camera raw crashes PS

Photoshop cannot open TIFFs without crashing — this needs engineering attention

Every TIFF I have tested opens in Camera Raw—even with TIFF handling disabled—and Photoshop crashes when I choose Open, Done, or Cancel. This affects both regular Photoshop and Photoshop Beta on my machine.

My configuration:

  • Photoshop 27.10.0; Camera Raw 18.7, build 2743

  • MacBook Pro, Apple M1, 16 GB memory

  • macOS 15.7.5

My processor, memory, and operating system meet Adobe’s published Camera Raw requirements. Updates, reinstalls, preference resets, and the suggested TIFF-handling and GPU workarounds have not resolved this.

On September 15, an Adobe community manager acknowledged an investigation into Photoshop 27.10 unexpectedly routing TIFFs through Camera Raw despite TIFF handling being disabled. That acknowledgment concerns the TIFF-routing behavior; my additional failure is the crash when leaving Camera Raw.

Please escalate this to engineering and provide a tracking reference, an actionable workaround or verified compatible rollback, and a clear status on the fix. If you need a sample TIFF or diagnostic logs, specify exactly what to submit and where.

    Hi @lybarrondo,

Thanks for the detailed report. I understand how disruptive this is when TIFF files consistently lead to a crash.

Photoshop 27.11 is now available. Could you please update to 27.11 and test the same TIFF workflow again?

If the crash still occurs, please share:

    • One original TIFF file that consistently reproduces the crash.

    • Help > System Info > Copy and paste the complete System Info here.

    • Whether the crash occurs when choosing Open, Done, and Cancel in Camera Raw in 27.11 as well.

For the TIFF, you can upload it to Google Drive, Dropbox, WeTransfer, or a similar service and share the download link here. If the file is confidential, click my profile name > Send Message and share the link privately.

Please let us know how it goes, and we’ll take it further if the issue persists.

    Best,
    Anshul Saini
