P: PS Beta 25.4 freezes immediately after start

Yesterday the beta was ok, but it was updated automatically today and now after starting the PS will freeze with no CPU activity. If there were some files to be loaded - let's say I wanted to edit 3 files from Lightroom - those files are opened first and then the PS freezes. I am not sure what causes it as it doesn't respond to any input, so I cannot change any settings.

I am on Windows 10, 64GB RAM, NVIDIA 3080 12GB.

This wasn't happening in previous betas or regular versions (I can still run 25.3.1 easily).

When replying the mentioned Beta version was the last, but now there is a newer one, 25.6.0 20240211.m.2498 27d87a6 x64. So I tested that one too and also the official/production release 25.4.0 20240118.r.319 67d7f0b x64. All are showing the same described behavior - only EN-US keyboard prevents freezing.

@CShubert: Sorry for the delay, I am seeing the same behavior an all Photoshop versions since 25.4, i.e:
- current official release/production version 25.4.0
- all Betas since then, including the current 25.5.0 20240203.m.2489 2d36d5a x64 (I probably haven't tested each and every one of them every week, but most of them)

However a NEW INFO: I found out that (tested on current Beta version):

- it WILL NOT freeze if keyboard layout in Photoshop is switched to "EN - US"

- it WILL freeze if the layout is either "Czech - Czech (QWERTY)" (my default keyboard) or even "EN - International"

I did all tests by sending Photoshop that WM_INPUTLANGCHANGEREQUEST message, which is able to change the keyboard, so even with EN-US layout this message can change it to CZ and then subsequent message of the same type will freeze Photoshop (however not if in between I switch over to Photoshop, change the keyboard back to EN-US and then send the message again)

Hi all, are you seeing the same issue with Adobe Photoshop Version: 25.5.0 20240131.m.2486 6ce06b2 arm64, do you also have the same issue with Ps release version, or is this only on Ps beta?

Thanks,

Cory - Photoshop Product Manager

Update: After more testing, version 25.0 is the only version that doesn't freeze on start. Will run this version until issue is solved.

This is still an issue with 25.4. release after beta. Doing a "clean install" of Adobe CC (including Cloud Cleaner Tool) and removing all Adobe related files.
I reinstalled and tested PS 25.2 first and I still get the same issue of it freezing at the start! It's almost as if the 25.4 Beta messed something up that I can't fix.
No other Adobe apps give me this grief, and this makes PS frustatingly unusable. So pissed off.

Running Win10 with 64GB RAM and 1080 GTX card, comp specs are not the problem.

Updated to 25.4.
After launching PsCC 25.4 I attempted to create a new document, but nope ... the app froze.
Closed.
Launched again. Froze again when attempting to create a new document.
Closed.

Launched again. Attempted to open an existing .PSD file. Nope. Froze again.

Closed.
Launched again. Attempted to open JPG file. Nope. Froze.
These are steps I've had no problem with in the previous release up until earlier before installing 25.4. So in order for me to get work done I reverted to previous PsCC release 25.3.1, and all is working perfectly now, as it should.

Clearly, release 25.4 is bugged, therefore rendering PsCC 25.4 useless.

I have an application to change the keyboard (CZ -> EN) upon start of several selected apps. I am doing it for many years, but in PS 25.4 there was some change and now Photoshop responds to request for language change by simply freezing itself, which is obviously wrong.

My app is written in AutoHotKey, but the behaviour should be same in other languages too. This line freezes Photoshop:

PostMessage 0x50, 0, %en%,, A

where

Message = 0x50 = WM_INPUTLANGCHANGEREQUEST
wParam = 0
lParam = retrieved by DllCall("LoadKeyboardLayout", "Str", "00000409", "Int", 1) = 67699721

BTW I followed the Beta version and all Betas from 25.4 and above (including the latest 25.5) are affected. But I believe there were some Beta version between the Official 25.3.1 and Beta 25.4, which were ok.

[EDIT: Rephrased paragraph] The new PS official release 25.4 is immediatelly freezing for me. I feared that, because I followed the Beta releases and after update to Beta 25.4 the Photoshop always freezed immeditely after start (The same thing happens with every beta relase after that, including 25.5 Beta. But I believe there were Beta versions between 25.3.1 and 25.4 which were ok.) For the whole time the Beta versions were non-functional I could use normal release of 25.3.1 on the same machine.

My setup: Windows 10 Pro, i7 12700, 64GB RAM, NVIDIA 3080 12 GB

What exactly happens:
If no file is to be opened, PS freezes immediately. If I supply a filename via a command line, the file is opened, displayed and then it freezes. After visually freezing the CPU usage is 5 % for a few seconds (full one core usage would be about 10 % I think), then it goes to 0 % and stays that way.

What I tested (without any chage to the outcome):

- Update the drivers. I used up-to-date drivers, but today there was new release.

- Reset Photoshop settings in Nvidia Control Panel

- Move the PS settings folder in ...\Users\...\Roaming\ to elsewhere, effectivelly resetting PS settings/clearing font cache/etc. (this changes the panels, but still freezes)

- Hold Shift during the PS startup and disabling the plugins

Is there anything else I can try? Thank you

Moved to the Photoshop Beta forum, from the Photoshop forum.

@Chuck Uebele: Oh, it is no longer about Beta. Now it is about the Release version, which is freezing too.

I wanted to emphasize that it started to happen at some precise point. Perhaps I should rephrase it? And could this be moved back to Release forum?

Found it, it is a problem in some new processing of WM_INPUTLANGCHANGEREQUEST message in Photoshop. In short: I am changing the locale from my app as I did for many years. But there was some breaking change in PS 25.4 and later, which now respond to this message by freezing. I created a bug that is more appropriately named:

Still the same in the last m2475. Is there anything I can try?

I tested:

- moving (essentialy deleting) the AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop (Beta) folder ... which I guess counts also as clearing the font cache.
- holding shift before launching PS to disable plug-ins

- checking if I have the latest GPU drivers

But I can't get to Preferences to turn off the GPU or something.
