P: Alt key shorcut, menu activating and beeping

The Alt key activates the menu. This new behaviour in CS5 is driving me nuts. When you try to zoom with the mouse wheel and Alt if you don't press ESC or Alt again you are confronted with annoying beeping. And let's say use a shortcut like Ctrl+Alt is fine but if you press it the other way Alt+Ctrl again activates the menu. This was not the case in previous version of PS, it woulb be nice if this is fixed.

Just as the title says, after I do a Save As (almost 100% of the time) the hotkeys stop working for the tools and are acting as if I pressed "ALT" instead, resulting in the menus being opened. This has been going on for 2 years, how has this not been fixed by now? This doesn't seem to happen when saving as a JPEG.

This is using Photoshop CC.

To reproduce:

1.) Open a new file, and make what ever kind of scribbles you want.

2.) Save As, either a PNG or a TGA.
(NOTE: I work at a game studio and these are the two file types I use the most and when I see this happen. You might need to try saving with an alpha channel as well)

3.) Then try to use the hotkeys for your tools. Notice that noting works and photoshop is acting as if you pressed the alt key.

This problem eventually allows the hotkeys to work properly again, after 5 minutes of smashing your head on the keyboard...

The bug is intermittent, but definitely occurs enough to drive me insane for 2 years and counting...

in order to use an intuos tablet. You need to hack a config file so that windows ink no longer displays info when you depress a modifier key. This does not fix the alt "feature" Which still consistently interrupts my workflow. There simply NEEDS to be an option to disable alt access to the menu

pressing alt again after it is already a problem is not a work around to the problem. this is like saying "after releasing the lever and crushing you with the piano, press the lever again to move the piano back in place". A work around would stop the piano from crushing you. A proper work around would be to not use alt+scroll wheel to zoom at all, or the alt key for anything at all basically.

I am not sure how every other program in the world is able to do this right, but every single adobe product fails to do it. Alt+dragging with the mouse? better follow it with another alt or esc, cause that is what decades of user interface design and efficiency has lead to, right? I guess I better go install a chinese program or an autohotkey script, because 3rd party solutions have become an acceptable excuse.

Also, windows 10 has made it often more difficult for developers and users to change certain settings (this may be one).  Hopefully Adobe developers & designers can overcome these challenges.  I'm rooting for you!

The issue with third party developers is that it is a huge extra layer of development and it can create a lack of cohesiveness with the interface.  I love Sublime Text and use it often.  It is usually much easier for a new program like Sublime Text to start out development with 3rd party plugins than Adobe products to integrate third party functions.  Likely the best solution for Adobe would be to ensure a streamlined customer feedback & development process that can facilitate software evolution as customers need.  This would enable both Adobe UX consistency and user workflow efficiency.

c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2015.5\Locales\en_GB\Support Files\tw10428.dat - anyway it doesn't work how I expected. The only difference is that no menu pop-up. But your focus is still in menu.

matt... some of us work with the menus hidden. Because we don't f'n use them. EVER. Alt menu short cut BS HAS to go or at least be optional. and if i had to take my eyes off what ever it was I was painting every time I hit the alt key...kill me now.

Fully agree with Jaroslav, i worked with diffrent software 2D/3D ... the alt "featuire" is realy annoying and i never experienced such issue before in another software. I am working in game dev company, we have 40+ artist.... Everybody hates that Alt beeping. Its realy frustrating that this kind of "easy" fix its not possible through all updates. thx with that idea with localization, ill definitely try it.

David: I agree and that is the reason why you should make Photoshop more friendly for 3rd party developers. Take example from Sublime Text 3 there is more plugins than you can count. Or mobile OS. Android itself is poor, but with apps is pretty powerfull. Sure you can't do perfect software for everyone in it's default settings. 🙂
