Bug Report AE 22.1.1: Menu Bar and all right click drop-downs not working

Menu bar and all right click dropdowns are not working in AE 2022. You click an item in the menu bar and nothing appears, you click again and it shows up for a moment but disappears when you move your mouse over to click on a drop down item.

When you click for the first time, you can click on drop down items by guessing the approximate location of where they are but they are invisible so it's a guessing game.

This makes AE completely unusable. Fixes when you delete your preferences file but it is not feasible to delete all my workspace preferences every time this bug comes up, and it always comes back.

This video from another user with the same issue shows the problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6kHnkX-3BQ&feature=youtu.be

coming here from the future Feb of 2023 and I am having this issue. Clicking AE in the launch doc does not fix it. Restarting my computer has not fixed it.

It is incredibly annoying especially since I am learning this program in class and cannot follow along with the instructor.

HOWEVER the hot keys associated with switching the items work so I can select them that way in the meantime.

Hi all,

Thank you for reporting this issue and for your continuing feedback. The team is aware of this problem and is investigating potential fixes.

The issue appears to be that After Effects is not being fully "focused" on launch due to dialogs being shown during launch or other applications being focused while After Effects is loading. *The workaround is to click the After Effects icon in the macOS Dock if the menus are not working.* This fully focuses the app and should allow menus to behave correctly. Please let us know if this doesn't fix the issue for you. Relaunching can also help ( as noted below ) but clicking the After Effects icon in the dock is much more direct.

Again, we are investigating fixes for this issue to be included in a future version of After Effects. We will update this post when a fix becomes available in the public Beta version.

Thanks again for your feedback,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team

Clicking the AE icon in the dock fixes it for me. Hope the next vr has that bug fixed. Thanks John!

It is almost September and this is still an issue for me on Mac on AE 22.5.0. This issue and the Text spacing issue as well has been ongoing for months.

Hey,

This problem has now started with me. menu options just don't open. when they do open on the second click, they just close right away. Also the un-docking menu doesn't work, I can't change my resolution options in the preview, I can't get to AE preferences. This is totally unworkable for me

This was happening for me on AE 22.5.0 and OSX. A possible cause was GifGun asking for license info on bootup. After I provided the correct license info, I had to restart AE. When I opened and didn't get a dialog prompt, my menu started working again.
