P: Alt key shorcut, menu activating and beeping

The Alt key activates the menu. This new behaviour in CS5 is driving me nuts. When you try to zoom with the mouse wheel and Alt if you don't press ESC or Alt again you are confronted with annoying beeping. And let's say use a shortcut like Ctrl+Alt is fine but if you press it the other way Alt+Ctrl again activates the menu. This was not the case in previous version of PS, it woulb be nice if this is fixed.

@Bulavkina, What you are describing isn't a common thing that I have ever encountered when using alt with a Wacom tablet. It DOES happen when changing blending modes, where you have to press escape to remove focus on that drop down menu. The beeping can be turned off under the "advanced sound settings" by right clicking on your desktop and selecting "Personalize", then "Themes". Find the "default beep" and change the sound to "none". No more beeping!

@skylar, yes, this is the exact issue I brought up and hope that adobe will actually listen to us and do something about this. It is 100% reproducible so it's not hard to do.

This is super annoying. It happens all the time when I'm in the middle of just natural workflow, so sometimes it's hard to pinpoint exactly what happens. Just now I notice that it seems to happy when I use the alt key in combination with a pen click on a wacom tablet. When I do the same action (alt clicking a layer to make a layer mask) with a mouse, I don't notice the same glitch. It's so annoying, please help us. Once that menu is activated, you have to click esc to get out of it, but not before it beeps at you : (

THANK YOU! This has been making me insane! I never noticed it before because I worked primarily on a mac. Now I work on a PC for my job, and I have been close to losing my mind over this! You may have just single-handedly saved my sanity!

Hi Mike,

Okay, I'm seeing what you are on Windows as well.  And I agree that it doesn't look good.  It is related to the other problem, however, and I've raised the priority of that bug accordingly.  Hopefully, we'll have a solution soon.

Thanks,
David

Bump.
This is not a dead issue. Would appreciate a response from a mod.

Why was this merged onto a topic that has nothing to do with the problem I'm describing. If you read it, it's only when I 'Save As' a PNG or TGA, (unknown if other file types produce this as well) photoshop will act AS IF the Alt key was pressed. Please don't lump this issue into something that is unrelated. No wonder it hasn't gotten fixed...

In addition, this bug is 100% reproducible when saving a PNG.

I would also like to point out that pressing the Alt key upon this occurrence does not fix the issue. Please move this back to its own topic.

Is there ANY way at all to disable the keyboard shortcuts that open the dropdown application menus? for example, 'alt+s' opening the 'select' menu and 'alt+h' opening the 'help' menu

I rely a lot on keyboard shortcuts, but I have a terrible tremor in my hands so I'm constantly hitting these while trying to switch tools and opening the menus and it's a real pain. However, these aren't listen in the keyboard shortcut list so I can't just disable them regularly. Is there a way to do so?

When using Photoshop, using the Alt key to sample an area when using the clone and healing brush also invokes the top menu bar. How can this function be disabled? 75% of my Photoshop work involves using the healing brush and this issue completely inhibits the process of sampling areas to heal as the program keeps changing focus to the menu bar.

The + zoom (ctrl+spacebar+left click) works properly, but the -zoom (alt+spacebar+left click) opens a window that offers me the options of minimizing, maximizing, moving, or closing the program. Repeatedleft clicking eventually zooms out, but it is annoying and a waste of time. Is there any fix?
