Bug Report AE 22.1.1: Menu Bar and all right click drop-downs not working

Menu bar and all right click dropdowns are not working in AE 2022. You click an item in the menu bar and nothing appears, you click again and it shows up for a moment but disappears when you move your mouse over to click on a drop down item.

When you click for the first time, you can click on drop down items by guessing the approximate location of where they are but they are invisible so it's a guessing game.

This makes AE completely unusable. Fixes when you delete your preferences file but it is not feasible to delete all my workspace preferences every time this bug comes up, and it always comes back.

This video from another user with the same issue shows the problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6kHnkX-3BQ&feature=youtu.be

How is it possible that a company of Adobe's size and resources can't fix something this simple, which has been reported for 8 months?? The subscription model has made them less than glacial, since they have no incentive to fix anything now. It is pure madness! People depend on this app to make a living. Please fix NOW!

I would add that, because of the error, you're costing people revenue...their jobs...et cetera.

Yes, clicking on the AE icon in the dock restores normal menu behaviour. I closed AE, then opened it again, and it worked properly again without needing to click on the dock icon.

Not sure if I'll have to do that again, but for now, it is a simple workaround.

I'm having same problem. AE 2022, v22.3 on 2020 Intel iMac running Monterey OS. Agree, impossible to work effectively. Who tests this software before shipping? Serious.

Hi All,

I'm using a new Macbook Pro M1 and After Effects CC 2022 and am experiencing this same deeply annoying issue - luckily I'm not on a job at the moment otherwise it would be a bigger problem.

Some plugins ONLY work on versions of AE after 2020 which was why I upgraded top the MacBook Pro.

I tried your suggestion of clicking the Libraries, Layout (!?) and for some bizarre reason this seems to fix the issue temporarily, though I find that I have to click and hold on the touchpad (it will be the same for the Magic Mouse) before the drop-down menu hangs there long enough to make a selection.

Not ideal so please fix this ASAP.

Hello John! Thanks!!! Yes, when I click the AE Icon appears the AE Home window, then I close it, the problem is solved. The beta version has the same issue.

Hi Yerko,

Thank you for reporting this issue. We have had this issue reported previously as https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911311/suggestions/44805538, so the reports will be merged.

When you are in this state, try clicking the AE icon in the Dock and see if it fixes the top-level and contextual menus. Please let us know if this fixes the issue, at least until AE is relaunched.

Thanks for reporting and for any additional information,
- John, After Effects Engineering Team
