Edit in photoshop option does not work. When selected, photoshop opens but the image will fail to load into photoshop. I have updated all aps and plugins, uninstalled/reinstalled photoshop, logged out and back in to the Adobe creative cloud.

I updated and now it's working correctly, both the opening of the photo started in Lightroom CC, and the replacement of the sky in Photoshop, because everything was wrong. Thank you Adobe!

@Rikk Flohr: Photography No updates are showing up in my Creative Cloud app. I assume they may take a while to populate?

Please update to LrD 5.1 and Photoshop 23.1, released today and let us know if you are still seeing the issue. Thanks!

Yep, I'm in exactly the same situation as you. I've read through all your notes on this topic and found them really useful to see that someone else is experiencing exactly the same issue. (Obviously unfortunate though!)

I have a late 2020 M1 Mac Book Pro (13") and it's been absolutely killing me in how much time I loose by my edits not consistently showing up back in LR. And sometimes loose them entirely.

See the my recent post in the thread link in the "Investigating" post

@Rikk Flohr: Photography A few of us on this thread have hypothesized that there is a bug with the Lightroom/Photoshop round trip that only affects newer Macs with an M1 Pro or M1 Max processor running Lightroom (cloud). At least two of us have narrowed down the issues we're having to this. For example, I do not have the problem with Lightroom Classic. Nor do I have the problem with Lightroom (cloud) on my iMac Pro. You have mentioned that you don't have the problem with Lightroom (cloud) and your M1 (not M1 Pro or M1 Max) Mac. Has this been reported? Is it being investigated? I wasn't clear what you meant when you said "investigating".

Lightroom gives an error when opening a photo in Photoshop

Greetings,

I recently received a new M1 MacBook Pro and I am running into an issue where images I open from Lightroom into Photoshop do not sync back to Lightroom if I add layers to the image.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Select a photo in Lightroom and select Edit in Photoshop.
  2. Add an adjustment layer to the image (any will do)
  3. Save and close the image in Photoshop

For me, the image appears to save successfully, but it never appears back in Lightroom.

Notes:

  • The image does sync back to Lightroom if I edit it in Photoshop, but do not add layers.
  • I have Photoshop set to not ask about tiff settings.
  • I have maximize compatibility for PSD/PSB on and set to always.
  • I have deleted and re-added the local Library after uninstalling and re-installing the app.
  • This issue does not happen with Lightroom Classic on this computer (I installed it for test purposes after this started happening).
  • I've spoken with others and they have not been able to replicate this issue on their computers, but most use LrC on non-M1 Macs or Windows machines.
  • I had no problem with this when I was working off of an M1 iPad Pro.

At this point, short of switching to Lightroom Classic, I am at a loss of what to do. Any help, suggestions, or tips would be helpful. Thank you!

I'm having almost the exact same issue. From further above in the thread:

I spent >2 hours with an Adobe support representative two days ago. Here is a list of the troubleshooting steps we did:

  • Deleted Lightroom and Photoshop preferences
  • Reinstalled Lightroom and Photoshop
  • Reinstalled Camera Raw
  • Changed permissions on the Adobe folders in /Library/Application Support and ~/Library/Application Support to "read-write" for all accounts (administrator, user, public).
  • Used Adobe Cleaner Tool to completely remove all Adobe apps and then reinstall them

I continue to have the problem, and I have no idea what to do about it.

In my case, I only have the problem with my M1 MacBook Pro (14" M1 Pro) and Lightroom (cloud). I do not have it with my M1 MacBook Pro and LrC, and I don't have it with my iMac Pro and both Lightroom (cloud) and LrC.

Thank you for the information! I tried those steps and still have the issue. It is exactly the same for me. It only happens on my M1 MacBook Pro 14". My iPad Pro doesn't have this issue, nor did my older Intel MacBook Pro. This is definitely a bug that needs to be fixed. In the mean time, I need to figure out if I can work with this, or switch back to Lightroom Classic.
