Hello Illustrator Community, I am attempting to do this text effect, but with a transparent background: Illustrator Tutorial: How to Create a Neon Text Effect - Illustrator Tutorials - Vectorboom Since it uses a gradient mesh and color dodge to get the effect, and since I couldn't figure out a way to use this with a transparent background I figured I would just create a gradient on text and add some neon effects and now I am not finding an easy way to change the entire text into a gradient color. I can only change the front and the added custom shading color options only allow for solid colors and not gradients. I've added strokes to the text so hoping that I don't have to start from scratch in order to be able to change to a gradient. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks so much!

Thank you so much Barbara! I've figured out how to add the gradient into the stroke, but can't quite figure out how to create a new brush that allows me to paint with a gradient. I'm not sure how I was doing this before yet, but happy now with this fix!

Just yesterday I was using a gradient stroke with a brush in illustrator and now it has gone back to filling with black. I have searched everywhere and it says that you are not able to do this, but I promise that it was happening somehow. I erased all of the strokes thinking I could continue and that this was a new feature, so I don't have evidence. Does anyone have the best way to paint with gradients? I've seen the step where it says to group, use pathfinder etc. and even if I could get this to work for me I am hoping there is some new feature that allows it that I stumbled on for a moment. Thanks for any help!

Hi Steve, Thanks! So when I trace in Photoshop using the pen tool After Effects and then what do I do to make them look drawn onto the screen again? I haven't used AE in a while and I"m rusty!

I realize this is very basic, but sometimes basic is difficult in Photoshop! I need to make the loops in this image clean and change the color, I lost the original file? I will probably end up recreating the logo, but is there an easier way? It's a scanned image and is blotchy. If I recreate it would you suggest photoshop or illustrator for making these arrows?

Thanks Kyle and Roel, Here are the loops. I am trying to figure out how to recreate each of the arrows that make up the loops so they appear on the screen as if they were drawn on, and the one with frayed edges to be drawn emerging out once the frayed edges appear on the screen in some fashion. This is not a vector image yet. Appreciate the personal help, have gone through tutorials and can't find the right one!

Hello AE Forum, I have a logo of three loops that are cut off in the middle with arrows and that have frayed edges, and I am wondering what the best way to have this appear as if it were drawn on the screen so that it is exact.
