P: Print Module, Page Set Up Crashes Lightroom Classic V 12.0.1

Good day. I ran across this issue yesterday, 6 Nov, and I'm not sure who (Adobe, Apple, Epson) is responsible for t/s and fix- it is frustrating. Simple to explain - fixing is another issure entirely.

I'm using a 16" 2019, Intel MacBook Pro w/32Gb Ram. I upgraded to MacOS Ventura and Lightroom Classic v12.0.1.  Going into Print Module and trying to select Page Set Up crashes Lightroom. I tried restarting the computer, resetting LR Preferences and turning off GPU Acceleration to no avail.

Do the LR Print Module, Page Set Up and Printer Settings, pull their input from the printer manufacturer drivers? Again, I'm not sure who is responsible or even how to go about troubleshooting/fixing. Any help/advise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have two projects for customers in work - I should have known better than to upgrade this soon.

@tinplater This sounds very similar than what I experienced. My failing catalog went from 11 through 12.01 to 12.1. A catalog which I migrated directly from 11 to 12.1 did not show the the issue. For me, after having done that: All other catalogs which showed to issue also worked again. Good luck to Adobe development to figure that out.

Fortunately I had backups on another hard drive of LR Catalogs and found LRC-11 and made a duplicate.  Then launched LRC with the copied version and it works again!  Only glitch I've noticed so far is that the control H shortcut to hide the program doesn't work, forcing me to "quit".  But after multiple open/quits the program continues to function normally (for the moment!  It is nice to have page configuration back!)

YIKES!  Saddly my access to the page setup button was short lived.  After closing LRC and doing some other computer chores, attempted to launch again and lightroom indicated it couldn't find my 11-12 catalog and launched with the LR12 cat and back to an instant crash in print module page setup launch!  All attempts to find any trace of the v11 catalog that just worked (briefly) were in vain.  All catalogs are V12.

It's Working!!

I have no idea what I am doing when it comes to tech, but I just simply tried to launch lrc using an old version 11 catalog.  This resulted in a resonse asking if I want to upgrade v11 to v12.  I autherized that and amazingly it launched with v11-12 catalog and I regained access to the print setup button with no crashes!!  So far all other functions are working as they should too!

Unfortunately, when LR recreates the file (Lightroom_Files-v12.lrcat-wal), the problem returns. At least, during the time after deleting the file, I can make changes to the pages.

I don't know if this has been suggested but I have been trying all the suggestions with no luck. This morning I was clearing out the various test catalogs I had created and I decided to look more closely at the other files. I opened LR and tried to change the page size and it crashed. Nothing new. Looking at the files, I noticed that one file was written just a bit later than the others, implying that it was the last file to change before the crash. I deleted that file and it seems to fix the problem on my system (fully current versions of the OS and LR).

The file I deleted was "Lightroom_Files-v12.lrcat-wal" Of course, it just went to trash so easily returned if deleting caused other issues. So far so good and I can change page sizes again.

@TheDigitalDog That's too bad, and I have no idea why the two are now 'corrupted' if that's what is going on.

Yeah. In general I am happy that all my catalogs now work fine. But it would have been nice to know why it happened in the beginning. I guess it is an issue of version 12.01 which reached into 12.1 somehow but not all the time and then gets fixed while working with another catalog. Given what I experienced up to now I think this is probably one of the harder issues to figure out because it looks so unspecific.

I would say the workaround for the user is to create a few new catalogs and migrate some catalogs from older versions. Do this long enough and your problem goes away 😉
