Experiencing some serious UI performance issues after updated to 25.1 this morning. Reverting back to 25.0.1 seems to work fine. See video for example.

Computer specs:

Processor AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor, 3701 Mhz, 12 Core(s), 24 Logical Processor(s)

AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT

Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 64.0 GB

Disabling onboard amd gpu and rebooting makes no difference

Hi @Matthew ONeill, can you try disabling the AMD Radeon display adapter in Device Manager. Restart your PC once you do that, and see if it helps.

Thanks

The AMD one is just the cpu onboard chipset, all monitors are connected to the 4090. Drivers are 100% working fine as I do 3D GPU rendering all day as my main job. And no, AE is still slow even with the 3d software closed. Even a full gpu driver reboot doesnt fix it (shift + ctrl + win + B)

Folks who are seeing this problem: If you open Device Manager in Windows, what do you see under "Display adapters"?

2025.2 build 131

Sorry, still slow to use. Resizing the UI gives 10fps. For what its worth the playback of video is fine, but if I resize my effects list so I can see more, the ui strobes with giant black squares in the area as each frame refreshes. The larger the area being redrawn, the worse it gets.

If I resize the entire video view then I get maybe 3fps.

If I resize a window slowly, then the UI never finishes drawring until I let go of the mouse button, the UI leaves a trail of destruction with half finished UI updates. Its winning a game of old microsoft solitaire where the window starts bouncing around the screen and leaves a trail behind it.

Hi folks

Version 25.2 has shipped with numerous fixes and improvements. I'd very much like to hear if this helps any of you with the UI performance issues you were experiencing in 25.1. Thanks!

I am also getting the same issue as everyone. Using a company PC so its not as powerful as everyones here, but I am unable to work. I tried all the suggestions in this thread also, but unable to work in vers. 25.1. Takes 15min. to open the file, but preview still not loaded or just freezes on a frame. Another 15min for it to load preview, than when trying to work I get a good 1min or two of "work" before it gets laggy again. Lag/pinwheel can be 1min -10min. I even tried with a brand new file/comp. i have two mp4 vids no more than 104,000 KB. It takes 10min to save. than the same amount of time when opening again.

I also seem to get the same issue in Premiere Pro of lagging, importing files, scrolling the timeline and the preview taking long to load. (hopefully this helps pinpoint the problem)

(and yes, After Effects is the only Application open)

Total unistall of any vers. 25, and I'm back on vers 24.1, which seems to be working normally now.

@Matthew ONeill hit the nail on the head. Great description of the issue.

Exactly the same problem here, for me even the entire UI is laggy, resizing a window is 5fps compared to the fluid motion of AE 2024. No specific project, everything about the app is slow, I watch the UI draw in line by line, block by block.

Ive wiped all AE apps and reinstalled

Removed all plugins

Started in safe mode

Switched Mercury to openCL and software modes

Latest nvidia studio drivers (and 3 older versions)

No other apps running

Tried 100% windows UI scaling

Ryzen 7950X 16 core

128gb ram

Geforce 4090

2x 32" 4k screens

win 11 pro

No other app has these problems, only AE

2024.6.4 = fast

2025.0.1 = slow

2025.1.0 = slow
