P: Error (fatal requiring a force quit) when trying to split a video clip

I have an outstanding case with Adobe technical support (very poor support).I append the case history to this summary:
However to précis the problem. Since subscribing to PS CC I have been unable to split a video clip (with the scissors tool), when I try to do this I get a fatal error (ie PS freezes) by repeatedly clicking the OK in the error dialog the clip eventually splits but the error remains and I have to force quit out of PS.
At Adobe's suggestion I have removed the preferences file (for PSCC), removed all previous versions of PS also used Adobes clean up tool to assist this, followed by uninstalling CC and reinstalling. A quirk is that on reinstall (this reverts to the early version of PS CC) the error goes away but when updating PS CC (being alerted to updates) the error returns.

Hi Jeffrey
Yes, running as a new admin did help.
Now I can cut and edit and export. But it is a quite annoying workaround, logging in and out.
One more thing is that CC creates a monster .mov file of an 18 sec. clip. 1.04Gb!
It then converts to a 55 mb file before QT plays it.
Old iMovie turns the same clip into a 24 mb .mov.

I have just tried the new account malarky and no change. What is interesting is that when I changed back to my original administrator and launched PS CC a video clip did split I then tried a second split on the clip and the error returned. I relaunched PS CC after force quitting and the error appeared on trying to split a clip. I think I have tried all you have suggested

Hmm. Jared's at 14.1.2.

So you reinstalled, it worked at 14.0, updated to 14.1.2 and now is failing again? Very strange.

I am dubious about the effects of the uninstall/reinstall since I did this and it worked but when I updated it stopped working. Perhaps the other contributors are not on the latest vera i.e. 14.1.2

Unfortunately, I've found that repair permissions isn't 100% bulletproof in my experience. Glad to hear that reinstall repaired the damage for you.

Just check the PS CC about and check that you are working on the latest v i.e. 14.1.2

I _think_ I did a permissions repair via Disk Utility around the time I did the OS upgrade, just to make sure things were good across my system. I'm curious if doing that again could have helped, or if perhaps doing that was part of the problem? It's all working now after the reinstall so maybe I'll never know (hopefully) 🙂

Odd, for me I showed no new update except for other CC apps after I reinstalled Photoshop, so I _think_ I am updated to the latest but it's still working ever since uninstalling and reinstalling.
