After Effects 2023 Wacom Brush Tool Crashes

AE 23.3 crashes when opening my old project, specifically due to the Paint effect when I created those brushstrokes with my Wacom tablet. The project runs smoothly until I enable that effect, then instant crash. Brushstrokes created with a mouse or device other than a Wacom tablet work fine. This happens on new projects as well. Brushstrokes created with my mouse work fine. As soon as I create one with my Wacom tablet it crashes.

This bug has been confirmed by other users as well: https://creativecow.net/forums/thread/after-effects-2023-wacom-brush-tool-crashes-2/

something that worked for me to fix this problem - in panel Brushes choose option "off" for box "Size" instead of "Pen pressure"

A fix for this issue is available in the latest AE Beta version 23.5x14.

I noticed this issue when i updated to the latest version of AE 2023.
on reverting back to the 2022 version, both my wacom Ituos and Cintiq pro 16 worked perfectly with Rotobrush.

Revert back to an older stable version and thank me later. while we wait for Adobe to fix this Bug ☺️

This is a consistent, easily reproduceable bug. If I switch to the brush tool, I can set up all the parameters (brush size, opacity set to pen pressure, etc.) But the very instant I click with the brush in the layer window, After Effects crashes out with no error message or bug report dialogue.

I'm on an Apple Silicon M1 with the latest system software (Ventura 13.3.1)

After Effects is updated to the latest version (23.3.0)

EDIT: It's definitely Wacom related, this doesn't happen if I use the brush tool with a mouse. I'm using a Wacom Intuos Pro tablet with the latest driver.

Yes this is a known issue with the current Wacom drivers - please see https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-bugs/after-effects-2023-wacom-brush-tool-crashes/idi-p/13737146 for more information. We are working on a fix at this time.

Wacom keeps updating the driver so each time they fix something another thing breaks.
If you guys talk to them please let them know that we have idk .. 400 or more users who would love to have ONE BUTTON  in driver that turns off all the buttons on the wacom board 🙂

Took me 2 reinstalls of my mac to figure this one out.

But using a wacom board with the latest driver updates + newest MACOS After Effect quits.

As soon as you start using the tool AE quits.

Same with the BETA version of AE.

Using the Wacom Intuos pro. (Connected via usb c).

We are investigating a few reports with the latest Wacom drivers causing issues with AE. Will report back once we have more info.
