P: Issue with Map module in OS X 10.10 (Yosemite)

On OS X 10.10 (Yosemite), the map in Lightroom's Map module is very slow to load. It takes several minutes before the first part of the map appears, and some parts don't load at all, saying instead "Sorry, we have no imagery here", even though the part in question is on Google Maps. When zooming in or out, it's the same, it takes very long to update.

Thanks for the update - even it sounds not quiet good for all who are facing the map issue.
This Bug was known since more than 4 month as we see in this discussion and it was known by adobe as apple official released 10.10 - but still adobe is official saying there are now known issues in 10.10 with the adobe products - what is actually not true.
So now - after 4 month - the statement is, that apple has changed something (what is exactly the reason why apple deploys a new OS version - if nothing changes it will not need an update) and both sides are in investigation what in detail has changed - and after that it needs to discussed who will fix that - and after that how it will befixed.
Means - after 4 month the only result is that adobe can say that apple has changed something by updating mac os from 10.9 to 10.10. With that pace I think only the next major release will fix the issue and adobe is only temporizing us with some hazy statements.

Sorry to be that rough - but ... no not really

Thanks for this very honest and frank response. I'm not happy but it's easier to accept this now it's acknowledged.

Thank you very much for this reply. This I think all of us can understand, and is exactly what we were looking for (besides the actual solution to the issue of course).

Thank you, and take care.

Ben,

Thank you (really thank you!) for the first lucid explanation of Adobe's problem assessment status and the prospects for a solution of the Map Module failure under OSX 10.10. This made my day. It is good to hear an explanation for the large data upload that occurs with a map request under low-bandwidth conditions. Best of luck sorting out a solution.

Fingers crossed at this end by a frequent Map Module user.

Hi Everyone,

This bug occurs because Apple has changed something in their network stack in 10.10 that causes problems for the Lightroom Map module (specifically, with APE, the web engine that the Map module uses), particularly in low-bandwidth conditions. The "extra" network traffic that some people have observed is (so far as we can tell) just retries resulting from failures in the network stack.

We are working with Apple to get to the bottom of exactly what changed and to see if there are any reliable workarounds, and whether there is something that needs to be fixed on the OS level. Unless Apple makes changes to the OS to allow Lightroom's web engine to work properly again, the only other option is that we replace the entire web engine that's at the heart of the Map module. We are actually working on replacing the entire web engine, in case Apple cannot provide a fix, but it's a large undertaking which cannot be accomplished quickly.

Thanks,
Ben

I concur completely with the last post. The network monitor on my Mac goes into overdrive when the Map module is run. I'm supposed to be downloading mapping information from Google, not uploading it.

Enough already!
Adobe please fix this problem; we Mac users are paying you for software that does not seem to be fit for purpose.

I accept that software will contain bugs from time to time but what concerns me about this Map module problem is that data is being uploaded from our Macs; where is it going and why? Given that it is being extracted from our computers without our permission that could be interpreted as data theft and therefore I think we are entitled to an explanation rather than evasive answers.
