P: Portrait images shared to cloud from LrD show as distorted on other devices

All images are displayed and even downloaded in this weird wide aspect ratio. This makes any photo sharing via Lightrood Cloud unusable. Can't send photos to pick for my clients. Please fix this 🙏

HEY ADOBE YOU RECENTLY INCREASED THE PRICE ON US FOR SUBSCRIPTIONS SO HURRY UP AND FIX THIS NOW. IF YOU CAN CHARGE US MORE, MOVE FASTER TO FIX BUGS.

IT'S RIDICICLOUS THAT YOU NON-CHALANTLY HAVE A "FIX PENDING". HURRY UP.

This bug is so annoying that it's highly discourraging to edit photos in LR now.

Hallo,

Hi,

Since recently when i upload a portrait image to cloud like this :

The image looks ok in lightroom app (on macOS)

When i open the cloud app online or in the app the image preview looks like this:

When i open it in the app after a second of loading the images is shown correctly.

When i edit the cropping of the image in the cloud/app the preview becomes portraits style again:

This was not the case afew weeks ago, nothing realy changed in devices i use:

Canon R6mk2

Macbook pro m4 16"

Lightroom (non classic) 8.4

Iphone 15 pro app version 10.4.1 DC91CC/206

Trying to share an album with a client and when I create a link for them, all of the photos except the first one are stretched or squished on that link.  Tried in Firefox and Safari. Client said they were distorted for them as well. Tried to make a new gallery and the same thing happened. Files are CR3 from Canon R6 Mark II.

And actually, the Cloud gallery looks normal, but when I click on the images individually, they distort and then go back to normal.  I also tried to upload the gallery to my SmugMug site and they became distorted there as well. It seems that the cloud gallery has the bug.

This is indeed a bug in Lightroom desktop 8.4 when using the Copy to Cloud button from the Local tab. Width and height are getting swapped. Our sincere apologies; we have a fix pending. In the meantime, here are two workarounds:

1. For files already synced to the cloud, any small edit (which you can then undo, as several here have noted) will correct the width & height.

2. For future files that you want to add to the cloud, consider using the Add Photo button from the Cloud tab. then use the OS dialog to navigate to the files you want to add.

I'm having the same issue here as well. Photos import fine to Lightroom CC desktop. When copying photos to cloud, any photo in portrait orientation ends up stretched to landscape. Making an edit (e.g. rotating/flipping the photo and rotating/flipping back, or applying Auto Settings and then undoing said settings with Ctrl-Z) and waiting for sync occasionally works, but often, the photo just shows up squished and rotated instead (meaning the aspect ratio was synced to cloud wrong in the first place). Manually editing the uploaded cloud version of every photo again only has a 50-80% success rate - often nothing will fix this stretching/squishing issue. These are on Leica DNG RAWs so it's not limited to Sony like the other users in this thread.

Why are all my image thumbnails squished? This is happening to me on both Mobile and Desktop! It’s driving me nuts because everytime I open the photo I have to wait for it to balance/correct itself and even then it’ll do it again if I come back to the same photo. Switching between two photos is a nightmare.

Same is happening to me! All portrait photos taken on my A7iii are distorted when importing to Lightroom version 8.4. Please fix this!

  • Description of Issue:

I've been having the same problem for the past 4 weeks or so, I'll import images from desktop to cloud. They'll import fine, then move to upload them to cloud. Once they're uploaded to the cloud around 60% of the "Smart Previews" are resized to be 1:1 (Squashed is the best way I can put it) and they look awful and low quality. Here's an example of both in client and on a share screen.

Obviously this impacts my workflow because I use this feature to send images to clients. If they download from the webpage, the downloaded copy is also squished and low quality.

  • Lightroom Desktop Version Number (Help>System Info…)

8.4 x64 [ 20250603-0500-10f89fb ] (Jun 2 2025)

  • OS Version Number

Windows 11 Pro (2009)

  • Camera Model (sometimes necessary)

Sony ILCE-6700

  • Step-by-step Reproduction Instructions (in precise terms please)

Import images onto Cloud from PC (Problem not present).

Working with the Smart Previews, most are broken, after 2 seconds the Preview works as intended.

Share link, the same Smart Previews broken in client but permanently.

Reproduced on macOS, Windows and iPadOS.

  • The Expected Result

Neither the Smart Preview nor the images in the shared link should have the weird resizing and low quality.

  • The Actual Result

Smart Previews resized and low quality.
