to me that (for some reason) Adobe already know about this and have no interest in syncing the data that is stored along with the image. Mini rant... This makes no sense to me. It's like going to a restaurant and choosing a table in the garden. You order pie and fries. The waiter delivers a plate with a pie on it. You enquire 'where are the fries' to which the waiter replies 'no fries in the garden dude'. Then, everyone seems to be okay with this arrangement and you pay for the full mean on leaving. I'm really NOT okay with this. Rant over. I have thousands of images uploaded - which are synced with my library back home which is efficiently designed to be searchable. I was at an event the other day and I ran into someone.... I said 'hey! - I've got some great shots of you from a few years back, let me find them'. I pulled out my phone and typed their name into the search field. No results. When I got home and did the same thing in LR Classic... there they all were - in a folder, online and synced with LR Mobile - but without the name. SO can someone please a). explain why Adobe think this is not really worth fixing... I'm really curious! - and then b). help me with a workaround please! I basically (it seems) need a 're-sync' button where it carries keyword data across after I've changed something. This oversight is currenly affecting thousands of my images... so I really do need a fix please. Sorry I waffled on, hope it was mildy interesting for you... I'm a logical context person!

Here's the video I promised of the process - hopefully clear enough. Any confusions from here for anyone... then do let me know, I've fallen in most of the pitfalls on this one by now surely! - so my learnings might be useful for someone else. I include some of the background as to why I choose multicam. I have a friend that also does these videos - and he had not been using multicam, as a result, he had some colour grading and synching issues further down the line.... so I have no interest in trying to manage multiple tracks on a timeline without first timing them up in multicam. The only problem I experienced is that, when you do this, track mattes don't work (amongst other anomolies). But by creating a multicam track in a nested sequence, you can overcome! All the best!

Guys! I cracked it! It's a pretty complicated process of course. I'll do another video and show (those who care) how it's done. In short... . IE spoiler before I do a video.... The reason I think it didn't work was because I'm using a multicam track which is a bit 'squiffy' sometimes with stuff like this. So the fix is to nest the track with something else... then to track matte that. It's really exciting!..... if you're a bit of a geek like me that is. Not seen it done anywhere else.

Thanks for the tip Neil! Tried it... didn't work.... It's definately an alpha channel requirement here And to be clear, I tried the PNG option on the video I made AFTER I'd already created a colour matte track above the image and masked it to the correct outline - so I make that two different ways of representing a shape with an alpha channel that the track matte mask should have adhered to... So yeah... still stumped... and this isn't the first time I've been through this - the first time it happened I just gave up!

Am I wrong? / Am I missing something? - I'm seeing the solution here... and have set up keyboard shortcuts to zoom in/out/fit the program monitor whilst editing... but the keyboard shortcuts only work if the blue line 'focus' is around the monitor at the time. So I'm working away on the timeline and I'm using my keyboard and ShuttlePro and trying to reduce mouse clicks - hence the point of keyboard shortcuts.... but I can't use this shortuct (and quite a few others too) without doing some clicking first (IE to change focus). There is a keyboard shortcut to 'toggle source monitor focus' too - so I set up my Stream Deck to apply this shortcut first, and then the zoom in/out/fit commands afterwards (IE a multi button shortcut sequence for all three actions).... but this doesn't seem to work very often since the focus isn't always in the same place each time I activate the shortcut sequence. IE the focus has to be in exactly the same place each time otherwise the first instruction to focus on program monitor just toggles past it. Am I right?
