P: Cannot attach Timeline to bottom of screen

So I've been using Photoshop sine it's very first commercial release.

(Yes long time and yes I am old now LOL)

So I just installed versions 2020 & 2021 and when I have the timeline palate open but unanchor it, the Fit in Window command causes the file to resize to the complete height of my monitor so the bottom 5th of my file is blocked or covered by the Timeline Palate. However, if I anchor it and Fit in Window, it resizes the way it always has, right to the top of the timeline palate.

It use to be that you could place your timeline palate either at the bottom or the top and when you'd select Fit in Window it would resize the file to fit up to the edge of the Timeline Palate.

Can this be fixed??!?!!?

"The issue arises when the timeline palate is UNANCHORED that the Fit in Window command causes the file window to resize, filling the screen in its entirety, ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM, leaving a significant portion sitting behind the Timeline, and therefore covered by the timeline."

Sorry. This is how floating panels are designed to work - and have always worked. Floating panes "float" on top of the image. Only when attached/docked to the side or bottom of the screen do they not allow the document to go under them when the image is zoomed or fit commands are applied.

Sure. Would welcome your input. Here's a link on how to join prerelease: https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/calling-all-campers-photoshop-beginners-and-newcomers-survey-link-in-thread/td-p/12711082

As I stated in my initial post, anchoring has never been the issue or part of it. When the Timeline is anchored Fit in Window resizes the file to the top of the timeline palate as it should.

The issue arises when the timeline palate is UNANCHORED that the Fit in Window command causes the file window to resize, filling the screen in its entirety, ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM, leaving a significant portion sitting behind the Timeline, and therefore covered by the timeline.

Is it possible to get me a Beta Testing Job with you guys so I can help you guys work out kinks like these more efficiently?!?? No offense, but somehow I feel like too much is lost in translation from end users to you guys and then to the engineers. I helped QuarkXpress refine and develop QuarkXpress 7 to bring it into the 21st century and helped work out all the bugs before my Rep retired and they dropped all of her Beta Testers.

I played with this a bit more. You can achieve the behavior you want but you need to attach/dock the timeline to the bottom of the screen. With the dock there, it's hard/tricky to get it to do that. Change the position of the dock on the screen temporarily (one of the sides or another monitor) then drag the time line down to the bottom of the screen until you see a blue halo along the bottom edge. That will attach it to the bottom of the screen. You can move the macOS dock back to the bottom of the screen. Now if you zoom your document or fit on screen it will no longer go under the timeline like in your screenshot.

OK thanks, but that's not a fix/solution. Isn't this soemthing that's worth looking into?

Sorry. I thought I replied. I'm not seeing a difference in behavior in versions going back to CC 2019. If the Timeline panel is reset via workspace to be docked to the bottom of the screen, the document window won't go behind it.

So that's it? No Follow up?

So in the first image I selected Fit in Window with the Timeline Palate ANCHORED.

The second Image is Fit in Window with the Timeline Palate UNANCHORED.

As you can see Fit in Window causes the file to resize to the height of the screen from the top bar to the bottom and disregard the Timeline Palate so the bottom portion is covered or blocked by the palate. This has never happened with any previous version of Photoshop. If it helps, the latest Photoshop I was working with before yesterday was Photoshop 2018 and no version before that ever beahved this way.

Can you please post some screenshots of your entire/screen panel set up where this happening?
