P: Drop shadow changes distance from the object depending on the zoom level

The drop shadow changes distance from the object depending on the zoom level. Also, sometimes I get green or red boxes over the image that look like display problems, but then save out when I save a flattened version.

Did you restart Photoshop after changing the preference for the changes to take?

I also just noticed a similar variant. I'm getting a cyan blue outline and banding with the drop shadow which is black, as if I've added a stroke option. Also, the mask used for the effect seems to be slightly different then the layer mask I've created--artifacts. I've tried with Legacy Compositing checked and unchecked and there does not seem to be a difference.

Photoshop CC 20.0.1 has severe problems with shadows:

  1. Shadow looks different in different zoom levels: see "psdzoom.png": left: 100% / right: 50%
  2. Shadows are fundamentally changed when resizing the image (psdprob.png")

I have set Photoshop to Lo resolution in the macOS Infobox about it, because I'm a webdesigner - Maybe that's the problem. Photoshop/Adobe does - after years! of retina - still not offer a better solution than this crippled one.

Conclusion: I cannot rely on Photoshop regarding the display of my work. I consider this a severe bug that needs an urgent fix.

I have a similar bug, but it's affected by enabling/disabling a layer style on a completely separate and unrelated layer. https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2571205

There's the same layer with shadow effect on the two screenshots. There's a minimal zoom on the first screenshot, and the large zoom on the second one. I think it's the bug.

I'm having the same exact issue. I just noticed it this morning when zooming out on an image with drop shadows. Checking the "Legacy Compositing" and restarting Photoshop corrected the problem also.

Thanks that's sorted it! It seems that this is being looked into at your end, so I will consider this issue dealt with.

All the best,

I have some problem alike this. When i open a photo via lightroom, I cant duplicate the layers in photoshop cc, not using ctrl - j or the menus (all is greyed out).

If i open the image via camera raw in PS , all is ok.

Windows (10 home)  and photoshop is both installed yesterday...

David, Sorry you're hitting this. Let us know if the same thing you're seeing. If so, we're looking into the issue. The workaround would be to to check "Legacy Compositing" under Preferences > Performance. Thanks
