"Please connect to the internet" (101)

When I open After Effects, I get this message:
“Please connect to the internet as soon as possible so the license can be activated (101). The license must be activated online within 2 days or it will become invalid.”

This has been happening since yesterday. I’ve already reinstalled the app, signed out and back into my Adobe account, but the message keeps appearing no matter what. I’m really worried because I have important projects to work on in the next few days, and it would be a huge problem if After Effects suddenly stopped working even though my license is valid.

I’ve followed all the troubleshooting steps mentioned in another thread, but nothing seems to fix it. I’m getting desperate. Thanks in advance.

That worked for me as well. After doing a fresh, clean install of After Effects, I reinstalled all my plugins. Interestingly, as soon as I installed and opened GifGun 2, the error appeared again. So I’m pretty sure GifGun 2 is the issue here.

i think that enabling the "allow scripts to access network" setting is causing this, since i tried @varick Rosete 's method and it worked but the popup showed right after i enabled the forementioned setting.

I was down to 1 day and I just tried resetting the Prefs in Settings/Start Up & Repair and that seemed to work.  Sucks having all my settings gone though.  No time like now to clean house, I guess.

It's so silly. None of my findings on the internet ever mention to do this...

  • Open After Effects
  • Go to Preferences
  • Select "Startup & Repair"
  • Click "Reset All Preferences to Defaults"

That just did it for me.

This method isn’t working, or I’m doing something wrong—the message is still there and I’m really worried about my projects 😞 M1 Pro, Sonoma 14.6.1
