Logged onto Lightroom Classic and discovered that one of my collections-labeled Instagram had changed.  Instead of the one collection with that name there were 2 collections.  One named Instagram and one named Instagram 2.  I did not do this.  The number of images in each did not concide with the number in the original collection. I found one image im my catalog that I knew was in the original collection.  I clicked on the icon in the lower right indicating it was in a collection-Instagram.  I clicked on it and the entire original collection appeared.  I deleted the 2 incorrect collections and created a new one naming it Instagram and put all of the images into it.   The next time I logged on the new one I had created was gone and those 2 other ones were there. Then I created a new collection.  Named it New and put all of the correct images  into it.  When I logged on again my New collection was there PLUS those 2 collections labeled Instagram and Instagram 2.   Now- those 2 collections both have the correct # of images and in the correct order.  So all 3 collections have the correct # of images BUT I cannot get the images in the New collection to be arranged as the other 2.  The original Instagram collection (including these two are arranged by Custom). Awhile ago I was having issues with grayed out thumbnails in Lr Classic using a Mac.  I received several well informative and well meaning replies.  I finally gave up - went to the missing photos folder (which I now can't find) and deleted all of the missing grayed out thumbnails  There were about 1700 of them. I thought that would solve my problem.   WRONG I recently opened a collection and found several grayed out thumbnails.  I frequently use this collection and have never seen these kind of thumbnails.  I called Adobe.  They said the cause of these thumbnails was the way I was deleting them from Lr.  I have always chosen Delete from Disk.  They  said that was deleting the original file but leaving the corresponding thumbnail still on Lr.  Not sure I believe them.  Any thruth to that? Another weird thing about all of this is that now I am finding the missing files.  Some are in trash.  As I have been locating these missing files I have discovered that I never put any of these images into that specific collection. ... I've finally accepted the many grayed out thumbnails in my catalog as corrupted files never to be seen again. Why are they usually some of my favorite images? How prevalent is this problem? After upgrading to Classic 13.0 I discovered that a ton of images from the last 2 years was missing.  I assumed it was because the last time I upgraded the catalog I screwed up big time and instead of upgrading to the current catalog I upgraded to an older one.  Recently spent 2 hours on phone with Adobe tec support.  He said that my problem of missing images was something that they have been experiencing with version 13.0.  He took a copy of my catalog and said he would get back to me with 72 hours.  he also showed me that the metadata had been changed on some of my images.  Meaning that going to DATE under metadata and choosing 2020 he found images that had a later date in the metadata section. yesterday I received a standard BS letter from Adobe in which nothing is mentioned about a resolution to my problem  The options they gave me were to check with the community or them.  I will be calling them tomorrow.
