P: Edit/Sync Photo changes the Capture Time.

I use Lightroom for culling through wedding photos, and as of yesterday's update, any time I increase or decrease the rating of an image (or apply any other kind of edit) it will add 4 hours to the capture time, therefore sending that photo to a random place later in the collection, only for me to find it again as I'm moving through. In fact, it just happened twice, as I edited a photo that had already been changed, and it added 4 more. What in the world??? This could prove to be exceptionally annoying.

Photos are syncing.

@Rikk Flohr: Photography Hi Rikk, unfortunately I can confirm that Lightroom Classic 14.1.1 update does not solve this problem. I made a small change on a synced image, and after a few minutes once again the capture time has changed two hours.

Select them all, then choose 'Metadata - Revert Capture Time to Original'.

@Kabouter The time is not automatically changed back, as mentioned in this thread. You have to change it back manually, as explained.

14.1.1 changed the behavior, but didn't fix the problem entirely for me.

  • 14.1: Endless loop of shifting images by 5 hours and re-syncing
  • 14.1.1: One time shift to what appears to be GMT on first sync (8 or 7 hours for me, depending on daylight savings)
  • "Revert to original capture time" only works if the original capture time is what I wanted. If I made a manual edit of the capture time to address a time zone issue, a wrong camera clock setting, or a scanned image, that edit will be lost in the process. Better to do a "adjust by -7 hours"

@RogerNilsson_Göteborg: "Lightroom Classic version: 14.1"

Upgrade to LR 14.1.1, which fixes the bug causing the symptoms you described for photos synced with the LR Cloud. If your photos aren't synced, then best to start a new thread, repeating your description of your symptoms.

My point was I did upgrade to 14.1.1 - and the issue is not resolved for
me. I re-enabled syncing and the files were updated as they were before -
causing another round of rework. I can certainly start a new thread, but
from my experience the bug is not resolved (again - unless the pent up
changes still cause an issue and only new changes don't trigger this
behavior).

I have noticed that after the latest release upgrade the data for "Date Time Original" is changed after an edit of the photo is done.
Even more cumbersome it is that it NOT allways happend , my estimate is that it happens 50% of the time. I have not found out that  any correlation to specific editing methods.
In the example below the only editing that have been performed is Crop, Tone curve with white point and Radial Gradient

Example:
Import a file and it have the date and time stamp for the field "Date Time Original" "24-12-15 07:49:29"
After have edited the file suddenly the same filed is now changed to "24-12-15 06:49:29"
Later I made a virtual copy of the same edited file and now "24-12-15 05:49:29" for that virtual copy
new virtual copy (copy no 2) and the timestamp now "24-12-15 04:49:29" for that virtual copy
Also I have noticed that the info in IPTC "Date Created have similar change bout in slightly different format 2024-12-15T05:49:29+01:00
All this what is visible inside Lightroom Classic
If I check the original file the time is not changed

This will cause that the date and time changes and in the library module GridView  the pictures will be sorted incorrectly

I installed 14.1.1 yesterday, turned on sync - and my images were again re-arranged (it does appear to be changing the local time to UTC).. I would argue this is not yet fixed.

@defaulte0oyxag2exrq, I think you're observing a bug in Metadata > Revert Capture Time To Original, where fractional seconds aren't restored.  There's a long-standing bug report for similar misbehavior by the command Metadata > Edit Capture Time:

and just now I observed that Revert Capture Time To Original also fails to preserve fractional seconds.

The only place you can view the fractional seconds of capture time is in the field IPTC Date Created.:

Actually maybe slight rounding error thing is just a whole other deal.  Really, the first "revert to original" I did put them back to really, really close to where they started.  I added a few new pictures from my phone camera roll, and as soon as they sync to LRC, the "revert to original" menu item is available on them.  But the change isn't even visible it's so small.  Scrolling back in the "Past Year" default smart album, I can see this option available on tons of photos.  I think the application just has a precision problem or changings the time on sync'd photos, but just by tiny increments.  So that's a whole other problem than this problem.  Close enough, as they say.
