Hello
looking through the crash logs I noticed that there are so many times where the error is
the following:
"nvwgf2umx_cfg 0x00000000901bd48a? Unknown - (Symbols generated from a DLL export table) [Error: 487 An attempt was made to access an invalid address.]"
always paired with:
"d3d12 0x00000000707c2d52? Unknown - (Symbols generated from a DLL export table) [Error: 487 An attempt was made to access an invalid address.]"

here is a complete trace example:

Then there were a couple more crashes of different origin (for example one opening the "Lightroom Photos" library inside the main welcome page), where there are the following modules involved (I'm not going to specify the logs exactly as I think they are cases to be explored later, but maybe there are useful information anyway):

case A
guard64,ucrtbase,dynamic-torqnative,Photoshop,KERNEL32,ntdll

case B
ucrtbase,Photoshop,USER32,KERNEL32,ntdll

If you need more information please let me know.

Thanks again for your support!

Hi Jeffrey.  As I have mentioned in previous posts, I unfortunately am unable to forward any crash reports as my computer does a full reboot on selection of the object selection tool, hence no reports are generated.  Perhaps I should be trying to get a windows log instead.  That said, it definitely seems like the same issue being described by Carlo Molinari.

@scottm28807177 It's likely you're hitting the same crash as @carlo.molinari . Unfortunately, I'm not seeing any submitted crash reports from you in our system. If you haven't done so already, please submit all Crash Reports along with your email address: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/submit-crash-reports.html That will help us confirm if you're hitting the same issue.

Thanks also.  I again tried after upgrading to 23.2 and same issue remains - crashing as soon as the object selection tool is select so switched back to 22.5.6 and all good again.  I have the same problem not relsolved by any of the 23. versions & also have Nvidia 1080 the Nvidia drivers are also the latest.  Everything else on my system is completely stable so your help will be much appreciated.

Hello Jeffrey.
Thanks for your support!!!
I just want to share some other info.

The time I managed to send the crash report (the only one to tell the truth, all the other times the program closed impractically) the windows event log had not tracked anything, while in all other cases (not only with the "object selection", also with other tools), in the windows event viewer I always found the reference to ntdll.dll with error code 0xc0000374 (corrupt heap memory). Below is an example of logs -one among many:
Name of the application that generated the error: Photoshop.exe, version: 23.2.0.277, timestamp: 0x6205873b
Name of module that generated the error: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.22000.527, timestamp: 0x931cda92
Exception code: 0xc0000374
Error offset 0x000000000010c0a9
Process ID that generated the error: 0x3724
Start time of the application that generated the error: 0x01d82609fc4f9ed9
Path of the application that generated the error: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2022\Photoshop.exe
Path to the module that generated the error: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll

Thank you!

@carlo.molinari Thanks. It's crashing in DirectML.dll. Engineering is looking into it.

I will have something selected, then I open up the Select and Mask menu to refine the selection and photoshop will crash. But it will only do it the first time after I turn on my PC for the day. After that first crash its fine until the next day when I boot up...

I have no plugins. I've deleted the font cache folder. Its still doing it.

Its hard to test fixes because after the first crash it doesnt do it again until after I restart my entire PC. So ive just been dealing with it.

Sorry to hear that @CaseFace5

A system hang or freeze requiring a computer restart usually means a low level failure such as a driver (bad video card driver, etc), failing hardware (hard disk, video card, etc.) or damaged OS installation.
It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Thank you,

yep sorry I made a typo, I have 23.2

yesterday I also added more details about the errors but someone deleted the post.

in summary: the problem is with the acceleration of the gpu. without it there are no problems.

in general, crashes also happen with other tools.

the error is always related to heap corruption when Ps invokes windows functions (ntdll).

the Nvidia drivers are also the latest available.

thanks to anyone who can give support.

An addition.
I think it is a big problem between nvidia driver and photoshop.
Removing the hw acceleration via gpu there are no problems, while activating openCL / GPU hw rendering the program crashes even selecting other tools.

Typically the error that is traced in the windows event log is the following (heap corruption):

Name of the application that generated the error: Photoshop.exe, version: 23.2.0.277, timestamp: 0x6205873b
Name of module that generated the error: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.22000.527, timestamp: 0x931cda92
Exception code: 0xc0000374
Error offset 0x000000000010c0a9
Process ID that generated the error: 0x3724
Start time of the application that generated the error: 0x01d82609fc4f9ed9
Path of the application that generated the error: C: \ Program Files \ Adobe \ Adobe Photoshop 2022 \ Photoshop.exe
Path to the module that generated the error: C: \ Windows \ SYSTEM32 \ ntdll.dll
Report ID: 54163603-50a5-41ae-829a-23f6ecb696ab
Full package name that generated the error:
Application ID for the package that generated the error:

Thank you!
