P: CS5/CS6 text deletes when highlighted for editing on MacOS 10.9

Since an update to OS 10.9 on a mid 2012 MBP 2.7 GHz i7 with 16 GB Ram, CS5 is not allowing me to update text. When I select the text tool type text and then return to the text and highlight it to change font or style, the text disappears, and is actually deleted. This happens when I select any text in any of my psd files, or when I create new files.

Ahhhh thank you so much! This was so frustrating! I had to hit undo every time I edited type as it would then reappear.. This is so helpful 😄

Hi Wendy,

A couple of things.

First, if you have Dictation on, turn it off.  There's a bug in it which triggers problems similar to this.

Second, there was a problem in one of the dot-releases of CS6 that caused the pointer to text layers to become corrupted.  The problem was fixed and the latest version of CS6 has the patch.  You should make sure you are running the very latest version.  The problem with the bug was that once a file had the problem, that particular file and any file with assets from it (copied layers, etc) would ALSO have the problem.

So, try downloading the very latest patch for CS6 and create a NEW document with Dictation turned off.  You should find the problem is gone.

Thanks,
David

Yep. Same thing here. Seem more random now, though.

I had the same problem for a long time and i was pissed off... i was just clicking very fast to other layers before the bug work on but that was very annoying too. Thank you guys for the HELP! 😄

Yeah, Mavericks didn't seem to have a beta period. They just unleashed it. Such a cool name for such a poor OS. They will eventually get right.

Go to System Preferences ---> Dictation and Speech -----> select OFF radio button . Restart the Photoshop.

As others have posted previously, in iMac Mavericks OS X 10.9.3 and Photoshop CC 14.2.1, I fixed this stupid problem by turning off Dictation in System Preferences.

Has anyone written the book Apple Mavericks Annoyances? I'm about ready to go back to Windows given all the problems I've had with Mavericks...
