In my case I was compositing a bunch of mostly still images, and I didn't realize that the aspect ratio would be set to whatever random resolution of the first image I dropped into the timeline. So then when you go in and change it in Sequence Settings, you have to manually reposition every single image clip so that they look right. Quite a painful mistake, and it seems like producing media for different aspect ratios is something people would need to do?

Rather than positioning the items and rotating them into place, if you place the beginning and the end items exactly where you want them along the line, then place as many objects as you want between them, then you can use distribute horizontal *followed by* distribute vertical, and it is just like you had distributed along the diagonal line. Simple enough that I don't think a separate tool is warranted, if you're just trying to work with a diagonal line. Does that address what you're trying to do?

What I ended up doing was changing the numbering style (via PageNumberStyle attribute) to lowercase roman, so that I have for example A1 i, A1 ii, A1 iii for my page numbers, with E1 being my section prefix. Using this code which I'm posting because it took me a while to figure out how to do it: mySection.pageNumberStyle = PageNumberStyle.LOWER_ROMAN; It did occur to me that I could change the numbering style to Kanji or Hebrew and then it would be even more visually distinct from my section prefixes, but that would probably be confusing to the end user. Thank you for your help!

I was unclear what I was asking to do, sorry-- I want to change the page number display like so, not a text field within my page: The screenshot is from Acrobat. In the Indesign document I'm using to generate my final PDF, the closest I can get is the section prefix followed by the page number: But my actual section numbers are like A1, A2, A3 so having that extra page number tacked onto the end is super confusing to read.

Hello All, In Acrobat, you can change the numbering style for pages to None, and then set the section numbering prefix to a text string, and the end result is that you have a text string for the page label rather than a number. For example "Adam" or "Bob" rather than "1" or "2". In Indesign, the same is true except that you apparently can't set the numbering style to None, and as a result you have something like myprefix1, myprefix2, etc. for each page within the section. Is there a way to suppress the page numbers? My script assembles PDFs and it would be nice to have the page numbers for each section display as Adam, Bob, Carol rather than numbered. I don't need numbers within the section, and since my section names actually include numbers it is kind of confusing to read. Thanks for the help!

It's dumb that there isn't a simple invert checkbox. You can invert the curve, but then shadows are highlights and it's pretty confusing to work with. I'm capturing my negatives with a DSLR and it gives results at least as good as a flatbed scanner, and it's so much faster than scanning. More and more people are working this way as full-frame DSLRs have come down in price.

Thanks for this, I have to say that this is a super confusing way for the program to be designed. When would I ever want to open twenty raw files sequentially in Camera Raw instead of as a group? What does "Show "Start" Workspaces When No Documents Are Open" even mean? Why does a general Photoshop setting change the behavior of Camera Raw when there are separate Camera Raw settings? I think this is a badly designed aspect of the interface and I would like it so that if you drag a group of raw files onto Photoshop, it always opens them together in Camera Raw.

Aha! Thank you, that was the missing piece I wasn't understanding-- I had "Allow Document Pages to Shuffle" and "Allow Selected Spread to Shuffle" unchecked in the app, and it seems that new spreads that are added have the "Allow Selected Spread to Shuffle" on by default. At least I think that was what was happening, those options are a little confusing to me. For the benefit of anyone else facing this issue, the code that worked for me was: myDoc.documentPreferences.preserveLayoutWhenShuffling = true; myDoc.documentPreferences.allowPageShuffle = false; mySpread.allowPageShuffle = false;

Hello Laubender, To be clear, I'm not having trouble adding pages to the InDesign document. I'm having trouble controlling whether the pages are added to the existing spread, or if a new spread is automatically created. I would like to have all of the placed PDF pages together on a spread. I'm able to do this manually. Thanks

Hmmm, I tried changing the code to: var mySpread = myDocument.spreads.add(); myPage = myDocument.pages.add(); But the new page is added to a new spread, not the just-created mySpread. I also tried adding more pages to my master spread, but that didn't have any effect. Could you elaborate on what you mean when you say "it only adds another spread when the current one is 'full' according to its master spread." The goal here is that I have a folder full of multi-page PDFs, and I want to place them on inDesign pages, with all the pages of a placed PDF together in a spread. The PDFs have differing numbers of pages. I'm able to do this manually within InDesign, but as you can imagine it's pretty tedious with a few dozen PDFs of 1-5 pages each. P.S. the html DOM reference you put together is super helpful, thanks for that!

Hello, I'm working on a method that will add a page, add some content to that page, then repeat. Sometimes, depending on how I arrange my code, the new pages are added within the current spread, sometimes adding a new page automatically creates a new spread. How do I control this? From my testing thus far, having var mySpread = MyDocument.spreads.add(); before myPage = mySpread.pages.add(); But if I don't add a new spread before adding a page it seems to create the new page within the current spread. It seems like there should be some way to control what spread pages are added to, and whether or not adding a page automatically creates a new spread? Thanks for any help.

Can you give some more details? *edit* oh, I see, you linked to a specific post in that long thread, my browser didn't land on that the first time for some reason: I use Dave Saunders function to get path to current script file folder (allows debugging) function getScriptFolder(){ try { var activeScript = File(app.activeScript); } catch(e) { // running from ESTK ... var activeScript = File(e.fileName); } return activeScript.parent; } and reference to it getScriptFolder() + "\\mypic.png"
