P: Slow UI when using Mac and Custom Display Profile

Hello,

Since upgrading to Lightroom Classic v10.0, all UI-related functionality is painfully slow. All editing functions are working correctly and quickly but scrolling through the catalogue or even scrolling a side panel is taking many long seconds to refresh. Unreasonably long.

Disabling GPU Accellaration has no affect on my Lightroom's performance.

macOS Mojave 10.14.6

Mac Pro (Late 2013)

3 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon E5

32 GB 1866 MHz DDR3

AMD FirePro D700 6 GB

Hello, same problem here... I was super happy with my new RAM et SSD, LR was super smooth ! And then arrived the update... Ouch. I feel like I am a beta tester (good to know that it's possible to downgrade though!).

My config if it can be of any help :

iMac 27'' - 2017

macOS Mojave 10.14.6

3.4 GHz Intel Core i5

40 GB 2400 MHz DDR4

Radeon Pro 570 4 GB

Photos super tiny since taken with a 15 years old camera (Canon 5D Classic)... but library super slow. I slide my finger on the mouse – nothing happens – 0.5s later it goes down.

I hope Adobe will find a solution soon (between bad OS and bad Adobe updates it's getting tricky to work...). Thanks, cheers

Yes, old - but by no means obsolete. If you can fluidly edit 4K footage on a workstation, you should be able to browse a catalog of still images even more fluidly, one might be tempted to think...

Same problem here... Very slow UI in LrC 10.0. Additionally, the whole OS [BigSur] lags extremely as long as LrC is being used. Struggling to switch between desktops, show mission control or App Exposé etc., even ends up in complete [OS]freezes from time to time. Instantly back to blazingly fast as soon as LrC is being quit.

It would be great to see some progress from Adobe concerning this issue...

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020)

AMD Radeon Pro 5700 8 GB

That cannot be done. The Ver 10.x catalog cannot be used by V 9.x.

How many images have you processed in V 10 since you started using that version?

You can try to save the metadata for each image you have processed in V10, then import all those new images not yet in V 9 and see it the LrC V 9.x catalog can read the .xmp files created by V 10. I have not tried this because all my PC and Mac installations of V 10 are working fine.

maybe someone can tell me how to read the v10 catalog in LR 9.x...

I downgraded to 10.0 and switched to sRGB. Now it does not lock up, but the colors...

@Rikk that's great advice, except it does not work, as LR 9.x does not recognize the v10 catalog.

Not to mention, any of LR versions recognize my external GPU, which is a different story 😄

Experiencing the same since v10.0. The whole UI is super slow, with lags and spinning wheel of few seconds even for moving from one picture to the next in grid view.

Neither disabling GPU acceleration nor switching to Adobe RGB as monitor profile has any effect. I can get performance back by switching to sRBG, but then colors are a mess, so that is no solution either.

The machine is admittedly old, but Lightroom 9.x was working like a charm on the very same hardware and OS.

I have the same problem. LR interface is way sticky and slow since updating to LR Classic 10. Mac Pro 5.1 Radeon RX580 Mojave BenQ 271. I tried downgrading to LR 9.4 and was successful in so doing. HOWEVER, my Ver 10 catalogs WILL NOT OPEN in 9.4!!

EDIT: Switching system display profile to srgb resolved the performance issue in VER 10
