P: 23.2 Issue - Previously saved files with adjustment layers open with strange colors

After updating to Photoshop 23.2, if you have a file previously saved (example .psb) with adjustment layers like Curves or Channel Mixer, the image opens up with strange colors in the part of image where the adjustments impacts. To fix the issue, I need to go to adjustment layer, turn it off (via eye icon) and turn it back on.

Photoshop team, could you please fix this bug so I do not have to use above hack on my previously saved images with adjustmensts when I open them.

Windows 11

(Mac OS 11.6, Pshop 23.2.2)

I just updated Photoshop to v23.2.2. It messes up the Levels adjustment layers in my existing files. Not all, but some. The layer might appear as a solid black square, or like it has a "solarize" filter. Anyhoo, keep up the good work, Adobe! Such a great feeling knowing I'm paying $52/month for the privilege of participating in an endless betaware experiment.

Hi there,

We're sorry to hear about the trouble experienced with Photoshop 23.2.2; we understand your concern.

Would you mind updating your macOS to the latest version? Since when are you seeing this issue? Did you try any troubleshooting steps? Can you share a small video of the trouble seen? Is it happening with any particular file type?

You may try to reset Photoshop preferences back to defaults and check if that helps. Here's the article for the steps: https://adobe.ly/3ceal5t Also, back up the existing Photoshop preferences if you have any custom brushes, action, and workspace: https://adobe.ly/2vNz6FG.

Regards.

The following cross-platform JavaScript can be run from the affected version of Photoshop to open settings folder containing the MachinePrefs.psp file for that version of Photoshop.

/*
Open Photoshop Settings Folder - Universal
Based on:
https://github.com/MarshySwamp/Backup-Photoshop-Settings-Universal
*/
#target photoshop
app.bringToFront();
var os = $.os.toLowerCase().indexOf('mac') >= 0 ? "mac" : "windows";
if (os === 'mac') {
    var appPath = app.path.fsName.replace(/^\/.+\//, '');
    var userSettingsDir = '~/Library/Preferences/' + appPath + ' Settings';
    var userSettingsDirOpen = Folder(userSettingsDir);
    userSettingsDirOpen.execute();
} else {
    var appPath = app.path.fsName.replace(/^.+\\/, '');
    var userSettingsDir = '~/appData/Roaming/Adobe/' + appPath + '/' + appPath + ' Settings';
    var userSettingsDirOpen = Folder(userSettingsDir);
    userSettingsDirOpen.execute();
}

After the last update I cannot get these tools to work. Levels and Curves just show multi colored pixels everywhere. When color balance is selected the whole photo goes black. When I try to use Selective color it crashes photoshop and it closes.

Same issue. Removing the machine prefs psp file seems to have resolved it.

They (Adobe) made a major mess and are now trying to do the backstroke out of issues. Loss of time = loss of $$$.

And they forced you to upgrade?

Funny, zero such issue on this end.

The path for MachinePrefs.psp, on my Mac, is:

/Users/~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop 20XX* Settings

* specific to the version(s) of Photoshop you have installed.

@Srelles Cire I was also having trouble finding the Photoshop MachinePrefs.psp file on my Mac. I did a search on Youtube and this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXNrI6YKJIM) gave me a step-by-step guide on how to file the folder. Her method of removing the "Adobe Photoshop 2022 Prefs.psp" file DID NOT work. But I moved the "MachinePrefs.psp" file to my desktop (so in case this wasn't the issue I could simply move it back into the same place) but this ended up fixing my problem!

The past few days I have been trying to access mockups I've downloaded and one of two things happen.

1. It crashes before even opening

2. The mockup turns weird neon colors (see photo)

I have tried reinstalling, restarting my computer, messing with graphics processing and native canvas and nothing has worked. This is really pushing me behind on my work. It happens on about 50% of the files I try to open, some of them open up fine.If anyone has suggestions please let me know. Thanks!
